What’s the best posh hotel in London

WhitegreeNcandle · Today 13:11

Looking to book a night at a fancy hotel for DH’s 50th. What would be people’s recommendations?

Excellent service is probably the most important thing to us. He loves old school traditional type things. Went to Simpsons in the Strand recently which he adored.

Am contemplating The Savoy, The Ritz or OWO Raffles. We’ll probably see a show so keener on that bit of London rather than the Dorechester.

Woykd love to hear people’s thoughts

Hotel 41 in Victoria. Best service I’ve ever experienced, super posh, very very posh English

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Today 14:37

I also love the Corinthia but that’s bigger and less personal.. hotel 41 is much more exclusive and intimate

Claridges,Savoy, Ritz, Hotel 41. Others are available and unfortunately I've not tried them. Have a look at https://www.lhw.com/property-search/London?rooms=1&numadult1=2&numchild1=0&autocompletecategory=Cities#sortby=picks&musthave=&limit=10&timeseed=639292976977950000

Dorchester and others may be different groups. What's your budget? Restaurant in the hotel or elsewhere? Possibly The Savoy would be his thing. Pay for me to have a night there and I'll report back. I'll suffer so you don't have to

Fawltytitties · Today 15:18

I like the royal horse guards

Pinadaqx2 · Today 15:18

Never been but The Ned!

bababamama · Today 15:20

The savoy is probably the ultimate traditional hotel especially if you’re heading to a show, it just has something the more modern, or recently modernised hotels do not. To get ideas there’s currently a programme on channel 5 I think featuring the history of different hotels, might inspire you

I've heard you like a man (or men) in uniform.

bardabunga · Today 15:22

Claridge's is where they Royals go by all accounts.

PantaloonMad · Today 15:22

I've always really wanted to go to The Rosewood

CareerSchmareer · Today 15:22

Claridges is fabulous. Also, The Berkeley.

The Ned is ok but the rooms have horrendous sound proofing and I wouldn't call the service top notch. Its a fabulous building though.

Claridge’s!

No - it's very brash imo.

If he likes really old school, I'd go for the Connaught.

Corinthian is lovely but a bit more modern.

freezingmytoesoff · Today 15:38

The Connaught

Daftapath · Today 15:40

The Ned is certainly interesting but I wouldn’t say that’s it’s super posh.
The main restaurant area is incredibly noisy, I found. The upstairs bar in the converted dome next to the pool is lovely and the basement, bank vault area is interesting. Not all of it is open to hotel guests though.

It's really special there especially in winter with the fies and looking around Lincolns Inn is really interesting, it's bus or short taxi distance to theatreland

LittleGreenShoots · Today 15:44

I've not stayed but the St. Pancras Station hotel or the Clermont Charing Cross Station hotel are on my wishlist.

The latter is very handy for the theatre district.

ApexDragonfly · Today 15:47

The Lanesborough would probably suit his old school traditional vibe.

Ineffable23 · Today 15:49

There are some interesting documentaries about London hotels - maybe watching them would tell you something about where you wanted to go:

Claridge's:

The savoy:

The Ritz:

The Dorchester:

I think I've seen most of these but not 100% certain!

I’d say The Goring - ticks a few boxes

WhitegreeNcandle · Today 15:53

Thank you all. Lots to look at here and a few I’d never heard of.

Budget is not unlimited but chunky. I’d say up to 6k for 2 adults and 2 teens. My instinct was the savoy but the reviews online are awful. Currently looking at the OWO

MO would be perfect to nip over to Harrods & always interesting cafes etc in Knightsbridge.
