regular friend culls?

How awful. I think that sums it up.

You have to Pointydog.

I had friend request from loads of old school "friends" and I clicked yes, so I could see their pictures to jog my memory and have a good old nose and a little judge, then I culled them!

I'll never see them again in real life so there's no problem.

I still maintain it's a good way to stay in touch with those you want to.

And play at farms.

I look on it like going to the pub. I wander in, see who's about and just chat and talk about my day and have a laugh.

I think it's great for that day to day type communication with friends who live too far away to see very often.

All these comments about facebook are actually about the people who use facebook and not facebook itself. 15 years ago MN would have been filled with people saying, "I hate mobile phones and I'm never going to get one. Why should I be available whenever people want me?! And I hate those people who walk down the phone shouting into their mobiles like they're so important."

There's nothing wrong with facebook - it's a useful tool for keeping in touch with people, entertaining yourself, sharing things etc. I will never understand why using it has to be seen as being bad. Someone else could argue that using MN is pathetic - why not just go out and MEET other mothers.

Like any other tool, some people use it badly. Personally, I'm careful about who I agree to be friends with and am absolutely ruthless about not allowing people into my newsfeed if they are a) boring b) obsessively updating etc. This is particularly true for random extended- family members who you can't delete but would love to!
