Alright, so who's started eating buying "Christmas" food already?

I'm on my second bag of Lebkuchen 😳

Was "tears ago" a typo, or unexpectedly relevant? :)

I guess it could be both ?

I am itching to buy some stollen bites from aldi. The temptation is killing me. 😩

Just do it! Xmas Grin

shellyleppard · 18/10/2026 09:29

Two very large boxes of ferroro rocher are still intact!!! I'm surprised they normally would have been scoffed by now.
Must have hidden them too well this time 🤣🤣🤣
Won't buy the fancy crisps until nearer the day as these will definitely be scoffed Lol

Help needed, Lidl usually do Lobster flavour crisps but sadly not this year, has anyone seen another shop stock them, it just won’t be Christmas without them.

Oh I looooove lebkuchen so much but the only places that sell them where I live are Aldi and Lidl 😑 and I wouldn't want anybody I know to see me step foot in there. Does anybody know of any premium seller that I can purchase a couple of bags for me and the fam? I really fancy some this year!

Gosh, don’t you prefer to make your own? I couldn’t think of consuming UPF ones! 🤢

I have a chef for that. Wouldn't be seen dead making my own.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 18/10/2026 10:19

I was very firm with myself in Asda yesterday. They've got cinnamon roll tortilla things (crisp type) and I was so tempted.

In the unlikely event you have any left over it makes lovely bread and butter pudding.

That’s a good tip, thank you.

There’s nothing UPF in the Fortnum and Mason ones, I assure you. But if all you can think of is Aldi and Lidl then I can’t help you…

On a tangent, I've been watching some reels with a well-to-do young chap opening F&M's ridiculously expensive Christmas crackers as my algorithms seem intent on showing them to me! I can confirm that they're a waste of money (not that I was ever in the market!). Xmas Grin

I'm sure their food items pass muster, however!

Nothing here!

Tins of chocs have to wait until the kids break up from school, and then everything else is pretty much fair game from Christmas eve onwards.

I had assumed @sprigatito was being sarcastic. I assume you are attempting to be provocative.

I haven't finished the Halloween candy yet .

DilemmaDelilah · 18/10/2026 12:13

Isn't anyone making their own this Christmas? I don't mean chocolates or crisps... but stollen, panettone, Christmas cake, mince pies?

I do make mince pies - Jocelyn (Dimbleby) has a lovely recipe for orange fleur pastry which I use, with good quality bought mincemeat with orange zest mixed in and a glug of sweet sherry (you could use brandy but I prefer sherry).

My only attempt at Christmas cake wasn't very good, despite copious drowning in brandy ☹️. It did look good though.

I use a Good Housekeeping recipe for my mince pies. The mincemeat has cider in and the pastry has orange zest, egg and cream. They're beautiful! 😋

I make Mary Berry's Christmas pudding.

Assume away, if that keeps you happy

Yes. I do a lot of home baking for Christmas. In fact I go all out as it’s my way of remembering when I was a wee girl in Scotland after living abroad for 50 years

No, skipped past the “red box” aisle in Lidl. I’m holding out until November this year otherwise you are fed up with it before December

Speak for yourself 😂

If you are so ridiculously snobbish you deserve to miss out to be honest. You would find a wide range of shoppers in Lidl and Aldi and unless you shop in your fur coat and tiara I am sure you would not stand out.

I think that pp likes saying silly things to get reactions. They will know lebkuchen is German and Lidl & Aldi are German, so why not buy it there. Also no one would actually care if they were in Lidl or Waitrose and they know it.
