Can I have a serious discussion about Katie Holmes?

I am not a terribly celeb obsessed person but I do have a few celebrities whom I am very intrigued by and Katie Holmes is certainly high on that list.

I am the same age as her and sort of remember the very early Dawson's Creek days, and I loved the movie GO as it was (at the time thankfully no longer) very like my life and I really enjoyed watching her. I've always found her fascinating without being entirely sure why.

When the whole Tom Cruise thing happened several years ago I distinctly remember re-reading the headlines because I just could not fathom a connection between the two of them. It was so bizarre!

I am not a huge T.C. fan but I also think the whole "Tom has brainwashed her" thing is probably unlikely???? [naive emoticon?] I mean, she certainly seemed over the moon in love in their early days and has always vehemently defended him.

But I must admit I am puzzled. Her face is such a mystery and she usually looks quite sad. Of course I expect she is totally hassled by the paps, press and non stop attention and I do not expect her to go around happy all the time any more than I do. But it is something more I think in her face than that. I remember once about a year ago I actually nearly teared up because I saw pics of her shielding a crying Suri from this crush and she looked like she just wanted to either kill or cry. I felt so angry on her behalf.

Also all the criticism of her carrying Suri all the time... wtf? Suri would be in danger if she was left to walk on her own at a young age because of all the people around them who are either selfish or out to harm directly. I know they have had death threats. As far as I can see Katie is an extremely devoted mother, her and Suri are pretty inseparable.

I have a lot more thoughts about it (embarrassingly so ) but I need to post this real quick before I eat dinner.

What do you all think/know about it? I know we cant really know but I am really curious. I wish I could be her friend.

I wish my life could be so simple I could worry about Katie Holmes!

Tom is weird though.

TBH, I worry more a bout Nicole.

bamboostalks · 22/07/2009 20:43

I am crying with laughter at this thread and I never find mumsnet that funny. Keep going!!

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 20:47

god what a load of bitchy responses

lynette my life is not simple what with my SN child and fairly difficult time at the moment. Because I spent 5 fucking mins thinking of something totally trivial I hardly think that constitutes your inside knowledge on my life.

I realise I may have sounded a loon but when I said I nearly teared up when I saw those pics a year ago it was because of the expressions on her and Suri's faces - they looked so miserable and I just thought I would hate that if it were me and DS. I am not wearing black over it every day. and yes I do get out a fair amount thank you. If we are allowed to discuss slebs and their humourous side I dont see why we cant talk about them when clearly most of us are intrigued.

Go on now tear me to pieces for having a sense of humour failure. I bow to your uber coolness.

why would you hide this thread? no mention of moldies etc...

god have I slipped into the twilight zone?

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 22/07/2009 20:51

I consider myself told!

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 20:52

I assure you if it were not a virtual world my book would be flying in your direction.

OP posts:
cornsillk · 22/07/2009 20:52

No - I'm hiding!

bamboostalks · 22/07/2009 20:52

Not laughing now .

ahundredtimes · 22/07/2009 20:53

I think she's hiding because you are being scary

Ceebee74 · 22/07/2009 20:53

Am most upset now as I actually contributed a sensible response to the OP and it has been ignored

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 20:54

from what? the wrath of HIDTL? It isnt all that scary is it (but then of course you dont know how heavy the book I am reading is - could be another weighty to cope with a simple life)

you probably arent receiving my sarcasm through the words and think I am just irate but it is just how I type when mildly annoyed.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 22/07/2009 20:54

So was mine. What did you say Ceebee?

YOu might want to watch that whole book throwing thing in your friendship with Katie though herein. Might not help with her fear and sadness etc

That is a JOKE

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2009 20:55

But really, let's discuss Nicole..she was so badly dumped bu Tom...but I thought she was splended in the Chanel ad.....and I'm so please she could have carry her baby to term....and I used to think Tom was the buisnes...but now I just think he's a knob.....

cornsillk · 22/07/2009 20:55

It was a bit like my mum catching me being naughty.

cornsillk · 22/07/2009 20:56

I like Tom in some films though.

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2009 20:56

In Rain Man he was genius.

hereidrawtheline · 22/07/2009 20:57

right maybe I will bugger off for a while I cant read you lot tonight. read as in understand intuitively etc not decipher letters.

OP posts:
cornsillk · 22/07/2009 20:58

Was he in Team America- World Police as well?

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2009 20:58

HIDTL - it only took you 47 mins to eat your tea...do you have indegestion?

cornsillk · 22/07/2009 20:59

OP come back and share some Tom talk.

thighsmadeofcheddar · 22/07/2009 20:59

I also thought Tom was great in Magnolia

AnyFucker · 22/07/2009 21:00

is that a scientology tome you are throwing reading HIDTL ??

don't take offence, your OP just invited a silly comment or two, nobody meant to upset you, I'm sure

ahundredtimes · 22/07/2009 21:00

I think OP is right about Katie though. Tom is a mystery to me.

nomorecake · 22/07/2009 21:00

i saw her shopping in london a few years before she met and married TC.

she had the same look on her face, quite serious and unapproachable.
(but wearing jeans and a t-shirt.)

thats probably the way she hides her expression when she doesnt want to be recognised or wants the paps to go away or maybe when she's nervous.
