Do you eat 3 meals a day?

I have NC’d for this as I don’t want it linked to my other posts.
I use to eat 3 meals a day. 3 full meals and all I did was put on weight. Now I eat 2 meals and a snack.
In work today and a colleague asked was I not starving.
today I had for brunch (my first meals is at 10ish) - 2 boiled eggs, 2 rice cakes with chocolate spread and peanut butter. And a coffee.
for a snack at 1ish I had a cup of tea and a banana
dinner at 5:45 was a chicken salad with, lettuce, cucumber, olives, onion, tomato’s dressing and Parmesan cheese. Then I had a cup of tea and 4squares of chocolate.

Comment was made by my colleague at lunch time. I’m never really hungry for lunch tbh. I would have a few snacks but today I just wanted the banana. My calorie intake for today was lower than usual at 1390cals. Usually I aim for 1500.

so what do you do? Do you eat three full meals? I find a lot of people have no breakfast at all.

I don't. I find cooking and eating so boring and Im rarely hungry.
Id rather do anything else.
Ive been known to eat cereal for dinner when I get back from work.
I know I have to eat so I usually grab something easy like salmon and a bag of salad. I never eat breakfast and I dont like junk food. I am size 8 to 10.
My parents entire day revolves around preparation, cooking and washing up. The table has to be laid properly every time for every meal. Complicated food is cooked. I cant bear it. Id rather be outside doing the garden or something.
Neither parent is fat either.

It's not the calories, it's what the food is. I eat a lot of veg, some protein, some carbs and a little fat.

I don't think about calories. I think about satiety.

Edited

It’s a problem if you’re only eating 900 calories a day though isn’t it?

I'm never really that hungry of an evening and only really cook dinner because my husband wants to eat!
He's also terrible for snacking in the evening too which i would never normal do but once its there, I'm tempted!
Before I met him I rarely ate dinner and I was 2st lighter 😬😬

I'm on the jabs and only eat 1/2 light meals each day. 1 meal for 2 days after jab then back up to 2 meals until next jab. No snacks. No longer hungry.

NoHangoversToday · 27/10/2026 21:15

I am 52. I used to eat three meals. I have always been chubby. I now eat 2 meals due to a reduced appetite. I'm still chubby. I've been 12.5 stone most of my adut life but I honestly could not eat 3 meals nowadays. It's not competiitve under eating, I think it's just getting older tbh.

Shoobadadoo · 27/10/2026 21:17

That’s madness what you eat OP I would feel faint.

i eat A LOT but have 3 small kids and running around a lot. I’m a size 8 and haven’t ever really been bigger than a 10.

7am 3 slices of toast with marmelade

10am toast with 2 fried eggs and an avocado. Sometimes beans as well.

11 cuppa and chocolate biscuits

2pm leftovers for lunch eg chili con carne

4pm snacks with kids

5pm eat tea with kids eg fish fingers

8pm wine and cheese and crackers and tomatoes and grapes and celery etc.

9pm chocolate and bed

i think if I had a job sitting down I would gain weight but I’m always up and doing stuff. Bending down for nappies, putting kids in car seat. Hauling a double buggy in and out the boot.

It's not 900 calories.

Daffodilsearch · 27/10/2026 21:24

I'm 7st4lbs and seem to eat loads compared to some. Always three meals plus snacks.

Breakfast typically 2xweetabix, porridge or berries, yogurt and nuts. Lunch a sandwich and veggie pieces, filled omelette and salad, toasted sandwich and salad. A variety of evening meals. Yesterday snacks were an apple, teacake and crisps. Today snacks a muffin, apple and salted nuts.

Yeah my kids are 11 and 14…my running around days are over. When they were younger (and I was) I ate more! Now I spend my day in work and driving them places in the car.

3 meals, several snacks

Breakfast is usually not heavy though, so maybe a banana or toast and a latte

BMI 20

DeftGoldHedgehog · 27/10/2026 21:34

Sometimes three small meals, and sometimes two larger meals. Depends what I'm doing and how/when I feel hungry.

Mosaic80 · 27/10/2026 21:36

mostly 3 meals, sometimes 2 (no breakfast). I mostly low carb though so I might have Greek yoghurt with vanilla protein powder and a few berries (sometimes with chia seeds or peanut butter) for breakfast, chicken salad with dressing for lunch and chilli with veg and cheese on top for dinner. It just means I can eat whatever I want within those parameters. I eat dark chocolate and cheese or nuts as snacks (and drink wine).

Middlemarch123 · 27/10/2026 21:41

Brunch between 11.00 and noon, today’s was a hot cross bun and a latte. Some days I have Greek Yoghurt and fresh fruit or toast, a little butter and marmalade.
Evening meal is between 6 pm and 8 pm. Today’s was smoked haddock, a few new potatoes and loads of green veg. I don’t snack, I never feel hungry and sometimes miss brunch altogether if I’m busy. Not intentionally, I just no longer have hunger pangs or much of an appetite. 5’8” and size 10. Haven’t weighed myself for years.

Myremoteislost · 27/10/2026 21:41

I eat breakfast and dinner, but lunch is usually just a snack. I feel like I spend my entire life buying, making and cleaning up after food, so just take the easy option.

It's not 900 calories.

But that was my question- for those who eat one meal a day, how many calories is that one meal

Who cares? I don't count them. Lots I expect.

I don't believe that it's the calories that make one fat but what those calories are and when they're eaten.

The food I eat tends to be quite dense so although I say not much carbs, the protein will be pulses and they are quite carby.

LBFseBrom · 27/10/2026 21:49

I have t eat regularly or I get a 'sibking' feeling, always feel better after food. However I wouldn't call all my food breaks, a 'meal'. A banana and yogurt, maybe a bit of cheese and biscuits, fruit. It's generally only one real meal per day.

Frenzi · 27/10/2026 21:53

If I am at work - yes. Usually yoghurt, fruit and chia seeds around 9am, soup or salad for lunch and then dinner around 8pm A protein shake or fruit snack at around 4pm. Thats 3 times a week

If I am not at work then no - usually just two meals. A cooked lunch at around 12/12.30 - scrambled egg, soup, bagel and cream cheese. Dinner at around 8pm. Then either a protein shake, fruit or tea and biscuits at around 4pm.

I am 4 stone down since January.

Palmtreesinthegarden · 27/10/2026 21:53

I have audhd so some days I eat 3 meals but more commonly I eat the same thing on repeat for 3 weeks straight and then I find a new food and the cycle repeats.

breakfast is normally eggs and avocado and a slice of soda bread & lunch is stir fry veg with no noodles or rice but with sesame seeds and a miso-mayo.

dinner is often a square of dark chocolate

i am really really bad at forgetting to eat. Sometimes it will be 4pm and I realise I have forgotten

Sunbringer · 27/10/2026 21:55

I usually have 3 meals. I used to always skip breakfast but I found I couldn’t concentrate in the last hour or so before my lunch break so now I have some.

That’s really not enough food for an adult woman. I doubt that’s even 1000 calories.

A standard day of eating for me is, at work by 7am-10.30am all fueled by coffee.
10.30… porridge.
2.30.. lunch before I’m back to work until 7.30pm. Today I had a slice of toast and a banana.
7.30.. Dinner. Today was 2 sausages, mash and peas, mini milky bar and cup of tea after.
I haven’t gained or lost weight in ages, healthy bmi.

Yep but only 2 of your 5 a day. Best to get a few more micronutrients in there if possible.

Mcdhotchoc · 27/10/2026 22:02

Having 2 meals a day works for me.
I have a modest lunch ( today was a jacket Spud with cheese) about 250 cals. Ate that at 2 ish. Dinner was chicken stew and rice. Also had a banana at work. I only drink tea. Dinner at 7.30.
The long fasting window suits me.
At the weekend I'll sometimes have an egg, with bacon/toms and a hash brown for breakfast but then I dont eat lunch.
As a short, round apple post menopausal it's the only way I don't put weight on.

ThatBreezyStork · 27/10/2026 22:03
