If anything, it shows the shocking state of mental health and adult care provision. He was alone for long enough to get into the enclosure at the very least. ‘Care’ in the community? Or under the radar enough that the clearly needed help was not forthcoming in the run up to this sad incident

Are you seeking to retrain as a care worker?

Lizzysunshine · 10/10/2026 19:10

From what I’ve seen, it looks like this poor man had learning disabilities. It looks like he’s using Makaton to tell the tiger no. If this is the case, where on earth were the carers?!
my son has severe learning disabilities and things like this absolutely terrify me for when I’m no longer here. My heart goes out to his family.

Allthepictureframes · 10/10/2026 19:12

Tigers shouldn’t be in Doncaster. They are not “entertainment” or some kind of “fun, family day out”. They are wild animals, that deserve to be in their natural habitat of Asia. Exploitation has led to some poor man, who cannot have been in his right mind, being killed by a tiger today. Not the tigers fault, it was doing what it does.

No. But that doesn’t mean that society has failed this young man if indeed it turns out that learning difficulties were are part of this

Very few people want to work as carers, for the same reason you probably don’t. Low pay, high chance of being attacked, not an enjoyable job if you are caring for somebody aggressive and mentally unstable and in particular men.

Yes, no doubt witnessed by lots of people, including children, who will be very traumatized. It's sad for the man and his family, it is also an incredibly selfish way to harm yourself.

Sorry, but I really hate when people say this. It’s the exact same when someone is killed by a train and I find it so gross.

We don’t actually know who this man was, why he was “agitated”, why “enquiries” are being made to find his family (he came alone?), whether he had SEN or serious MH Issues.

Death by tiger is not a normal way to take your own life, and he didn’t appear to be behaving in a normal way from the videos and witness descriptions.

This man definitely chose to die in a prolonged, public and painful way because he’s just selfish and wanted to upset people. That’s definitely the most most likely explanation.

The same as the incident earlier in the year where the lad with learning difficulties threw the young child into the crocodile enclosure, what the hell were the carers doing at the time?

I work in adult social care and it breaks my heart when I see people in care not being properly watched over, I've seen many carers taking their service users out in to the community and spending half the time on their phones.

This is really sad and shouldn’t have been possible. The last thing to rely on in health and safety is people following rules or remembering things, he shouldn’t have been able to get in.

It’s heartbreaking, the poor lad must have been terrified when the tiger started attacking 😢

Why would you jump to the conclusion the man chose death by tiger?

I don’t disagree. But none of that helps this young man, the staff, the onlookers or even the tiger.
The fix cannot be allowing him enough freedom to harm himself

I think that poster was being sarcastic in response to the poster.

They’re saying it’s very unlikely that he chose to end his life in such a horrific way.

dustabsorber · 10/10/2026 19:17

At least he didn't throw a small child in, like earlier in the year with the toddler who was thrown to the crocs.

There will have to be some kind rules regarding people with severe MH problems at zoos then.

How do you police that?

Nobody has to share a diagnosis of anything to get zoo tickets.

Do we need to get to the point where you have to disclose your lack of MH concerns, or you’re not getting in?

See I knew carers would be blamed. Carer is most likely a woman on minimum wage unable to restrain an adult male. Blame the health care system instead. It is very sad what happened. This man was clearly having some kind of episode. As a mother of a severely autistic child anyone who is going on about the safety of the tiger but unable to feel a shred of compassion at the same time for a human being who died, just remember how lucky you are that you and your children live a normal life and that this won't ever affect you.

IzzyLeng · 10/10/2026 19:20

Ok, if you get evacuated out the park in such circumstances do you get a refund? It’s very expensive to go there.

ItsPickleRick · 10/10/2026 19:21

Mooselove · 10/10/2026 19:02

It would be very very difficult to get into the tiger enclosure but I guess if someone is stupid enough to want to they can manage it.

Yorkshire Wildlife is a brilliant wildlife park and deeply concerned with conservation.

Absolutely right.

Most of their animals are rescued from appalling conditions, they are not a typical zoo
