A pregnancy following a recent adoption

OK- deep breath
We have recently adopted a 12 month old child. We are delighted with him and he is doing really well. Obviously I was so happy to have such a joy in our lives that, after years and years of infertility I got pregnant spontaneously the month he arrived with us. . I am still adjusting to the shock and trying to focus(through the fuzz of early pregnancy exhaustion) on our new delightful toddler. I have told very few people that I am pregnant. Fellow adopters will, I think, understand that I had reached a state of mind where adoption was THE way to have a child and had stopped feeling the constant pain of a lack of biological child. So I am finding the adjustment quite a challenge along with the decisions on ante-natal diagnosis etc.
For me there are so many issues but I would love to know if there is anyone else out there who has had a birth child soon after adopting a young child.
Thanks

My aunt did this. In fact, she had twins!

Just read this thread from the start - wow - congratulations on both your lovely boys!

There are 20 months between my children and its a lovely gap to have - hard work to start with but mine are now 3 and 4 and its lovely.

What a lovely thread

How about the 3rd biological child of a woman who was told she would never have children and so adopted my 2 older brothers

I think it's a lovely outcome. My big brothers where there first and sooooooo wanted and hoped for. They have never been anything other than my big brothers

Congratulations on your 2 lovely boys

Hi I am in the same boat

Trainham · 15/09/2022 16:49

Yes me. A sibling of my other 2 was placed at 17months and month later realised I was pregnant. I was scared I would lose her (siblings already had adoption order ). I told my SW who I trusted and she dealt with child SW and it was not an issue.
Yes it was hard fitting in everyone's needs but managed . I was glad they were all close in age days out etc meant everyone catered for. Rather than different ones.
BC very empathic and caring due to needs of siblings.congratulations and enjoy

Congratulations, all the best!

To those commenting that conceiving after adoption is common:

After I told a few of my friends that we were adopting, I got comments such as: "And afterwards, you will have your own!". That is an adoption myth and highly offensive. Adopted children are not second best and they are not a fertility treatment.

It is actually rare to have a biological child after adoption (but it does happen):
