Do you eat 3 meals a day?

I have NC’d for this as I don’t want it linked to my other posts.
I use to eat 3 meals a day. 3 full meals and all I did was put on weight. Now I eat 2 meals and a snack.
In work today and a colleague asked was I not starving.
today I had for brunch (my first meals is at 10ish) - 2 boiled eggs, 2 rice cakes with chocolate spread and peanut butter. And a coffee.
for a snack at 1ish I had a cup of tea and a banana
dinner at 5:45 was a chicken salad with, lettuce, cucumber, olives, onion, tomato’s dressing and Parmesan cheese. Then I had a cup of tea and 4squares of chocolate.

Comment was made by my colleague at lunch time. I’m never really hungry for lunch tbh. I would have a few snacks but today I just wanted the banana. My calorie intake for today was lower than usual at 1390cals. Usually I aim for 1500.

so what do you do? Do you eat three full meals? I find a lot of people have no breakfast at all.

I’m a Hobbit- I eat many meals a day.

And my feet are hairy.

BatchCookBabe · 27/10/2026 19:43

No. I don't eat 3 full meals a day. I don't think most adults need 3 full meals a day.

I have a small breakfast, a small-ish lunch, and an average sized medium meal in the evening. I eat fruit and yogurts in between meals if I get hungry.

No, I am not a 'teeny tiny,' and this is not about competitive under-eating, I have struggled with my weight all my life, and if I eat too much I gain weight. I am at a weight I am OK with, and don't want to get fat again, so I am not a big eater.

I do exercise too, which helps me stay toned and fit and help my stamina.

Totaldramallama · 27/10/2026 19:43

Yes always, I'm hungry at those times and have balanced meals. I also have protein and fibre goals that I track and if I don't eat proper meals it's much harder. I don't snack though, maybe a bag of crisps on a Friday night with a glass of wine.

I do 16/8 intermittent fasting and have done it for three years now. It suits me. I don't do it for weight loss, just to maintain a healthy (ish) weight as it is.

Two meals a day and a snack. Breakfast at 11, a snack of Greek yogurt and fruit about 2pm and dinner around 6pm. That's it, kitchen closed! I do break the routine when on hols or for celebrations etc.

I am very rarely hungry. If I am some fruit keeps me going.

Cranx · 27/10/2026 19:47

I find if I have breakfast it makes me hungry for the rest of the day, so I don’t bother and I eat lunch somewhere between 1200-1400 depending on meetings. I eat dinner at around 2100 and that feels like a good spacing of meals throughout the day.

AxolotlEars · 27/10/2026 19:48

I don't eat breakfast. I eat a snack for lunch and then I have dinner in the evening. Mostly no snacking between meals. I got to this point because the earlier I eat in the day, the more I want to eat in the day! Breakfast literally makes me obsessed with food.

Lhori · 27/10/2026 19:49

I eat 3 meals a day and sometimes some snacks. I am not overweight. I am a lot less sedentary than average though. I would have to cut down to lose weight but it is fine for maintaining current weight.

moominontherun · 27/10/2026 19:50

Only on holiday!

Usually I have two meals but what those are varies depending on what I’m doing. It can be any combo really. If I have breakfast and full lunch I don’t usually have a proper dinner. If I don’t have breakfast I’ll have lunch and dinner. Or if I have a decent breakfast I don’t usually have lunch. I do snack though!

Threads like this always bring out the competitive under eaters.

The examples you’ve given OP don’t feel like much food- your breakfast could be a snack, even. I don’t think it’s so much the amount of ‘meals’ you’re eating, but what you’re having at them.

MirrorClocks · 27/10/2026 19:54

I have one meal a day and maybe a snack at work. It’s the only way I’ve been able to lose weight (I’m over 60 and got to the stage where I’ve been slowly gaining weight).

Yeah today wasn’t an amazing day tbh 🤣 other breakfasts I’ve had over the last few days are
-bagel with cream cheese, 2 bacon rashers, tomatoes and tea
-3 scrambled eggs, 1 bacon rasher, tomatoes, and coffee
I actually prefer a warm breakfast but i was I. A rush this morning.

3 meals and at least 3 snacks

calories 1500 to 1800

unless people ate unhealthy - they should eat in a pattern that works for them

Alwaysinacrisis · 27/10/2026 19:59

I haven't eaten breakfast regularly since I was a child, I think they call it "intermittent fasting" these days! I do snack a fair amount though so probably works out about the same.

Your dinner wouldn't be enough for me op, id need some potatoes or something to go with it and probably a yogurt or something added to the brunch. So yes, i would be hungry on what you had

Parky04 · 27/10/2026 20:01

I eat 2. Breakfast at 9 and then dinner at 3. No snacks at all.

MrsClattenburg · 27/10/2026 20:01

I don't eat breakfast as I'd rather save the calories for 2 meals plus a snack before the gym. I stick to 1500 calories (Mon-Fri at least!) and whack up my protein to keep full. It doesn't always work though, I've just had my tea and I'm still hungry... 😫

LintRollers · 27/10/2026 20:01

I’ve been eating two meals a day since I was 11years old and I’m 57 now.

I don’t wake up hungry so I wait until lunchtime which is about 12 o clock.

Gosh some of you are so lucky to maintain with 3 meals and snacks!

I'm 5ft 2 and maintain with 3 meals and loads of snacks. Protein + exercise is your friend (especially lifting weights!)

Sorry I forgot there was a small handful of potato wedges on there too! 🫣 I knew I forgot something

I eat one meal and have for many years.
I has chronic IBS, and this is the best way of keeping it under control.

mylittledoggie · 27/10/2026 20:05

I have 5 meals plus snacks lol. All quite clean / healthy. I run a lot. If I don’t I’m starving and could graze all day.

Ethelspagetti · 27/10/2026 20:07

I used to eat three meals and I got fat. Now I eat two meals which are brunch and early dinner with a small snack in the evening. I look much better now.

Undones · 27/10/2026 20:09

I eat whatever whenever.

Thepinkcup · 27/10/2026 20:11

I can’t eat any less than 3 meals and 2 snacks otherwise I dont have the mental or physical energy to meet my demanding days. I eat around 1700 calories a day

I did 5 small meals a day for a while and loved eating like that, it was just quite a bit of hassle when out and about
