Female celebs we don't "get", part 2. Dita von Teese...

Following on from the Agyness Deyn thread, I'd like to know what other people think about Dita von Teese. I keep seeing pictures of her everywhere, and whenever I look closer, it seems like there's something wrong or missing with the picture. Has anyone else noticed anything strange about her that I could be picking up on?

Could a man do it too? (though I suppose there are male strippers...)

she had tassles on nipples and knickers.it was more of a dance with scarves and fans etc.im sounding like a perv arent i?!

beanieb · 03/12/2008 11:50

without the slap
she is quite gorgeous

Snaf · 03/12/2008 11:51

@ 'stripping for the prude'.

I'm sure it can be fun and glamorous and sexy in a non-tacky way. Just as there are occasionally sex scenes in films (for example) that are absolutely brilliant and powerful and non-exploitative etc etc. Nudity per se is not a problem!

But I just really despair of all this 'empowerment' shite that's peddled constantly whenever some pert young thing gets her tits out.

RamblingRosa · 03/12/2008 13:42

I hate it too Snaf. I worry about my DD growing up in a culture where women are so objectified and where being "a celebrity" or a glamour model are seen as acceptable and popular career routes for girls. Argh, I despair. I'm too tired to argue coherently about it. I just find it all depressing.

PS. Beanieb, she is wearing slap in those pics. Lots of it too by the looks of things! it's just well applied and she doesn't have her trade mark red lippy on

"she has a confidence that cannot fail to be beautifull.

i wish i had an ounce of her self assurance and inner confidence i really do. "

Any woman who needs to alter her appearance as much as she has/does is not in any way confident. Her "confidence" is based on (good) fake tits and hair dye and a lot of make-up. I don't think she's un-made-up in those photos, just more subtley than usual.

I can leave the house without an inch of foundation, half a tube of red lippy and a corset, it takes confidence to face the world without a mask, I think she is probably very image obsessed and insecure, and needs to be hailed as beautiful to feel it. If you follow that.

I think she's beautiful, but it all look like a vast amount of hard work. Did anyone see the American Vogue feature when she got married to MM? It was all sweeping Dior gowns and stately homes; Manson as usual had more slap on than her. And then someone proposed a toast 'To Heather and Brian'. Took things down a notch or ten!

No fionaan,I don't think I could do her job.The only thing we have in common is that we are both pale.

Sarah Vine in yesterday's Times says it all - and isn't it depressing?? www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article5282196.ece
