I like the thinking. Might be a bit too clever for the unfashionable though

They've already fallen for it. Only they haven't twigged yet. Even now they have committed to opposing a referendum to rejoin. Making it a tad tricky if the majority of the electorate likes the idea and wants it

I also liked the phew she said it on a less watched media outet

Could the concept of not paying tax be made retrospective?

Could the concept of not paying tax be made retrospective?

Absolutely. In fact you could get a rebate of everything you ever paid. All the fuel tax, VAT, stamp duty. Have at it, you’ll need it without any public services.

If nothing else, it is an interesting thought experiment (elitist that may be)

Could the concept of not paying tax be made retrospective?

Yes. You would need receipts though, hard copies and of course the money to get the money back. Tis always the way. A paper trail.

https://www.politico.eu/article/brussels-flexible-euro-schengen-uk-tried-rejoining/

Brussels would be flexible on letting Britain stay out of the euro and the Schengen area if it applied to rejoin the European Union, two EU officials familiar with the bloc’s approach have told POLITICO.

Britain would not necessarily have to join the single currency or passport-free zone — a concern held by some British voters — according to the two officials, who were granted anonymity to speak freely about a sensitive matter.

Interesting tweet from a Badenoch fan 😬

https://x.com/albieamankona/status/2116929621664891119

I' ve been one of Kemi Badenoch’s staunchest media supporters since 2022, and I think she’s doing a fantastic job as Tory leader. However, I do not shy away from being a critical friend.

Yoy cannot condemn Nigel Farage and reform party uk for making an issue of your race/ethnicity, then hold up Rupert Lowe as an example of colourblind conservatism.

My sources tell me Tory HQ and Restore HQ are very chummy. Yet some of Restore Britain’s most vocal online supporters are also among the most viciously racist towards Kemi. And I often defend her against them.

There were countless better ways to answer that question. IMHO, this is a maternity-pay-is too generous-level Times Radio Kate McCann assisted gaffe. This was completely voluntary.

Thank God it wasn’t on BBC, Sky, ITV, Times or LBC. The fallout would have been far bigger. One thing I will give Kemi credit for is that these gaffes are becoming much less common. And I commend the progress which has been made

God, she is hard to listen to in that clip. She comes across as very bad-tempered. She is very muddled in her thinking/speaking. Although right about Farage.

Sweden has managed to stay out of the Euro for aaaaages by deliberately not meeting the criteria.

A nice summary of how bad Reform are doing. The news that Jenrick and Braveman are now in danger of losing their seats if polling doesn't pick up has been lost in the noise.

It's hard not to agree the moniker "A care home for failed Tories" is a very good word picture.

Until now 😀

Not that either of them would be any loss to Parliament at all. I would say that it would be good riddance to bad rubbish. 😁

BIossomtoes · Today 10:00

I’d so enjoy seeing Jenrick lose his seat. It would eclipse the Portillo moment by several multiples.

I wonder if this kerfuffle is a reaction to the fact that the budget has not hurt Labour's polling one iota.

Westminster Voting Intention:

LAB: 30% (=)
RFM: 22% (=)
CON: 20% (=)
LDM: 10% (+1)
GRN: 8% (-2)
SNP: 3% (=)

Apologies for resurrecting this from yesterday

Only 12 months ago Reform were leading Labour by 10 points

I'd forgotten how far ahead Reform were

I'd enjoy it even more if he came not just second but third or lower.

Losing his deposit would be good. It won’t happen though.

It is quite astonishing how quickly they have sunk.

BIWI · Today 10:21

Not sunk far enough for my liking, though

LizzieW1969 · Today 10:22

That’s true, there’s a die-hard group of voters who won’t abandon them.

TemperanceWest · Today 10:23

Yes, there is a hard-core who will cling on.

There really is a sense of a feedback loop here. Once triggered, it's hard to stop.

I suspect it is driven by a lot of people who aren't seeing any of that £72,000,000 they know Farage has to splash about. Hell hath no fury like a grifter not getting their whack.
