Do you keep medication in the bathroom?

If so, why?

Growing up I wasn’t aware of any medication in the house, it’s likely that’s because there was none, but I have just seen someone mention on another thread that meds may be kept in a bathroom and I do recall seeing this on TV.

So, the s that the ‘norm’ and I just didn’t know? When i first had my own place I just kept any meds in the kitchen, and I still do now.

The bathroom is where pretty much everyone I know keeps their medication in a cabinet.

Nospringchix · 31/10/2026 20:16

No. Don't have room for them in there and even if I did I wouldn't keep them in there.

SillySallySaidSo · 31/10/2026 20:16

No, in the kitchen. Bathroom is upstairs and not a convenient place for us at all.

We keep ours in the kitchen. But with some issues we also use a safe for medications.

Littletreefrog · 31/10/2026 20:17

Everyone I know keeps medication in the bathroom cabinet. We did too until I did a mental health first aid course and the instructor said keeping medication in a room which (normally) is the only room with a lock on the door is not a good idea.

I have a box of paracetamol and some throat lozenges in the bathroom mainly for if needed during the night.

I have other meds and DS weekly box of meds in the kitchen. I then have a cupboard in the utility room with the rest of ds meds and feeds in. And some emergency meds for him in his room.

basically only the living room, dining room and my bedroom don’t have meds of some sort in 🤣

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/10/2026 20:20

Yep! All in the bathroom here

Nat6999 · 31/10/2026 20:21

No I have my medication all in a box in my bedroom, one side for morning meds, the other for evening ones, once my new bedside tables are delivered I'm having a drawer so I can put it all out of sight. I have a lot of meds, 11 different prescribed ones plus over the counter painkillers, vitamins & supplements.

Moros · 31/10/2026 20:27

I've got a few prescribed medications I take every day and they're kept in my bedroom. If they're not in immediate view I have a tendency to forget to take them.

General things like paracetamol, plasters and so on are kept in the bathroom.

Realorsurreal · 31/10/2026 20:28

No. All meds are in my bedside table drawers. Including general first aid stuff like plasters and throat lozenges.

Nourishinghandcream · 31/10/2026 20:28

No, just some painkillers in there for use at night if required.
Our main medicine box is kept in the kitchen.
My personal medications (of which I have many☹️) are kept in my own medicine box in my cupboard.

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/10/2026 20:29

Prescribed medication stays in my dressing table. General medication like paracetamol and gaviscon is in the bathroom cabinet.

momager22 · 31/10/2026 20:31

Yes bathroom cabinet.
My parents used to keep it in the kitchen as they had limited bathroom storage

bluebunnyblue · 31/10/2026 20:42

Daily prescribed meds are stored where they're taken/used - kitchen for me (tablets) and her bedroom for DD1 (inhaler and ointment). Occasional use stuff like painkillers, throat sweets, cold sore cream and first aid bits etc are in the utility room.

avocadotofu · 31/10/2026 20:44

We keep ours in the kitchen.

Dicedpumpkin · 31/10/2026 20:44

Ours are in my car boot so they arent easy to access.

sprigatito · 31/10/2026 20:48

Our main medicine cupboard is in the kitchen; we have a wide variety of prescribed medications in our family so they’re all organised in one place. I also keep painkillers in our bedroom and more painkillers in the rucksack DH carries when we’re out. The bathroom cabinet is for toiletries and bathroom supplies. I wouldn’t put anything in there I wouldn’t want my dad getting hold of (Alzheimer’s).

SquigglePigs · 31/10/2026 20:49

Yes, we do. Albeit in our en suite rather than the family bathroom. Seemed the obvious place for them.

Only exception is some DH takes after breakfast and DD's vitamins and they're both in the kitchen where they're easier to grab.

That’s a really weird thing to know about pretty much everyone you know.

But, the question was why?

Absolutely not they are locked in my bedside table I have enough pills that would kill any of my kids if they got their hands on them

shellyleppard · 31/10/2026 20:52

I keep my daily medication in my bedside cabinet. General stuff like cold and flu tablets, plaster's, antiseptic cream etc lives in a box on top of the freezer.

bardabunga · 31/10/2026 20:53

I thought most people kept stuff like that in the bathroom cabinet. That's where we have the antihistamine cream, Bonjela, TCP, surgical spirit, cough mixture, thermometer, plasters, other random creams & ointments etc.

Daily medication & vitamins for me & DH are in the top cupboard in the kitchen.

Why do you know where everyone you know keeps their medication? I would have no idea where people I know keep their meds.

I keep mine in my bedroom.

Sally2791 · 31/10/2026 20:54

Nothing in the bathroom. Kids ask me if they need anything
