Do you eat 3 meals a day?

I have NC’d for this as I don’t want it linked to my other posts.
I use to eat 3 meals a day. 3 full meals and all I did was put on weight. Now I eat 2 meals and a snack.
In work today and a colleague asked was I not starving.
today I had for brunch (my first meals is at 10ish) - 2 boiled eggs, 2 rice cakes with chocolate spread and peanut butter. And a coffee.
for a snack at 1ish I had a cup of tea and a banana
dinner at 5:45 was a chicken salad with, lettuce, cucumber, olives, onion, tomato’s dressing and Parmesan cheese. Then I had a cup of tea and 4squares of chocolate.

Comment was made by my colleague at lunch time. I’m never really hungry for lunch tbh. I would have a few snacks but today I just wanted the banana. My calorie intake for today was lower than usual at 1390cals. Usually I aim for 1500.

so what do you do? Do you eat three full meals? I find a lot of people have no breakfast at all.

I don’t ever eat breakfast, I have a small healthy lunch then a smallish healthy dinner.

I did 5 small meals a day for a while and loved eating like that, it was just quite a bit of hassle when out and about

yeah I do think it works quite well running just makes me so hungry so I need to make sure I have plenty of carbs and protein. I never really have a big meal / take out etc. so think that makes up for my constant eating! 🙈

Yeah my steps today were 3200 🤣 I don’t do the gym! Not me at all!

I rest my case, I’d done more than that before I had my breakfast today!

I eat one full meal a day, but there are occasions where I'll have two, sometimes on weekends etc. I find this works for me. I'm a very much eat when you're hungry type person, and don't really understand the regimented 3 meals a day of some.
Active and fit too.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 27/10/2026 20:29

3 meals a day + snacks, and slightly underweight, but very stable, don’t yo-yo at all.
Usually something like
Oat based breakfast + some fresh fruit
Salad and crisps for luncH
Slice of toast when I get in from work (always)
Home made meal (always vegetarian always scratch made for dinner, decent portion, always with a carb, usually rice)

well there was no case to rest. I am aware that we are all different. I just don’t get that many steps in. Even though I live in a three story house 🤣

If I ate what you ate I would be starving- currently losing weight on 2300 calories a day- average 15,000-20,000 steps plus 4 good 1 hr strength sessions a week..... (Average weight loss 2kg a week).... I eat 4 meals a day plus a snack- mainly go for volume eating with low carbs, lots of fibre.....

DoAWheelie · 27/10/2026 20:32

One meal a day. Sometimes a sweet snack a couple of hours later if I'm in the mood.

If I eat breakfast im starving all day and end up eating at least twice as much as normal in a day. So now I just wait until I'm hungry and eat once then.

I mean yeah obviously YOU need those calories but I don’t do any exercise tbh..barring the odd walk here and there. I mean my weight can fluctuate up/down 2kg in 24hours tbh…

Not a hope I will be lifting weights! Not for me sorry. Protein I can do 😅

You do know that particularly as a lady- lifting weights (doesn't need to be heavy), reduces risk of falls, fraility and osteoporosis. This is particularly important after the menopause as your levels of calcium tend to deplete..... The world health organisation recommend 150 minutes of activity a week- at least 30 minutes should be strength exercises..... This also reduces risk of injury as well if done well with stretches..... And when I say lifting weights- body weight exercises do count!!! Please think about it.....

I eat one meal and a snack.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/10/2026 20:37

I eat 3 meals and am not overweight, but I don’t normally eat sugary things like chocolate spread unless it’s a weekend treat.

Yeah I do know this but I’m not doing it. I tried it and I hate it. I know…

I don't eat breakfast. I eat a snack for lunch and then I have dinner in the evening. Mostly no snacking between meals. I got to this point because the earlier I eat in the day, the more I want to eat in the day! Breakfast literally makes me obsessed with food.

Why is that you think? Referring to your last phrase. I have never been hungry in the morning- couldn't possibly eat anything. But around 11-12 I'm hungry and eat a large lunch. Then not hungry until around 18ish so intermittent fasting without making an effort because it comes natural.

I’m also about 4 inches taller than you.

cityliving99 · 27/10/2026 20:42

I tend to eat when I am hungry. Some days I eat nearly all day and others hardly at all

Waitingfordoggo · 27/10/2026 20:43

For many decades I didn’t have breakfast so I’d have two meals plus snacks. I’ve fairly recently taken up breakfast so now have three meals plus snacks. I’m not and have never been overweight but I have a fast metabolism and exercise loads. I also eat quite small portions.

PuzzledObserver · 27/10/2026 20:44

I used to eat 3 meals a day. Plus snacking/grazing most evenings, and some days other extras as well. I was morbidly obese.

I now eat two meals (lunch and tea/dinner) most days, and do not snack. I lost 5 stone doing that, plus a generally low carb whole food eating style and some longer (planned) fasts. And kept that weight off for over a year.

Still borderline obese, though, so have added Mounjaro the past couple of months. Am half way to the top of the healthy range.

i expect two meals a day to be my norm going forward.

3squaremeals · 27/10/2026 20:46

Yeah I’m 5ft 2 and weigh 51kg. I also have an underactive thyroid so that probably contributed to my gain.

It depends on what one has for breakfast. Most breakfasts seem to be carb heavy.
I prefer to not eat much carbs.
If the meal I have is rice or pasta based, I'll be craving more carbs.

No and I take all nutritional advice with a large pinch of salt. Food company owners pushing the myth of how much we need to eat to keep their profits high. It's not unprecedented, if you look into it.

Just eat what feels right for you. Don't forget that in order to reduce your physical mass, you have to reduce the energy intake so it's normal you'll feel the effects (hungry / low energy) but it will stabilise as your size does too.

Thepinkcup · 27/10/2026 20:54

For those who eat one meal a day- how many calories is it? I worry that this is just eating disorders talking

It's not the calories, it's what the food is. I eat a lot of veg, some protein, some carbs and a little fat.

I don't think about calories. I think about satiety.

Rayqueen84 · 27/10/2026 20:57

Not deliberately but I hate breakfast and dinner so one cooked meal at teatime occasionally a slice of toast for supper. I don't like sweet foods, puddings etc only like savories. Normal weight. My autism restricts a lot but works for me

ThatPearlCat · 27/10/2026 21:03

2 meals a day has been a revelation for me- skip breakfast but a larger, early lunch and then an early ISH dinner.
Currently in calorie deficit as slightly overweight and losing a pound or so a week.
It works for me as I prefer two more substantial meals where I can add oils, butter etc. I also think breakfast is the easiest thing to skip as I'm always busy in the morning.
