Alright, so who's started eating buying "Christmas" food already?

I'm on my second bag of Lebkuchen 😳

We always receive at least two panettone/tonies/tonii (???) over Christmas but they're saved for the summer when my sister comes to stay with us from the USA.
She loves it so we share it then. It's "our" little tradition 😄

Nope, I do not eat any Christmas food before the 1st of December. I will start buying a few bits to put away for Christmas in late October, but I absolutely will not open it. I also don’t buy hot cross buns except at Easter. 🫣

cardibach · 17/10/2026 17:21

Bloody hell t.his is early. My sis has her birthday an ear the end of November ember and so it never got a mention before that. Never used to be difficult to avoid before then anyway. My birthday is near the end of this month - having Christmas stuff about before that is just stupid.

Box of mince pies and a chocolate orange consumed so far. Oh, and some Festive
bourbon biscuits from Sainsbury’s - tiramisu flavour (no idea why they are pinned as festive but they are tasty!).

We have another box of mince pies and two mini panettone’s in the cupboard which I’m sure will be opened shortly.

And I love panettone - so much lighter than a lot of the rich food around at Christmas.

PrincessofEuphrania · 17/10/2026 17:49

Box of Greggs mince pies. Delicious! I hardly ever eat Christmas food before Dec as my birthday is in November and for some reason I can’t really think about Christmas until I’ve celebrated my birthday. But those mince pies were calling out to me!

pndworrysil · 17/10/2026 17:50

Chocolate coins. It’s the same every year 😂

thisoldcity · 17/10/2026 17:55

I bought some chocolate coins for my granddaughter from Lidl and thought I'd better try them to see if they are okay. Good thing I did because they were horrible. Disappointing though, as I was going to eat the lot and re-buy them.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 17/10/2026 17:55

I'm so silly I did not realise malt balls where maltesees

Chocolate coins have been devoured here 😋

Mince pies babe been consumed! All in the name of science of course
Need to know what ones are the best.

I concluded last year that Lidl Deluxe are better than Mr Kipling. Morrisons fresh (short dates) deep filled shortcrust used to be my go to every year but ours has only sold the puff pastry ones for the last three years. Yuck.

ETA Lidl deluxe still a winner and 1 box has been consumed already. Use by date of early November, it's like they just want profits.

We were onc given one - in a tin, probably quite expensive. But it was very dry and unexciting, and most of it ended up going out in the garden for the birds.

Was it at least a nice tin?

LeahCariad · 17/10/2026 18:02

I bought one of those tins of Big Mix from M&S and a couple of other things.

Then I had an overwhelming chocolate craving and cracked open the tin (DH & DD are blissfully unaware of my sneakiness) I'm not sure if being a sneaky chocolate stealer has tainted them, but I wasn't overly impressed with them.

Naturally I have eaten at least one box of mice pies, and a box of florentines because you have to do a taste test.

I'm adding to the stash, but am going to attempt not to eat anything else Christmassy until 1st Dec.

Justaquestionplease · 16/10/2026 20:03

Do people actually eat these? I thought they were just bought as gifts which are then inevitably regifted until the end of time.

My mother in law bought one every year without fail. No one ever ate it. It never even got opened. We still buy one in her honour 😆

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/10/2026 18:10

The Thornton's continental chocolates that I put away have been put away but not in a cupboard ....

Don't like the sound of mice pies 😉 (my favourite ever typo!)

I bought marzipan last week. It's still in its package, but the weekend is young.

Well, don’t condemn them all just because you had one once and it wasn’t very good. The good ones are excellent, preferably from an Italian delicatessen. Vanilla, soft and delicious. I love the ones with canditi in but some people hate that.

Homemade marzipan is in a league of its own 😍

Oh I looooove lebkuchen so much but the only places that sell them where I live are Aldi and Lidl 😑 and I wouldn't want anybody I know to see me step foot in there. Does anybody know of any premium seller that I can purchase a couple of bags for me and the fam? I really fancy some this year!

Edited

Ha that is a hilarious suggestion! Maybe I could, but I think I would stick out in those shops regardless. I don't mean to offend anyone who shops in Lidl or Aldi, I'm sure those shops serve their purpose for a specific clientele. I'm just kind of accustomed to nice things. Somebody did say Waitrose sells lebkuchen so I will try my luck there, but thanks anyway ❤️

ExitPursuedByABare · 17/10/2026 19:21

Still got last year’s stuff in the cupboard. Going away for the first time so won’t be buying anything. Will make my shortbread mincemeat to give out. And cakes are done.
