People should go through training before they are allowed to own a dog, and a home check. Same with children.

Men age better than women, on average. Mem can often still look good well into their sixties and seventies, although a lot don't. Women very rarely do. I am a woman btw.

Really? That is the complete opposite of what I see.

By their 40's most men are losing their hair, have far more wrinkles as they don't use spf, and more than a little start growing a paunch/tits. Not to mention the flagging erections. There are some rare exceptions but hardly the norm.

In contrast, most women I know are taking exceptionally good care of their skin, weight and hair long into their older years. And if anything, their sex drive increases as they get older.

Countessgrey · 14/10/2026 07:19

A few more controversial ones -

Running makes women look older

If one is a SAHM, you can’t expect your partner to take on 50 percent of domestic chores when they’re out earning all the money

In London, the majority of private schools are going to provide a better quality of education than the majority of state schools.

I’d say the UK as a whole rather than just wales and Scotland. England has some beautiful places too - look at Cornwall and Devon in the summer and you could think you’re in the Caribbean! I’ve not been to NI but imagine that’s got beautiful places to visit too. Cities like Bath are also great fun, vibrant, lots to do.

We wouldn't go back to Cornwall because we experienced racism there. We've been to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland - not the tiniest bit of prejudice. Absolutely lovely people and places.

I wouldn’t either. Cornwall is heaving with people. Scotland is beautiful and relatively empty. Win win.

That's strange, we love Cornwall. We go pretty much every summer!

Always have a friendly welcome and the locals loved fussing over the dc when they were younger.

  1. I don’t really understand, Gender is a thing.
  2. You hate dogs. Good for you. You should move to Pakistan.
  3. Take your own advice
  4. Western countries are more than making up for it by basically allowing free immigration to the detriment of the inhabitants of western countries. You know Africa and Persia had its own internal slave trades that were arguably far worse?
  5. Agreed
  1. You'd need to define a 'thing'. Gender has no material existence.
  2. Wouldn't move that far away from my core family.
  3. Obviously I do follow this advice but protecting the rights of women to have access to safe terminations is a hill I'll falter on.
  4. Western countries haven't touched the sides of making up for their extraction of people and resources around the world.
  5. Noted

But overall it doesn't matter your views. These are the things that are important to me and my values.

  • many conspiracy theories have a grain of truth about them!!
  • weight loss jabs are not a good idea for anyone except the seriously overweight
  • people who don’t like dogs are not to be trusted (sorry)
  • Botox crosses the brain blood barrier and we don’t fully know what that means yet
  • you can’t actually change your gender, biologically speaking
Puddlewoman · 14/10/2026 07:39

If main stream agents wont publish your book theres probably a good reason. Just because you can write doesn't mean it's good. Also Celebrity authors 9 times out of 10 are shite looking at you Mr Osmond your books are the literary equivalent of a flatline

Why is it strange? Don't you believe it?
I'm glad you had a positive experience. We didn't.

Conspiracy theories do not have a grain of truth.

FeralFucker · 14/10/2026 07:42

The moon landings were not fake, you silly sausages.
Kids should not be fat, someone is shoving bad food in their gobs. I am very old and went to a secondary modern school in a poor neighbourhood, none of the kids were fat, there was maybe one slightly plump kid per class.
Old people are not annoying, we birthed you, fed you, read to you, raised you, loved you unconditionally and spent most of our money on you. Have a bit of tolerance for our elderly difference.

Just to point 4.

Why only Western countries?

The trans-saharan slave trade was estimated to have trafficked 9 million people. Why do the Mulim traders get off scot free?

Or the Indian Ocean slave trade, estimated to have affected 12 million people? Are you asking the eastern countries to redress the balance too?

The Barbary slave trade affected around a million people in Italy, France , Spain the UK and Ireland. Is North Africa going to be expected to pay out?

The Islamic empire conquered over 40 countries, it might not have as fancy a name as 'colonialisim' but the effects were far worse.

CheetahsAreGreatMums · 13/10/2026 21:11

What do you suggest in place for adults with disabilities who can't work? Make them homeless and let them starve to death?

No, but something that's mean tested and not so open to abuse. The people I know who claim PIP absolutely would not be homeless or starve without it. One works full time and earns more than me (and I'm not at imminent risk of homelessness or starvation) and the young people I know literally tell me their PIP's come in so they're off to get a new tattoo, which they then do. It's not fit for purpose and it's huge waste of money.

I remember when people on here were constantly saying that about J K Rowling, till she became a feminist heroine.

That school isn’t really that important. Learning is. Having friends is. But the ‘every school day counts’ concept is weird brainwashing and not a thing in a bunch of well adjusted, modern countries that have better academic results and happiness rates than we do.

PussyGaylore · 14/10/2026 08:06

It’s not a hill I would die on but if you do the proper research ( dig beyond the obvious) there is circumstantial evidence the first landing may have been faked but I’m not sure one way or the other or that bothered.
I would definitely die in the hill of ‘you can’t change sex’ though.

FlyingApple · 13/10/2026 15:07

Basically, when you get a tattoo, you're putting chemicals and tiny particles into your body that aren't meant to be there. Some of that ink also gets into your lymph nodes. Your body tries to get rid of them but can't so it ends up constantly reacting to something it can't remove. That causes inflammation and extra pressure on your immune system for the rest of your life. Likely contributes to cancer too.

A young friend who has rheumatoid arthritis was told by her specialist that it was probably triggered by having a large tattoo.

There’s not much difference between the two that I am aware of, Sarah Ockwell-Smith (the author of the gentle parenting books) mentions authoritative and as far as I know they are aligned. I agree with the core values of both, it’s more about the approach than exact instructions of what to do. Gentle parenting does get confused often with passive parenting which it is very different from and I don’t agree with.

For hitting always safety first move them away, separate them in a safe way, stay calm and encourage other ways to express anger (it is ok to be angry but not ok to hit), model calmness, breathing etc. The best way to teach is to model - which is not instant but works over time (like I say it’s long game). Homework give them option of when to do it: now or in 10 minutes or suggest something to do after homework and/or do in short bursts. Essentially working out what works best for them. Brushing teeth do you want to do it or I do it, choosing toothbrush/toothpaste, making it fun/game, pretending to be blinded by how clean they are she finds it hilarious. Most of the time these things work and take the pressure off. I try to give her more control in things that aren’t as important so there’s less resistance with the non negotiables.

Right, so you were lucky enough to have a compliant child.
Not everyone is, and consequences are necessary and, when smaller, limited force (brushing their teeth for them if they won't).
You were just lucky your "gentle" methods worked.
"Encouraging" to find other ways to express anger is just as much use as a chocolate fireguard with a lot of children.

We've had this exact thread before, and it just ends up with lots of really offensive opinions.

I'll pass.

People who take the time to click on, read and then post that "they will pass", are eejits.

There are two Generation Es (Entitled) those born 1940 - 1955 and 1992 - 2000

There are 2 sexes and us older people have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into thinking we are wrong when we have voiced this. Luckily I see the tide turning with younger people voicing their irritation at the whole debacle.

JKR and Ricky Gervais are correct

Dog owners are generally lazy and dirty

Porn is the scourge of the devil, the breakdown for so many relationships and the only addiction people can never truly rid themselves of.

Paul Hollywood is extremely unattractive

I have RA, no tattoos and one of the highest readings ever seen (879) at its worst.

My DD doesn't have RA but has tattoos.

I've been told to keep away from tomatoes and potatoes but never the ink!
