Can I have a serious discussion about Katie Holmes?

I am not a terribly celeb obsessed person but I do have a few celebrities whom I am very intrigued by and Katie Holmes is certainly high on that list.

I am the same age as her and sort of remember the very early Dawson's Creek days, and I loved the movie GO as it was (at the time thankfully no longer) very like my life and I really enjoyed watching her. I've always found her fascinating without being entirely sure why.

When the whole Tom Cruise thing happened several years ago I distinctly remember re-reading the headlines because I just could not fathom a connection between the two of them. It was so bizarre!

I am not a huge T.C. fan but I also think the whole "Tom has brainwashed her" thing is probably unlikely???? [naive emoticon?] I mean, she certainly seemed over the moon in love in their early days and has always vehemently defended him.

But I must admit I am puzzled. Her face is such a mystery and she usually looks quite sad. Of course I expect she is totally hassled by the paps, press and non stop attention and I do not expect her to go around happy all the time any more than I do. But it is something more I think in her face than that. I remember once about a year ago I actually nearly teared up because I saw pics of her shielding a crying Suri from this crush and she looked like she just wanted to either kill or cry. I felt so angry on her behalf.

Also all the criticism of her carrying Suri all the time... wtf? Suri would be in danger if she was left to walk on her own at a young age because of all the people around them who are either selfish or out to harm directly. I know they have had death threats. As far as I can see Katie is an extremely devoted mother, her and Suri are pretty inseparable.

I have a lot more thoughts about it (embarrassingly so ) but I need to post this real quick before I eat dinner.

What do you all think/know about it? I know we cant really know but I am really curious. I wish I could be her friend.

slyandgobbo Kirsten worries me too. She seems ever so slightly feral in the eyes. I am not entirely sure she would be terribly friendly but I'm not hostile towards her.

Is it a bad thing that my DS (3 in 2 weeks) asks to hear the Donnie Darko soundtrack? I hasten to add he has never seen the film!!! But we love it and listen to it a lot and he adores it.

I thin Kirsten would be a bit whacko and make me drink green tea. She wouldn't be into watching Phil and Fern (Gawd Bless her). Sandra would and she'd brew up. Britney would want to watch Loose Women though and I'd have to slap her again.

Kirsten wouldn't make you drink green tea. She'd get you off your nut on a wide variety of recreationals.

Anyfucker - I am with you. Also in Point Break. Only those films though. I have the same thing with Matt Damon. ONLY in the Bourne films.

cheesesarnie · 22/07/2009 22:15

DarrellRivers are you tracie martin from the wag books????

DarrellRivers · 22/07/2009 22:21

WTF is Tracie Martin?
Does she write such similar advice in her WAG books?

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 22:22

agreed Debi - but then the next day maybe something to clear the skin from the nights excess.

Ugh I really dont get Matt Damon. Never have but the last few years he has aged so badly. As have I but I am not a sex symbol so I am just living up to expectations!

I know, it's weird. I don't like Matt Damon. Jason Bourne, oh yes I do. yes please.

Y

cheesesarnie · 22/07/2009 22:29

shes a fictional character.shes wants to be best friends with vb.

slyandgobbo · 22/07/2009 22:34

I like Kirsten's feral thing - she's like a wild fox who would probably be mean to you a bit. I've had actual friends a bit like her. Sandra is maybe just too damn adequate to be friends with whereas Kirsten obviously has insecurities.
hmmmm
I would also quite like to be friends with Amy Adams but she is maybe too young and peppy.

DarrellRivers · 22/07/2009 22:35

Paskia-Rose lol
No not me, VB needs a non-WAG friend

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 22:36

agreed on Kirsten's feral appeal but she would likely bite.

OP. I find Katie Holmes really fascinating too and find the KH/TC relationship worrying. I'm really intrigued by how much of these types of sleb relationships are cover and how much are real. When you see her it does make you feel that something very STRANGE must be going on with TC. His weirdy religion seems deeply unpleasant too, and the gay rumours are pretty overwhelming.

But then - in some films eg tropic thunder he seems so game and seems to have a sense of humour. And the other thing is - what about Penelope Cruz? She really seems like an intelligent and grown-up lady and never had that little girl/controlled/haunted look. so why would she have been with him if he was just looking for a cover-up wifey?

Nicole also seems somewhat freaky these days and is her relationship for real or was it just to get a baby?

I don't want to know these people and I don't feel close to them but I do think "oooh what IS going on there?" So I kind of get where you're coming from.

muffle · 22/07/2009 22:43

I think the kirsten weird werewolf effect is because she has those dead, doped-up-looking eyes and sticking-out canine teeth. Good on her for not having it all veneered, tweaked and hoiked into hollywood perfection really...

arrrggh!

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 22:46

I rather like her teeth though they look worse in that picture. I think she looks interesting like I want to stare at her because I cant quite process her features. She is very pretty.

I am sure I read somewhere Penelope Cruz left Tom because he was not allowing her to go in public without him. I mean to celeb functions. A friend of hers said that at the time. But again, it is so easy to pick at "big" as in hype people you never know how much is bullshit.

OP posts:
slyandgobbo · 22/07/2009 22:46

I don't think Penelope Cruz and i would eb big mates. I can imagine we would have to be tiresomely nice to each other all the time and she would look at me inquisitively if I made a joke. Or maybe say "Oh, sly, jou are so funny, haha. " It would be exhausting

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 22:48

LOL

OP posts:
DebiNewberry · 22/07/2009 22:49

I would want to grill her about Javier Bardem, I wouldn't be able to contain myself. It would be creepy.

nomorecake · 22/07/2009 23:43

i worked with someone who met Kirsten and said she was really friendly, down to earth, interesting and approachable. (that was about 6 years ago now.)

i was really surprised because i didnt think she came across like that. and the fact dh secretly (yeah right!) loves her, makes me dislike her irrationally.

back to Jake for a sec. i always think of him as DonnieDarko, so seeing pictures of him bulked up and muscley just confuses my brain.

plumblossom · 23/07/2009 08:25

Allegedly she signed a contract, five years and one kid was the deal. Suri also looks very like Will Mapother.

Sunshinemummy · 23/07/2009 11:13

Friend saw Tom, Katie and Suri out for dinner in NY a few months ago and said they seemed really close and happy.

knotswapper · 23/07/2009 11:27

Don't feel sorry for Nicole. Allegedly, Tom dumped her because she was pg with somebody else's baby.

Also, I know somebody who worked for her, and allegedly she is a complete b*tch.

newlysingle · 23/07/2009 11:31

Tom Cruise is gay

So is John Travolta

Flamesparrow · 23/07/2009 11:45

I still like the alien baby theory.

Sunshinemummy · 23/07/2009 13:44

Oh yes I also heard Nicole was a complete bitch from someone who knew her around the time she set her cap for Tom.
