My dad has cancer.

He is currently undergoing a trial of a new chemotherapy drug which might work.

He really doesn't need to see what may very well be his own future on the front pages of the newspapers when he manages to make it to the shops.

I am sure my dad is not alone in this.

For that reason alone, it is too far.

mayorquimby · 04/03/2009 12:52

"How much is her choice and how much is engineered by Max Clifford?"

based on her past conduct i would say 99% of it is her choice. while HIRING (i put it in caps as people always talk about max cliffords involvment in such affairs is entirely his decision and somehow against the wishes of the people involved) was 100% her decision.
as soon as she was diagnosed she actively seeked his involvment with the express desire that he goes on a pr offensive. i don't see why people think her mind set has changed at all due to the worsening of her illness, according to some reports she still has him setting up interviews.

notnowbernard · 04/03/2009 12:57

Squonk

I had that very conversation with mate last night... one of the main reasons for me that this whole episode has gone way too far

I wish your Dad the very best

MadreInglese · 04/03/2009 12:59

I've never been a Jade fan and agree the media have treated her illness distastefully, but FFS the poor woman is about to DIE, who gives a rats arse what she does? She is making money for her sons and it publicises the importance of smear tests.

You don't have to buy the mags or watch the programmes.

MadreInglese · 04/03/2009 13:00

Sorry about your dad Squonk , fingers crossed for his treatment.

SoupDragon · 04/03/2009 13:04

You think it's "gone too far" but are happy to post a link to the article/photos?

Rhubarb · 04/03/2009 13:07

Sorry, but I was much more upset about the BabyP pictures and the Palestine pictures of injured and screaming children.

She's taken a decision to allow the Press to follow her every move.
I've taken the decision not to buy those newspapers.

Tortington · 04/03/2009 13:14

i agree with rhubarb, which contrary to popular opinion is quite rare.

don't feed the frenzy, don;t click on the link, don;t buy the papers.

i never have bought a tabloid in my life, its utter shit

Monkeytrousers1 · 04/03/2009 13:15

I think she is being incredibly dignified.

I had a parent that died when I was a child and there are a never ending list of questions that haunt you as you grow up, things you have to let go of as you will never know. Jade's kids will not have that problem. Some people will disagree but non of this is proven, so all worries about her kids ring false to me. How can you know? You can't. You can express an opinion, but there is no moral high ground to fight over here. We - and they - are in unknown territory.

It would be hilarious though if she actually didn't have cancer and it was all a publicity stunt. Could you imagine?

lydle3 · 04/03/2009 20:04

My daughter has lived with cancer, all her young life (9), and has had to have her hair shaved off three times, due to it falling out, she always wants to cover up her head. She would wear a wig if possible, it is the thing that upsets her the most. She tries hard to compensate in other ways - asking me to paint her nails, wearing lip gloss, she is terminally ill. Should I tell her that at this point it isnt worth it ????????

Why shouldnt Jade do whatever she wants with her eyebrows. Isnt it the same as women wearing lipstick to the bitter end.

There is NO dignity for people with cancer, if any one of you knew the first thing about it you wouldnt judge. Maybe, she is trying to look a bit feminine.

Prehaps i should mention to some of the adults, i see at the hospital, who are walking skeletons, they shouldnt have their nails painted ?????

Put yourselves in her shoes, imagine looking at your reflection at 27, and seeing back a cancer ravaged face??

Have any of you ever been to a cancer ward ??

The bottom line is she is a young woman, with children, who is dying.

She is a mum, who soon, will never see her children again, she is trying to the best by them.

Yes she has sold her soul to the papers for money, that is undeniable, BUT do you think she wants then snapping her going from hospital to hospital in her nightie, sucking on gas for pain relief ??

I just cant believe how heartless people can be, maybe a trip to The Royal Marsden, to meet some of their patients would do some of you the world of good.

Ronaldinhio · 04/03/2009 21:08

sorry not hilarious, dreadful mt

what an odd thing to say!

2shoes · 04/03/2009 21:13

sounds like she is happy to have her photo taken

my freind who died a few years ago(breast cancer) lost all her hair, she then went and had acrlic nails put on, sha said it made her feel better.
good on her

Haribosmummy · 04/03/2009 21:14

Sorry, but some of the photos just look so staged.

Like the one where she's 'grasping' the oxygen mask - but just happens to be showing her rings off to full effect...

I think it's all very sad. Sad that people see this as a reasonable way to make money, with little or no regard to how the kids will felt about it in later years. Sad that her imminent death is no eagerly awaited by several press houses and there will no doubt be a bidding war on the first picture of her lying in state.

Not how I would want it to be.

Haribosmummy · 04/03/2009 21:18

trouble is, 2shoes, it's almost impossible to switch this off.

Editors / journos / paps - this is how they make money. They are on the scent of someone who they know sells papers and magazines.

I think stopping this before the (sad) inevitable conclusion will be harder than you might think.

sassy · 04/03/2009 21:31

lydle3
Couldn't ignore your post. Your poor little girl. Hope her prognosis is good at the moment.

2shoes · 04/03/2009 22:36

Haribosmummy then sadly that is the price she will have to pay for going public.

lydle3 best wishes to you dd xx

I have lived with cancer, my mum died of it, I grew up watching a woman I loved and respected going through hell.

GivePeasAChance · 04/03/2009 22:41

It's her dignity. She can do as she chooses.

I would say it is the last of her worries, having her picture taken for the front page of The Sun.

lydle3 · 05/03/2009 09:17

Sorry, haribosmummy - STAGED - are you completely crazy ??

Do you think the hard workers of the NHS, who are looking after these people would be happy to pose for a staged picture ???

Do you honestly think someone who is dying, and in obvious pain is worried about the angle of her rings ??????????

lydle3 · 05/03/2009 09:18

Sassy, thanks she is fine for now. She is a fighter.

I am just at some of these comments

Haribosmummy · 05/03/2009 09:54

No, Lydle3 - Acutally, I don't think Jade (or anyone else affected for that matter) cares about this stuff. Which is why I find it so hard to believe that Jade is actually in control of much of what's going on and being written now.

I, do, however, think someone Max Clifford is pulling strings. Making sure the right photos get to the right papers and magazines.

I totally appreciate why she is doing what she is doing, I don't agree with the way she's going about it, but that's not the real issue.

mayorquimby · 05/03/2009 10:32

"BUT do you think she wants then snapping her going from hospital to hospital in her nightie, sucking on gas for pain relief ??"

my honest answer? yes. from my knowledge of the way paparazzi photographers and lesser known celebs work i'd stake my house on the fact that those photos were staged. (not that they actually started posing but that the press were informed of when the ambulance was arriving)
and i think the fact that she employs max clifford to do her pr offensive is the greatest indicator of this, those trying to apportion blame to him are off the mark in my opinion.jade hired him to do all this, jade has done this all her life, why do people all of a sudden assume that she doesn't want any of this simply because she's sick?we've seen no evidence to indicate that she doesn't want it. no hiding from paps,no asking the press to leave her alone in this vulnerable time.
so whatever her motivation (and i don't personally believe the party line of "it's all for the children" but that's another days work) all the evidence points towards jade actively wanting these photos.

2shoes · 05/03/2009 10:35

surely if she wanted to be left alone, all she has to do is release a statement. might not work, but if you read the link I posted earlier it seems she is still "liking" having her photo takeN.

god alone knows what her boys will make of all of this in years to come.

Haribosmummy · 05/03/2009 11:15

MayorQuimby - I agree with your post.

I didn't mean that Max Clifford was asking or forcing Jade Goody to anything she doesn't want to do, but I think (at that moment - when the ambulance arrives / her leaving hospital / picking rings) SOMEONE is thinking: How do we make this look as good as possible to get it as many tabloids as possible.

Jade herself might not be thinking of that at that moment but it is being thought of.

That was the point I was trying to make.

MadameCastafiore · 05/03/2009 11:19

Its all well and good bitching about her but she is in such a place at the moment that rational thought is probably impossible.

Poor thing is probably clutching at anything she can to make life longer and more bearable.

Leave her be.

docket · 05/03/2009 11:25

I'm not particularly comfortable with the whole circus tbh. But I can choose to ignore it. As someone else has said, saying who awful it is and then linking to it is a little odd...
