It should go without saying that the tiger shouldn't be killed. The tiger simply did what all tigers do, which is to attack a human that got too close. If this tiger had to be killed, it would logically follow that all tigers should be killed, which of course would make no sense.

I'm not sure how the man died though. In the video, the tiger hardly touches him and he looks fine.

I think we must have seen the video at the beginning of what happened

Other people have said there were other videos showing him being bit I think?

Thankfully I've not seen any like that

Mossyfox · 11/10/2026 13:26

Those zoos and wildlife parks need to rethink their enclosures. It should be virtually impossible for the public to access these areas. I'm not saying it's the parks fault or the tigers but to stop these incidents from happening.

MyEasterBonnet · 11/10/2026 13:27

I’m confused with all the people kicking off on social media saying the tiger will get out down. Firstly, they’ve said it won’t get put down. But secondly, why would they ever put a tiger down when someone has broken into the pen? It’s not like a dog being vicious running the streets and getting put down; of course a tiger will bite if someone climbs in, it’s not a danger to the public to need out down.

Secretseverywhere · 11/10/2026 13:29

JustAnotherWhinger · 10/10/2026 20:28

Yep, all the tiger attack headlines are misleading.

When I saw the first one earlier I thought/assumed one of the tigers had got out somehow. Says a lot for press standards now though.

I’d agree. I’ve not seen any videos (not on social media) but would of assumed from the headline a tiger had gotten out.

It’s a real shame for his family. I do think places like this are often used and recommended for regular days out for adults with care needs. Limited exits, accessible loos, entertainment, fairly cheap per visit if you buy an annual pass and go regularly. Possibly there needs to be more robust risk assessment by carers (paid or family) as to whether the venue is safe for this person. Obviously it’s a balancing act as you don’t want to hinder access.

I suspect the inquest will find that it’s all very unfortunate but ultimately death by misadventure and no one to blame.

Tarpaulin over the tiger enclosure (I assume over something in the enclosure). sounds like the tiger has been killed. Tragic.

Thankfully, the tiger is absolutely fine, however the man died from injuries. Apparently he was in a group of men who were all acting up and taunting the animals all day, no he didn’t deserve to die but anyone would defend their territory if someone was trespassing on it

It only takes one claw swipe or small bite in the wrong place to kill. Even the seemingly gentle playing by the tiger will have been doing damage.

Not to mention probable injuries from the height of the fences jumped over to get into the enclosure in the first place.

There is a second video which has unfortunately been circulating online of the man being killed by the tiger. He is grabbed around the throat (typical tiger behaviour) and then the tiger attacks his spine which then causes his death.

The man clearly has learning disabilities and is using the makaton sign for "very bad" at one point.

I am so glad the tiger was not shot but it does raise some questions about whether the man had carers with him and if he did and managed to run away from them, whether trips like this should be curtained for everyone's safety.

OtterlyAstounding · 11/10/2026 13:29

Well, I'm glad the tiger is fine, at least. I feel terrible for the people who saw it unfold though. And of course, I feel for the man and his family. Whether he had some sort of special needs, or was just a dickhead addled by drugs who decided to taunt a tiger, that would've been a very nasty way to go.

Some of the comments are ridiculous- what would they say, who would they blame, if someone chose to jump off a bridge or mountain?

As one of those who has actually been to the park I know it is managed in a highly competent way.

Totally agree. I am getting annoyed at some of the comments on facebook blaming the park. Me and DH go a lot and we know how high the fences are and how difficult it would be to get over them. Of course if someone is determined they can get in the enclosure.

I really hope that the park do not see a drop in visitors because of this. They are a fantastic wildlife park and all the keepers we have ever spoken to (and it's quite a lot) seem so committed to caring for the animals.

sittingonabeach · 11/10/2026 13:29

I also have to question who videos someone being mauled by a tiger, but I guess there are enough posters on here who have watched them closely enough to be able to work out what he was signing, so there is an appetite for such videos

Superhansrantowindsor · 11/10/2026 13:30

I’m so sick of people on this site diagnosing people with SEN on the basis of hardly any information at all. I said as much on a post yesterday on a separate topic.
it’s irrelevant anyway. A person has died and the world is gloating. It doesn’t matter if he was SEN, high, drunk or just stupid. I feel sorry for him and his family.

Those zoos and wildlife parks need to rethink their enclosures. It should be virtually impossible for the public to access these areas. I'm not saying it's the parks fault or the tigers but to stop these incidents from happening.

It is virtually impossible but if someone is determined it can be done as shown yesterday.

There is another video doing the rounds as well which is shorter but the tiger definitely does more to him than the video of him raising his finger to the tiger.

Unfortunately I came across it by accident and the signs are very clear I didn’t need to watch closely to see it as I’m a carer and use makaton plus my baby has special needs and we are teaching it.

Considering this forum is called mums.net and assuming most of us have children I am absolutely disgusted at the comments. Someone’s
child died today.

I feel the same. Since joining this website, I honestly feel like I’ve seen the worst of mums and the worst of women. It had shifted my view of humanity a bit tbh, and of women, who perhaps foolishly I held to a higher standard. I stopped looking at Twitter because it was a Nazi fest but I’m thinking looking at mumsnet is bad for mental health too.

RIP to that poor man and his family. Those of us who love people with learning difficulties understand.

It's not one or the other, you know. Caring about animals whilst demonstrating a complete lack of emotional intelligence when it comes to humans destroys any credibility you might have.

It is virtually impossible at YWP. In fact, when I first heard it had happened yesterday my first thought was how? Due to how high the fences are and then the electric fence too if my memory is correct, it's been a while to be fair.

I think if someone is determined, they will find a way unfortunately.

Bigcat25 · 11/10/2026 13:39

Imagine the family of this man read the comments. They're already probably feeling destroyed and seeing cruel comments would be horrible.

I knew it would be bad on here but the lack of humanity many show is incredibly disturbing. I don't know how society can survive with such people in it.

You are assuming the posters are women, incels have been known to post and stir up trouble. Although the attitude to people here with mental health difficulties have been shocking of late. I've been around for 20ish years and I'm just about done.

Tbf it was hard to avoid on Twitter although it doesn't show him being killed. Initially I didn't know what had happened and thought it was AI.

Yes it just played in my feed. The one I saw, it looks like the tiger backs off at the end of the clip, so I was relieved for the man, and very shocked and saddened when I learned he'd died. There's a second, worse clip that I'm carefully avoiding.

I’ve been here a few times as I live close, I can’t work out how he has got in. It’s high fencing all of the way round and you can walk over a bridge to see in. The bridge. Has a high barrier and then electrical fencing between. I wouldn’t be able to get over that, but if I did the drop alone into the enclosure would cause a severe injury.

While I agree that this is a sad news piece, and people shouldn't gloat that a man was killed... Literally everyone in the world is someone's child, and I'm not about to get all sentimental over every human ever because they (obviously and unavoidably) have parents, and I also happen to have children. That's just silly.

Agreed.

The fencing is energised and surrounds the enclosure. I’m almost certain that beyond the fencing is netting too, although I could be mixed up with another enclosure.

It is absolutely a safe park, but if someone is determined there will be a way in. The enclosures are primarily designed to keep animals in, not to keep humans out.
