Those zoos and wildlife parks need to rethink their enclosures. It should be virtually impossible for the public to access these areas. I'm not saying it's the parks fault or the tigers but to stop these incidents from happening.

But that would involve covering the enclosures as well with mesh or similar, is it really fair for animals to not even see the sky? Their sense of nature is already depleted.

Imagine the family of this man read the comments. They're already probably feeling destroyed and seeing cruel comments would be horrible.

I doubt his family are reading about his death here or anywhere else today.

Isn't your username a bit tactless in the circumstances?

I've been there many times and it's not an easy enclosure to get into. I was amazed he wasn't hurt by the jump into it, the viewing area is high, after he had got past 2 fences. You would hope fencing aside the face there is also a deadly animal in there would be deterrent
The fences are there to keep the animals in and they are very high.

placemats · 11/10/2026 13:50

Why are people looking at videos depicting someone being killed by a wild animal in an enclosure? And then declaring that the person killed is "stupid"?

What exactly is this thread about anyway 🤔

I'm not being unpleasant; I just think this is health and safety on overdrive. We all make small decisions about how to live every few hours of our lives. You, me, they... we all make decisions every few minutes about how to live.

MN is inclined to view choices from the perspective of people with toddlers, who should naturally be forcibly prevented from climbing into tiger enclosures. But we can't eliminate all the risks for everyone.

Correct

No one knows if he had LD, but lets assume he did

Lets assume he had a DOLs and had carers

Lets assume he was utterly utterly obsessed with tigers and big cats and talked incessantly about being with them, wanting to cuddle them, being in an eclosure, perhaps had tried it before, etc etc

Any risk assessment would probably result in a decision not to take him to a wildlife park but perhaps do a different activity instead, just incase he decided to cause a problem, a scene or in fact try to climb in

On the other hand, lets assume this man is either not on a DOLs or that he had no such overt obsession and the risk of him climbing in to the enclosure was entirely unpredictable

Then it is no ones fault

I particularly love some of the comments here that he has been 'failed' - we could only say that if indeed he needed care or DOLs and that he had an obsession and history of dangerous behaviour like this.

And someone else makes the comment that someone with an IQ of less than 80 shouldnt be allowed out!!!

You're right that his family are not likely to be reading rubbish like this thread (including my own comments) but do you think someoen chagnes their user name according to each thread or something?

shuggles · 11/10/2026 13:20

It should go without saying that the tiger shouldn't be killed. The tiger simply did what all tigers do, which is to attack a human that got too close. If this tiger had to be killed, it would logically follow that all tigers should be killed, which of course would make no sense.

I'm not sure how the man died though. In the video, the tiger hardly touches him and he looks fine.

There has been no suggestion the tiger has been or should be killed :/ it is completely fine
And has it not occurred to you that the man was killed after the video you saw? Who am I to expect logical thinking though.

You’d be very surprised at what people who have lost someone in tragic circumstances do at 2am when they can’t sleep. I know because I’ve been that person.

It was national news in my case just like this one. We all saw what was being written. This thread and news articles with awful comments will be top hits if and when a family member does decide to search.

YWP is a wildlife park, not a zoo as some keep describing it.

Thelittleweasel · 11/10/2026 13:57

BBC says it was fatal. I'm sure others will expand...

There will have to be some kind rules regarding people with severe MH problems at zoos then.

No

There doesn't need to be restrictions on people with disabilities.

Society needs to adapt to make things accessible for disabled people.

An attraction needs to be made safe so that can't happen. There needs to be no risk of someone climbing in & security to intervene or call emergency services if someone attempts to break in.

If the zoo is not accessible & safe to everyone including disabled people then the zoo needs to close or be restricted, not the other way around.

Look up 'ableism' & 'disability discrimination'

shuggles · 11/10/2026 13:58

A number of earlier posts incorrectly reported that the tiger had been killed, before it was confirmed that the tiger was fine.

There is no such thing as no risk. Risk exists, it can be mitigated to some extent, but unless the plan is for people with LD, extreme MH or ND to be locked up 27/7 then risk exists.

Most empowerment of service users is achieved by accepting that there will be risk and there may be harm, you try to risk assess around it but nothing has NO risk at all. That sort of mindset is unrealistic and dangerous in itself.

Idiot. 🤬

Really???? This is your first thought? I was thinking, what could be going on in this man's mind to make him do such a crazy thing. Mental health problems maybe?

danniT2 · 11/10/2026 14:02

It’s such a sad reflection of society that people’s immediate reactions to this news was to either blame the man/call him a moron/say he deserved it or use the opportunity to try and get a cheap laugh via a crap joke or meme.

It’s obvious to anyone with half a brain that nobody in their right mind would jump in there just as a joke. But people speculated and were needlessly cruel regardless. The internet is a cesspit that allows the absolute dregs from society to spread their hateful bile and misinformation. I would honestly be so ashamed to be that kind of person.

They were all taking bollocks. Repeating things other people had made up. Sorry but it’s so maddening. I saw on Facebook comments yesterday (much more of a cesspit than this thread), people were stating things as fact because had had read it in a previous comment! Absolutely ridiculous. So many reports were full of comments that the tiger had been ‘shot dead’ by an actual bullet. Nothing of the kind happened.

Squidgoals · 11/10/2026 14:04

One of the things that horrifies me about this is that people filmed the man being mauled and then posted the videos on social media. With sound. It continued to be distributed after we knew he had died. I was scrolling Snapchat last night and there it was, no warning, and I’m fuming that I was subjected to even a split second of it. It’s fucking ghoulish

I've only been to one Safari park in recent years. And the tiger enclosure viewing was behind glass. I don't think even the most determined person could have got in.

I visit YWP quite regularly and the fences are very high and look virtually impossible to breach, although I have no doubt that the park will review this. The walkway is very high as well and anyone who tried to jump down would probably break a leg.

I live near a high footbridge over the M1 and the motorway is closed on a regular basis because someone has threatened to jump or has, sadly, jumped. Should we be blaming the council for not putting a cage over it?

That is outrageous isn't it. I can't imagine ever doing that. 'Oooh, let's film the man getting killed and then put it on Facebook and YouTube.'

That's 22 carat Psychopath behaviour.

BubblingBobbling · 11/10/2026 14:10

The whole thing is an absolute tragedy whatever was going on in this poor young man's life and my heart goes out to his family but what I'm really struggling with is the amount of people who stood there filming such an God awful event and then happily posting on sm without giving a single thought to this man's family who will have to live with the fact that his demise will be forever available to view on the internet, how macabre and disgusting.

And given this is a family venue where the majority of people would have been there with their dc, were they stood there filming whilst their little ones watched in horror.

I despair of human beings at times.

A child would not be able to attend this attraction alone as it would not be safe for them to do so. Therefore if an adult has the mental age of a child then surely they shouldn’t be able to attend alone. I don’t think that’s ableism or disability discrimination.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 11/10/2026 14:16

I can undetstand how the videos came about.. filming the tigers, than the man climbs in, you dont know whats going fo happen. But posting them online is inexcusable. They should have just been oassed to the authorities.

Monty36 · 11/10/2026 14:18

The police have asked that videos they are aware are circulating on line are not shared.
