Do you keep medication in the bathroom?

If so, why?

Growing up I wasn’t aware of any medication in the house, it’s likely that’s because there was none, but I have just seen someone mention on another thread that meds may be kept in a bathroom and I do recall seeing this on TV.

So, the s that the ‘norm’ and I just didn’t know? When i first had my own place I just kept any meds in the kitchen, and I still do now.

Medication I take daily is on the sideboard in the dining room. Anything else is in the cupboard in the kitchen.

Sunbringer · 01/11/2026 13:39

No, a drawer in the utility. Just like my mum did. I wouldn’t want meds near water for some reason.

Sunbringer · 01/11/2026 13:40

My daily stuff is in the bedside drawer

No, a drawer in the utility. Just like my mum did. I wouldn’t want meds near water for some reason.

Why, as many need to be taken with water?

I also keep mine in the kitchen, I'd worry about my grandchildren messing with them in the bathroom.

Crunchymum · 01/11/2026 18:19

General first aid box and medication is in a kitchen cupboard as well as vitamins.

DD2 has a daily injection that has to be kept in the fridge. So all the injection paraphernalia also lives in the medicine cupboard (well its a shelf in a cupboard)

You have to walk past the kitchen to get to the bathroom in our house (unless you are entering and then it's the first room you pass) but I've never liked the idea of medication in a room younger people are often left unattended. Yes they are old enough to shower / bath themselves and I am 99.9% sure they are all old enough and sensible enough to not take random medication but I just don't like the idea of medication in the bathroom for reasons I can't fully articulate.

Never, even when we did have a bigger bathroom. In a drawer downstairs, much easier.

Bowies · 01/11/2026 19:05

No, the kitchen for general items, personal medication in the bedroom.

JayJayj · 01/11/2026 19:06

I keep mine in a high cupboard in the kitchen. My husband has a tablet he takes before bed so he has that next to his bed as it’s easy to remember.

BigBadPotato · 01/11/2026 19:12

No. My medication and the general stuff for the household as a whole are in the kitchen, in a high cupboard.

NewUserName2025 · 01/11/2026 19:41

Nope, in the kitchen in a cupboard above eye level (of the shortest adult!) - between us we have a fair amount of prescribed medication, plus OTC ‘stuff’, and we’d never remember to take it if it was in the bathroom (ND household). First aid stuff is also stored there, as it would be a faff to go upstairs to find a plaster/paracetamol etc when needed. Above eye level is to keep it out of reach of the toddler and the dog. Works for us. 🙂

SquirrelGG · 01/11/2026 19:54

My prescription medication and vitamins are kept in the kitchen, everything else in the bathroom cabinet.

Dearg · 01/11/2026 20:00

Yes, in a drawer in the downstairs bathroom. But there are just the two of us here, both adults, the meds are unexciting, and any little ones are supervised in the bathroom, so it’s low risk.

Mackerelfillets · 01/11/2026 20:14

I don't keep any meds in the bathroom but I do acknowledge that traditionally that was/is the case. Most of ours are in the kitchen and my regular meds are in a box in the living room.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 01/11/2026 21:22

When the kids were small I had a locked cabinet in the bathroom with meds in. Just standard ones as nobody was on prescription meds. We found that the cupboard was damp so it wasn’t an ideal place so they were moved to the bedroom.
If anyone needed short term meds then they would be in the kitchen and the calpol would probably be there too.

Now the first aid box and standard meds live in a box in a cupboard in my bedroom. My open prescription meds are in my bedside drawer, the stock/unopened ones have a box in the bedroom cupboard.

No we keep ours in the kitchen, we don’t have a bathroom cupboard or anything, everything is just in baskets at the end of the bath.

ItsOkItsDarkChocolate · Yesterday 10:09

Keep it where works for you, your family, and circumstances.

For us, bathroom, no. Kitchen, and many other places, yes.

TaterTots68 · Yesterday 12:01

No and I am not aware of anyone who does. My daily meds are next to the bed, paracetamol etc are in a kitchen cupboard.

Cornishmumofone · Yesterday 12:13

I have some everywhere: inhalers and some basics (kids nurofen) in the bathroom; HRT patches and ther medication in my bedroom; iron tablets, antihistamines and vitamins in the kitchen; EpiPens and inhalers in handbags which hang on the kitchen door when not in use… then there are inhalers in the car glovebox and my work bag, and inhalers and spare EpiPens in a sports bag.

Gossipisgood · Yesterday 12:22

I keep all meds in a high cabinet in the Kitchen. Meds in the bathroom are available to anyone. If you have visitors with Children & they use the bathroom they could get to them so not the best idea to have them in a room a child can lock themselves in & have unattended access to.

QueenMaiker · Yesterday 12:25

Some in the bathroom and some in the highest part of kitchen cupboard.

Currently we have a large stock of paracetamol due to stocking up prepping (floods, AI disaster, snow etc) and the surplus is hidden away. I don’t like having enough medicine to kill someone in easy reach!
