What’s the best posh hotel in London

WhitegreeNcandle · Today 13:11

Looking to book a night at a fancy hotel for DH’s 50th. What would be people’s recommendations?

Excellent service is probably the most important thing to us. He loves old school traditional type things. Went to Simpsons in the Strand recently which he adored.

Am contemplating The Savoy, The Ritz or OWO Raffles. We’ll probably see a show so keener on that bit of London rather than the Dorechester.

Woykd love to hear people’s thoughts

The Ned is one of my favourites, not really the right neck of the woods for the theatre though.
NoMad is lovely for round there - love the bar and service is good.
St Pancras Renaissance is good, probably not the right location though..
The new Rosewood Chancery hotel (Grosvenor square). The company I work for was involved in the fit out and no expense was spared!

I think the OWO is a good bet. I am going to a Christmas party there and cannot wait. It is newer so will be a different experience. I love that area as well and for theatre it is perfect.

Of the others mentioned, I think the St Pancras Renaissance is spectacular, but agree, for what you are after not quite the location.

Claridges or the Goring. Every documentary/vlog I've ever seen on Claridges waxes lyrical about the housekeeping standards and the personal service.
The Goring was a favourite of HLMQE2 I believe and I think is family owned, so isn't a victim of corporate sameness.

Londonmummy66 · Today 16:18

I love The Goring and the royals use it quite a bit. If you have children going with you then maybe one with a pool though?

Pedant61 · Today 16:20

Claridge's. Not the blingiest, but the service is second to none. So much tradition.
Expect to pay £1,000+ per night for any of these top hotels.

Poppingby · Today 16:21

I'd leave the teens somewhere else and get a suite instead personally. They'll only moan.

Ggeordie · Today 16:26

The Peninsula (Hyde Park Corner) is probably the poshest I've been to (I've been to many that others have mentioned).

They have a fleet of Rolls Royce for guest use (no idea if that's every guest BTW).

HerissonCache · Today 16:27

Can’t comment on posh hotels (I like Batty Langley’s and Hazlitt’s which are lovely but not really posh) but you should take him for supper at Rules, for properly English old-school bonkers-ness, if he liked Simpson’s. It’s not fussy food so there’s an outside chance of the teens liking it too.

If you’re looking for somewhere a bit more modern The Londoner is excellent. It’s on Leicester Square, has a pool& spa, a Japanese bar/restaurant on the top floor with views of the London Eye and a residents only lounge. It also has A hidden whiskey bar through one of the other restaurants.

They’re quite young and know which way their bread is buttered!

Came to say 41 too! Loved it there 🤩

We were very very disappointed with The Savoy. The room service menu was dirty and had been scribbled on, the TV didn't work (man came to fix it several hours after we reported it), toiletries in the bathroom hadn't been refilled, it wasn't spotlessly clean either. I felt attention to detail was lacking - for the cost it shouldn't have been. No acknowledgement of special occasion despite being asked both when booking and on arrival if we were celebrating anything!

Claridges was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, everywhere was spotless, lovely in room treats and complimentary champagne because it was for a birthday. If money was no object I'd stay there every few months just because I could....

I've not stayed but the St. Pancras Station hotel or the Clermont Charing Cross Station hotel are on my wishlist.

The latter is very handy for the theatre district.

Edited

Don’t bother with the St Pancras hotel. The building is gorgeous but the layout isn’t great. It’s very open, the opposite of intimate.

GoodGirlFaith · Today 16:57

The Langham.

AgathaX · Today 16:57

The Rookery. Beautiful and unusual hotel.

MyManinCaracas · Today 16:58

I wouldn’t recommend supper at Rules either. Unless you’re fond of the sort of food that was served in boarding schools in the 60s. Beautiful place though.

Timespentwithcatsisneverwasted · Today 17:00

Brown's, the Ritz, the Goring

Skybluecoat · Today 17:00

I love The Dorchester but if that’s no good location wise then Claridges.

The Goring is amazing but probably not in the area you want.

Didimum · Today 17:19

I think the Ritz is quite tatty. I’d say The Savoy or Claridges.

LoafofSellotape · Today 17:26

Have a look at Hannah Rickets on YouTube. She has been staying at 5 star hotels and rates them. I think the Connaught came out best. The Savoy was very disappointing iirc.

Ophy83 · Today 17:35

The Langham has a lovely spa and does an excellent afternoon tea.

If you want something smaller/more boutique you could look at Hazlitt's, which is an old Georgian townhouse. DH and I stayed there one weekend in December and it was lovely, very Christmassy. Bill Bryson apparently always stays there.

Thats my DH’s idea of a dream dinner!
