And thank you to the woman brave enough to report this 🙏🏻 wish them all the best

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · Today 14:58

I wonder how many more will come forward now? I'm so pleased for those brave women, amazing.

Lobsterteapot · Today 15:00

Nope! Chuck the book at him!

The judge has said today that he’s going to prison.

I know, my point was in reference to the PP who said he would because he was guilty of rape.

EnterQueene · Today 15:02

Excellent news. With Trump's election disaster it feels like the arc of history is finally bending slightly back towards justice this week.

martha4clark · Today 15:05

So pleased.

Funkyfoxy · Today 15:05

Thought he would get off but sad for his kids though that he's just gone now for a long time

Thedogscollar · Today 15:05

There was never any doubt in my mind. I hope they put the repulsive fool away for a very long time.
I actually feel for anyone sharing a cell with it.

Alex4646 · Today 15:06

How many more times are the BBC going to condone - if not encourage - this kind of behaviour, with no consequences? It's a tragedy for all concerned.
I always keep an open mind however, and find it odd that people take 15 or 20 years to come forward when the police usually do listen to these allegations, even if they can't get the CPS to agree to a prosecution (as in my case). Rape is almost a crime without punishment.
I remain baffled as to why they didn't deal with Hugh Edwards properly, he should definitely be in prison.

MerryAquaKoala · Today 15:06

Excellent. Vile piece of crap that he is.

TwoDrifters2 · Today 15:11

I hope this brings a sense of some sort of closure to those brave women. Sadly not all of them.

Have his celeb friends made any comment about any of this? The accusations, the trial, the sentence? Anything? Jonathan Ross? Noel Fielding? Or have they all gone silent?

DoubleShotEspresso · Today 15:11

I wonder if RB's father, (who famously "treated RB to experiences with prostitutes at a young age" will reflect on his abject failings and admit them? Or will he blame the media too?

BillieWiper · Today 15:12

Vile cunt. I'm especially relieved the anal rape was found guilty.

I think the one where he tried to drag someone into a toilet was fair enough not guilty (in terms of it not directly being SA) more attempted SA, but all the rest he should've been done for.

I hope he goes down for many years. It'll probably be no more than a couple in reality though.

I feel so sorry for his children.

AmnesiacDream · Today 15:13

Well yes actually.
There have been so many footballers and other celebrities and sports people who have got away with things because of the power of their fame and their wealth it wouldn't have surprised me if he had been found Not Guilty.
Having said that I am extremely pleased he has been found Guilty.

Edited

Agreed. I doubt there would have been any chance if he'd been tried at the height of his popularity instead of now when he's already burned a lot of bridges.

AnneElliott · Today 15:16

It is great news - hopefully a lengthy sentence as if it isn’t in sure there will be lots of people petitioning the AG as unduly lenient.

And this does element names of those charges should be released as no doubt lots more women will come forward, especially after these guilty verdicts. Well done to those women.

HedgerowD · Today 15:17

Wonderful news. Hopefully we shall see similar with the unnamed PPT celebrity who has lost his injunction bid this week.

REDB99 · Today 15:17

Good. Thank you to those brave women who faced him and the questioning in court.

Thedogscollar · Today 15:19

Apparently two more brave women have come forward claiming they have also been raped by RB. This is not the end of we will hear of him and his appalling treatment of women.
His wife would be mad to stand by him for a second longer.
He can spout God and religion all he wants it does not make him a good man.

TouchMyBumThisIsLife · Today 15:19

His type is the reason why women cannot walk along after dark.

No. Good for his kids not to have a sex predator in their house. And for the safety of any of their friends who come over.

Tolkienista · Today 15:19

Always found Russell Brand a cocky, over the top performer. Not in the slightest surprised at his crimes against women. He's got what was coming to him

augustusglupe · Today 15:20

I loved him and have never laughed so much as at his gigs. I suppose it was a case of hiding in plain sight.
Me & adult DD were talking about this last week & I said I thought he was guilty but that he’d probably get off. I’m glad the verdict seems clearcut & he’ll probably go down for quite a few years. I do feel very sorry for his wife.

Well let’s not perpetuate the belief that rape is an after dark only activity. This trial proves it happens in daylight, in peoples, homes, in front of others etc.

Aluna · Today 15:24

OttersOnAPlane · Today 14:31

I'm only sorry two of the women haven't had their rapes acknowledged by the court. Predatory shite.

It may be the jury felt the burden of proof wasn’t met not that they weren’t acknowledged.

Alittlefrustrated · Today 15:25

I'm glad if he is guilty, and hope other accusers get justice too. His victims have been incredibly brave. There may be many more.
I'm very surprised though.
It's surely almost impossible to prove you were raped 20 years ago. It's hard enough at any time.
Also, I know I'll be jumped on, but I do worry that people may have consented, but look back in anger if they felt degraded by their experiences, then or with hindsight/maturity. Current attitudes are very different.
I was a huge fan years ago, but It seems I only saw the best, sanitised, side of him on TV.
Those female celebs who have raised concerns about him certainly gave me food for thought - non of them seemed likely to do so without just cause.
His poor children.
