I agree the tiger didn’t deserve to be hurt but the comments about the man especially those gloating over his death are fucking gross.

Truly cunts walk among us. I sometimes wonder if we've actually moved on from the baying crowds at hangings/going to see a hanging for entertainment

We have absolutely no idea that this man had SEN. If someone decides it’s a good idea to jump into a tiger enclosure, then they are pretty much high SEN, and would not be out and about without a carer. Reports suggest he was with another man and they were both shouting out and taunting the tigers prior to the victim jumping in. Maybe he was under the mis apprehension that the tiger would be tame. Some people do think that animals hand reared by humans in zoos would not attack humans because they’re used to them, and are getting their needs met by them. Maybe the guy was drunk or high on drugs? Seems people on here are determined already that he has SEN. That’s not necessarily the case, so perhaps best to see what transpires over the next couple of days.

Edited

From the video it's pretty obvious IMO. He acts confused instead of scared at the tiger attacking him. That is not how non SEN person would act.

So please, provide your preferred euphemism... I know many people prefer not to mention intellectual inadequacy, but it exists. What should we call it, to avoid being lambasted?

Disabled? HTH

I’m aware it exists. It lives in my house.

Terminology already exists, try using it.

I've reported also some of these comments are truly disgusting.

ItsPickleRick · 11/10/2026 11:33

I see the park have released a statement confirming that Altai won’t be euthanised, which I’m pleased about.

I feel so very sad for the young man and his family, I agree that there is evidence of SEN and I don’t even want to imagine how he felt in there.

Some of these comments are utterly disgusting.

The correct terminology is very easy to find.

It is not our job to educate the ignorant.

Gosh I've never known a thread be reinstated before.

I've seen quite a few reinstated!

Who the hell watches the video of a man being killed by a tiger?

I think it should be removed from social media. Really disturbing.

Same ones as want to watch the upcoming firing squad execution I would guess.

WimbyAce · 11/10/2026 12:14

I thought there must be a thread on this somewhere. A lot on social media now blaming the park as to how he was able to get in to the enclosure and that they should have someone on "standby" 24/7 with a gun for these kind of eventualities. My mind is blown! In my mind if someone thinks it is ok to climb a fence to jump in with a large carnivorous mammal then a wildlife park is not the place for them.

Tbf it was hard to avoid on Twitter although it doesn't show him being killed. Initially I didn't know what had happened and thought it was AI.

No one on Mumsnet can accurately give you an euphemism because none of us know this man's circumstances. The poor guy died in tragic circumstances and I cannot imagine the hell that his family are going through. Why not just leave it at that?

Edited for typo

Mooselove · 10/10/2026 20:39

The fencing is more than adequate. If some is absolutely determined to go into an enclosure, for whatever reason, it can almost always be done.

Stop blaming the Park

Some of the comments are ridiculous- what would they say, who would they blame, if someone chose to jump off a bridge or mountain?

As one of those who has actually been to the park I know it is managed in a highly competent way.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 10/10/2026 19:18

There will have to be some kind rules regarding people with severe MH problems at zoos then.

How would those rules be policed? I suppose there could be some kind of multiple choice intelligence test at the entry point, but it would slow down the queue, and someone would put the correct answers on the internet within minutes.

fatphalange · 11/10/2026 12:55

Yesterday marked the day I realised once and for all that society has gone to complete shit. Straight away Facebook filled up with vile comments about the man…..is it not fucking OBVIOUS that there would be some mental health or disability involved? Most likely disability. And even then so many mindless idiots saying things like ‘well I’ve got a mental illness and I wouldn’t do that’…well done on failing to realise not everyone is the same? No critical thinking at all. It seems to have gone out of the window entirely.
That poor man and his poor family :(

He looks like he’s using the makaton sign for bad rather than pointing.

Exactly what I thought. It definitely looks like Makaton because it’s not a natural hand position otherwise. Moreover, his reactions to the tiger looked like he didn’t fully understand the danger he was in nor why the tiger was ‘disobeying’ him.

Surely he was accompanied by a carer or carers? Where were they?

Poor man.

Yesterday there were reports that he was with someone however on some video footage he apparently can be heard asking strangers to take his picture so maybe he was alone.

Exactly. Do people seriously think those with certain conditions should be banned?

The onus should be on carers, friends and family to maintain safety but even so in those with any kind of capacity they cannot be watched constantly.

It is obviously a horrible, tragic incident but I'm really not sure how you can mitigate for every single potential situation other than very high fences whicn I presume was the case here. Still will not 100% stop those intent on entering an enclosure.

Thoughts with his family and friends and those who attended the scene, just horrific.

shuggles · 11/10/2026 13:20

It should go without saying that the tiger shouldn't be killed. The tiger simply did what all tigers do, which is to attack a human that got too close. If this tiger had to be killed, it would logically follow that all tigers should be killed, which of course would make no sense.

I'm not sure how the man died though. In the video, the tiger hardly touches him and he looks fine.
