Do you keep medication in the bathroom?

If so, why?

Growing up I wasn’t aware of any medication in the house, it’s likely that’s because there was none, but I have just seen someone mention on another thread that meds may be kept in a bathroom and I do recall seeing this on TV.

So, the s that the ‘norm’ and I just didn’t know? When i first had my own place I just kept any meds in the kitchen, and I still do now.

Have spare medication in a cupboard. Current medication in a plastic box tucked under the sofa.

PressedThistle · 31/10/2026 20:56

I keep mine in the bedroom. I don't have a bathroom cabinet.

Why do you know where everyone you know keeps their medication? I would have no idea where people I know keep their meds.

Fair enough that's my bad, I meant everyone I know that I also know where they keep their medicine. That includes my parents, my PIL, 4 sets of Grandparents, my brother, my sister in law and a few friends.

I wonder if people do it becsue it was what was done by many going back generations?

No, they are in a drawer in our bedroom. They have to be kept in a dry dark coolish environment especially my asthma sprays so the bathroom wouldn’t really be ideal.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 31/10/2026 21:04

Utility room. My daily tabs in a box on the counter and all other OTC stuff in a cupboard in there with batteries and light bulbs. I also keep some in the fridge.

DH keeps his on the kitchen counter which really fucking annoys me.

No DC in the house.

Teenagerantruns · 31/10/2026 21:07

Mainly the bathroom, l have no idea why, maybe because my parent's did?
I do have some painkillers in a kitchen drawer though.

ToadRage · 31/10/2026 21:25

No, occasional needs like paracetamol, ibuprofen, strepsils etc. we keep in a tin in the kitchen. My daily meds are in my pill dispenser. My parents did that. We never had anywhere for it in the bathroom. I don't recall ever having a bathroom cabinet. The kitchen was normal to me.

Ilovemum · 31/10/2026 21:28

We keep in a top shelf in the utility room.... Mainly as it's out of reach- and we all know where it is (epilepsy rescue meds kept there- if in the bathroom may need them when someone is in there)....

Stormyrose · 31/10/2026 21:29

No, general stuff like painkillers in a kitchen drawer, my husbands meds in a tin on the kitchen window ledge, and when I took medication it was on living room window ledge beside my vitamins,

bathroom cabinets have toothbrush chargers, make up, razors, shaving gel, shavers , additional bottles of shower gel, sudocream etc basically the stuff we use in the bathroom,

Canape · 31/10/2026 21:31

Downstairs in a cupboard in a little room between the downstairs loo and the kitchen

mathanxiety · 31/10/2026 21:32

I keep mine in the bathroom in the cabinet known as 'the medicine cabinet'. It has a mirror on one side of the door and it's built in between the studs, above the wash basin. Inside, there are little glass shelves.

Nomorewino · 31/10/2026 21:33

My personal daily medication is on my bedside cabinet. The top ups for this in the cupboard below.

First aid box with calpol, paracetamol, savlon etc in the pantry.

Ucouldntmakeitup321 · 31/10/2026 21:35

My prescribed medication is in my bedside drawer . Paracetamol/ Ibuprofen in a tin in hallway or other random drawers in kitchen. Have never stored meds in bathroom..seems a strange place TBH .

PeasOff · 31/10/2026 21:36

Upper cupboard in the kitchen.

IntentionallyAsymmetrical · 31/10/2026 22:04

In the cupboard to the left of the cupboard under the sink for all things like painkillers, laxatives, anti histamines, plasters, first aid manual, splint, thermometer, cats' flea stuff. Also keep Gaviscon and a box of painkillers by my bed in case I am woken by pain. If it's something as a one off like a course of antibiotics I keep them on the coffee table ( we have no children or visiting children so no safety issues leaving meds in the open).

user293948849167 · 31/10/2026 22:06

Yes, in the bathroom cabinet. It was out of reach of the kids when they were small

Madamefroufrou · 31/10/2026 22:07

top shelf of the fridge we keep solely for drugs, medicines, Savlon,
but a box of pRacetamol in the kitchen cupboard above the kettle,
next to the tea/coffee etc.

plasters etc in a square tin in the pantry

we have an East facing bathroom, too warm for storing drugs,
compromising efficacy
besides which, we don’t have a bathroom cabinet

growing up, parents, grandparents, anyone I knew had a mirror fronted
bathroom cabinet with all manner of mysterious lotions and potions,
Steradent tablets, calamine lotion in a glass bottle, ZamBuk,
Germolene ointment,
bottle of Indian Brandee, heavy metal razor in its case,

teeny tiny bottle of olive oil, ditto witchhazel,
Ponds cold cream/vanishing cream, ancient bottle of 4711,
Old Spice shaving stick, badger? shaving brush and other mysteries,
tiny bandages, there for years, murky cough medicine same,
Gibbs toothpaste in a round flat tin, Gripe Water, Lux toilet soap, sometimes Camay,
the drug of choice was Beecham’s powders in a paper package, or for children,
Dispirin, cod liver oil, barbaric looking eyebrow tweezers, nail clippers,
Dad’s black comb, Max Factor Creme Puff and mum’s ruby lipstick.

Saturdaysfairies · 31/10/2026 22:09

No. In a locked cabinet in the kitchen.

SmokeAndStack · 31/10/2026 22:10

Yes because there is a bathroom cabinet as well as two drawers under the sink and kitchen space can be easily filled with things like cake.

MagnoliaParks · 31/10/2026 22:11

Painkillers and anti histamines are in pretty much every room for convenience. Everything else and reserves used to be in a drawer in the spare bedroom but when we got rid of that we moved them to a drawer under the bathroom sink. It’d be empty without medicines in it, so it’s in there as it was a convenient unused storage space.

My parents keep theirs in a kitchen cupboard.

swapsicles · 31/10/2026 22:11

In my bedroom in a drawer. Vitamins are downstairs.
Also bog standard paracetamol /ibuprofen is in various places, I never run out as there's always some somewhere.

Gertibear · 31/10/2026 22:13

I’ve ever seen that on tv. We keep ours up high in a cupboard in the utility room. Anyone that I happen to know where they keep it, it’s the kitchen.
I keep a spare Calpol in my bedside cabinet incase one of the kids need it during the night.

Copperoliverbear · 31/10/2026 22:15

I have it all in a kitchen cupboard bathroom is downstairs.

XenoBitch · 31/10/2026 22:24

I keep mine in the kitchen. I do have some next to my bed, as I take them first thing in the morning.
