Alright, so who's started eating buying "Christmas" food already?

I'm on my second bag of Lebkuchen 😳

Do people actually eat these? I thought they were just bought as gifts which are then inevitably regifted until the end of time.

I love panettone. Some are better than others.

sueelleker · 17/10/2026 19:36

I loved the Aldi florentines; there were four different sorts in one box, but they seem to have stopped doing them.

I could happily live on panettone.

I have banned myself from buying Christmas food until halfway through December, because I cannot be trusted.

Not yet - I’m waiting for the Christmas shop.

There was an M&S Merry Munch incident last year. I will not elaborate further.

I must be the only person who dislikes Xmas food!!!

All Christmas food?

IDontLikePinaColadas · 17/10/2026 20:10

Not yet but my copy of Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chronicles is poised for reading and I’m planning what need to be prepped next week / how much space needs clearing in the freezer whilst my fiancé is on jury duty and I have the house to myself for two weeks (we both wfh full time so this is a rarity!)

Oh I looooove lebkuchen so much but the only places that sell them where I live are Aldi and Lidl 😑 and I wouldn't want anybody I know to see me step foot in there. Does anybody know of any premium seller that I can purchase a couple of bags for me and the fam? I really fancy some this year!

Edited

whats wrong with Aldi all the influencers go there it’s quite trendy these days

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · 17/10/2026 22:01

@DebbieSavage When I visit a friend in Zurich we drive across the border into Germany and fill everything we have with items from Aldi and Lidl. It’s really good. Also, my family members who are pilots have been known to come home with extra luggage from Aldo and Lidl in Germany.

Im out and proud when it comes to Aldi and Lidl when Im in the UK and Germany.

Rodneyreindeer · 17/10/2026 22:10

I’ve bought loads, I buy anything that comes on sale that we like. I hide it around the house and don’t tell anyone though until December.

morbidcuriosity · 17/10/2026 22:55

Ive resisted the Lebkuchen in lidls twice now.. I like the dark chocolate hearts.. I will get a pack but gonna try resist longer!!

I’ve eaten a small one this week, they are so nice toasted with melted butter.

I used to think that then tried one and I liked it. I buy one every year now. I do seem to be the only one who eats it though, but I’m not complaining.

Sunday morning, coffee, panettone. 😋

FridgeJenga · 18/10/2026 07:48

I've taste tested both Lidl and Aldi's
(apologies @DebbieSavage 😆)
dark chocolate lebkuchen hearts and in my humble opinion, Aldi wins.
BUT the dark chocolate ones there are always gone first, there's loads of milk chocolate bags though.
I will endeavour to try more... in the name of research you understand!

You know posting in a non serious and sometimes silly way is completely different to trolling right?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2026 08:20

I use my Waitrose bags when going into Lidl or Aldi as a reminder to all those who see me,that it's not really my place.
I get a buzz from this.

Re lebkuchen the problem is it's out now and will be gone soon so you have to get it ! I remember tears ago innocently going to one early December keen bean to get some and all the shelves were empty /long gone.
So get in early.

Empress13 · 18/10/2026 08:21

I just might have had a glass of mulled wine last night 🙊

TheoreticallyAdult · 18/10/2026 08:39

DH had an M&S Bubbly Santa and I had the peanut butter reindeer yesterday.

We’re trying to pace ourselves.

bababamama · 18/10/2026 08:47

No, skipped past the “red box” aisle in Lidl. I’m holding out until November this year otherwise you are fed up with it before December

Was "tears ago" a typo, or unexpectedly relevant? :)

In the unlikely event you have any left over it makes lovely bread and butter pudding.

susiedaisy1912 · 18/10/2026 09:17

I am itching to buy some stollen bites from aldi. The temptation is killing me. 😩

There was an M&S Merry Munch incident last year. I will not elaborate further.

I’ve snaffled a whole bag of Merry Munch while watching late night TV this week. Thinking I’ll bulk it out with some extra pretzels when I refill the tin to save me eating so much chocolate!

I have a tiny kitchen so nowhere to hide Xmas food if I buy it now, and all the spare space has gone on long life foods thanks to all the prepping threads on here, so we’ll be fine for packet soup and tinned food but not much room for fancy festive bits!

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/10/2026 09:19

We don't usually have biscuits in the house but DH has been buying the dark chocolate slightly salty pretzels from Lidl. They are irresistible.

Ha that is a hilarious suggestion! Maybe I could, but I think I would stick out in those shops regardless. I don't mean to offend anyone who shops in Lidl or Aldi, I'm sure those shops serve their purpose for a specific clientele. I'm just kind of accustomed to nice things. Somebody did say Waitrose sells lebkuchen so I will try my luck there, but thanks anyway ❤️

If you are so ridiculously snobbish you deserve to miss out to be honest. You would find a wide range of shoppers in Lidl and Aldi and unless you shop in your fur coat and tiara I am sure you would not stand out.
