Kate Moss: crap mother? but the media choose to ignore it.....

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 15:08

OK, so Kate moss gets scrutinized for her hair, her weight, her boyfriends, her Top Shop collection, her friendship with that frizzy haired hairdresser blokey, her friendship with Sadie Frost etc etc......

But the one thing no-one ever mentions is that she appears to live the life of a single woman, not a mother to a 7 year old....it's Glasto to gigging with Jamie Hince to sharing joints with Lily Allen to holidays in Ibiza.

Yes, yes, I know, on Fathers' Day she went to visit her ex with her little girl in tow but even then, it was Sadie Frost holding Lila's hand, not Kate.

Is there a media ban or something on discussing how little time she spends with her child?

I just don't get it because Katie Holmes gets slated all the time because her kid is wearing high heels / still drinking milk from a bottle / wearing make-up / whatever......ditto Posh, Katie Price....but at least these mums seem to love and adore their kids and like spending time with them. But they get loads of grief.

Kate: nothing. Nobody talks about her motherly responsibilities.
WHY?

Perhaps she's not a crap mother? How can you decide how good a mother she may be on the basis of how often she is photographed with her daughter?

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 15:16

But she is photographed wherever she goes...and her daughter is almost never with her. Yes, spending lots of time with your DC does not automatically make you a good mother, but you have to be there sometimes, surely?

Between Glasto / yachts / gigs / etc, when does she get to even see her?

sorry for the aside but does Suri still take a bottle? I have never seen any articles on that.....

As for KM we really don't have a clue what goes on do we? We just get a snapshot of their lives.

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 15:20

grapeandlemon
Presumably not any more, but when she was still taking one at 4, it was duly disected by the press:

ExitPursuedByABear · 28/06/2010 15:20

There is probably no comment because people forget she is a mother and she never has Lila with her.

Merrylegs · 28/06/2010 15:21

She is a bit rubbish, but LOL at the comment underneath the article: 'Eddie and Patsy'.
Too funny.

Divatheshopaholic · 28/06/2010 15:22

Did not know she had dd?

DramaInPyjamas · 28/06/2010 15:25

What potplant said.

How do you know she is a crap mother? Nobody knows what goes on when the paparazzi go home.

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 15:29

Ok, I don't know if she is a crap mother or not. Nor do I know if Katie Holmes / Victoria Beckham / Jools Oliver are good mums. But we know alot about them as mothers because the meedja don't leave them alone. jools only has to get out a picnic blanket on Primrose Hill for the Daily Mail to be all over her.

But nobody ever mentions Kate Moss to the point where some people (Diva!) don't even know she's a mum. And that is NOT becauese she keeps a low profile......
Why does the meddja go so easy on her as a mum when they dissect everything else she does, is my real point?

OP posts:
grapeandlemon · 28/06/2010 15:31

aww Suri is so adorable and I think Katie Holmes does a great job with her who cares about a bottle?

I do think you have a point about KM, but she was never going to be a natural earth Mum was she? - she just carried on with her life.

Just because Claudia Schiffer and Elle McP are photographed dropping their little ones off on the Kensington school run it doesn't mean they are great Mums either.

potplant · 28/06/2010 15:32

"Yes, spending lots of time with your DC does not automatically make you a good mother, but you have to be there sometimes, surely?"

I'm not saying that she is a good mother btw, I've no idea one way or the other I'm just saying that you can't judge her based on the amount of times the Daily Mail print pics of them out together. Perhaps she doesn't want her DD to be photographed so goes out of her way to make sure that doesn't happen.

DuelingFanjo · 28/06/2010 15:42

Going to Glastonbury with or without your child doesn't make you a bad mum.

slug · 28/06/2010 15:43

Perhaps while she is out partying at Glasto/on yauchts etc Lila is with her father?

TheBolter · 28/06/2010 15:50

I imagine that she probably does see a lot less of her dd than us ordinary mortals with 9-5 jobs / no jobs do. I guess the times she spends with her dd she chooses not to parade her in public a la Katie Price.

The media does give her a hard time, I've oft heard it cited that she's a crap mother by the meeja.

TheBolter · 28/06/2010 15:52

I would raise my hand and say quite emphatically that I would not wish to take my child to Glasto and people that do are clearly going for a very different experience to mine, which would probably be more along the lines of Kate Moss's. (Minus the paparazzi, back stage passes and air kisses with the famous and beautiful of course).

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 16:03

Dueling
Couldn't agree with you more. But, as I have said, she needs to spend some time with the little one and since almost every day we are^privy to what she does and none of it entails her little girl, then that's why I ask the question

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 28/06/2010 16:07

Oh that Jefferson Hack, you never get to see him out and about with his daughter do you. He must be a shit dad, eh?

Bessie123 · 28/06/2010 16:11

Duellingfanjo that was a stupid comment. The OP said quite clearly that KM seems to have almost every minute of her life photographed and she is usually without her child. I think it's a valid point.

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/06/2010 16:12

lol at the ability of the OP to deduce the efficacy of someone's mothering skills based on snippets and photos in the tabloid press.

Perhaos she is a fantastic mum. perhaps she is onw of those over zealous celebs who goes ape if teh press print a picture of her child. Perhaps that is why you never see a picture of her.

Perhaps she shares custody of teh child with the father, so 50% of time she would not have her anyway. So she spends time away from her child - how on earth can you judge anyone for doing that?

You have no idea if she is a good mother or not.

DuelingFanjo · 28/06/2010 16:13

forgive me for I am stoopid.

lottiejenkins · 28/06/2010 16:15

I personally think the OP has issues with KM and has decided to vent on here. I have more important things to worry about than KM!

Magalyxyz · 28/06/2010 16:17

It's a good question. She may be a reasonably good mother, but I have never read a single criticism of her parenting skills and it would be easy for the papers to throw together a 'case' for her being a bad mtoher.... hmmmm

Could it be out of respect for the child's journo father that they don't demonise her?

muggglewump · 28/06/2010 16:20

What a weird post.

I admit to being fond of sleb twaddle, in fact I often read the DM showbiz page (I know, I know, kill me now), and actually, she's not featured that often.

For all we know she's a brilliant Mum.

Yes, every time she goes out she's photographed, but from what I read, that would be no more than weekly, often less.

What's wrong with one night a week out?

(I'm not a particular fan of KM, I just haven't seen anything recently to suggest that she's a bad mother)

Greythorne · 28/06/2010 16:22

Dueling: when was the last time you saw any picture of Jefferson Hack? With or without child? He is never in the press, so he could be with her 100% of the time and we wouldn't know. The point is (again) that KM is photographed every day and she is never with her child.

OP posts:
muggglewump · 28/06/2010 16:22

Though from other things I've read (not about KM, but other slebs) money talks, and if you can pay them off, and/or court the press in other ways, you can do as you please and have it kept out of the tabloids.

George Clooney anyone?
