Tigers are even more dangerous than lions. I wonder how he was able to get into the enclosure. Maybe it's time to stop keeping these animals for viewing by the public.

A tiger shouldn't be in a zoo anyway. They roam far and wide. Even a big enclosure is going to be tiny to them.

Livelovebehappy · 10/10/2026 21:53

We have absolutely no idea that this man had SEN. If someone decides it’s a good idea to jump into a tiger enclosure, then they are pretty much high SEN, and would not be out and about without a carer. Reports suggest he was with another man and they were both shouting out and taunting the tigers prior to the victim jumping in. Maybe he was under the mis apprehension that the tiger would be tame. Some people do think that animals hand reared by humans in zoos would not attack humans because they’re used to them, and are getting their needs met by them. Maybe the guy was drunk or high on drugs? Seems people on here are determined already that he has SEN. That’s not necessarily the case, so perhaps best to see what transpires over the next couple of days.

If someone has a capacity of a toddler but the body and strength of an adult man then you can’t take them to animal parks. There are lots of places in ywp you could hurt the animals as they are allowed to roam around and aren’t caged up. It isn’t somewhere you should be taking someone who has no control over their behaviour and who cannot be controlled by others due to their strength and size. As are loads of other places.

The world can’t be made adult-sized toddler-proofed. I don’t understand why this is controversial. This man died because he was somewhere he couldn’t be safe. That isn’t the park’s fault, it could never be a wildlife park and completely risk free for an adult who doesn’t understand risk.

No one has blamed the park or the tiger. Go back. Read again and then try and answer with something a tad more respectful.

I don’t understand why normal people struggle to feel empathy anymore. I’d understand if he’d jumped in with a knife and tried to kill it!! But he didn’t. There is more to this.

ByAgileBrickGoose · 10/10/2026 21:50

Actually you can not exclude them from this type of place either. As a support worker myself there should have been risk assessments done and most likely 2:1 or 1:1 staffing but you simply can not exclude people from doing normal things. We don’t run institutions care should be prison centered.

As harsh as it sounds, I truly think there may be some validity in excluding people from a select number of activities for their own safety.
We shouldn’t feel we have to shut that conversation down without discussion at least as a society.
everyone involved today will have their lives changed by this. Staff, unwilling onlookers, the family . If carers or even worse family were involved in him getting away from them, the guilt they will feel must be horrific. And lifelong.
perhaps some situations are just not tenable for some individuals

He was a drunk or high man who knew the Makaton for “bad” and assumed the tiger also knew Makaton, then.

I think it’s really sad on so many levels . I feel for the family and not just for the loss of their loved one but this thread and SM posts just show that mentally disabled people just aren’t valued and are less than . Some posts are unbelievable. No harm should come to wild animals when people enter their enclosures but if barriers are still allowing people to climb over or throw others in eg the child thrown to crocodiles then the parks can’t ensure everyone’s safety so I think now consideration has to be given as to whether vulnerable people should be allowed in .

TheFriendlyPotato · 10/10/2026 21:55

This thread shows the need to get one's facts right before commenting.

Sad for the man's family.

I saw the video earlier and it didn't look like the tiger really badly attacked the guy so I was surprised to read that he died. I guess the attack must have been escalated from there. I don't know what does through people's minds at times. Even if suicidal there are better ways to go about doing it than being attacked by a tiger. Hopefully he wasn't a social media "creator" doing it for clicks.

"Hopefully he wasn't a social media "creator" doing it for clicks"

so it's better if it were someone suicidal or mentally disturbed

ChunkyMonkey36 · 10/10/2026 21:57

Can we stop calling disabled people mentally disturbed, morons or “low ability people” please?

It’s, for want of a better phrase, rude as fuck.

GreenEyesMillennial · 10/10/2026 21:50

Yes. I agree with you. I might report it actually.

I have many times - maybe if more people do they will remove it. Such an awful situation

Ewock · 10/10/2026 21:57

Neddevine · 10/10/2026 21:50

Would you feel the same way if it had been a child? Who wanted to stroke the cute tiger?

Or a young adult with possibly the same or similar intellectual capacity as a child?

You're assuming the choice was made by an adult with full mental capacity.

Yes I am assuming that. If it was a child I'd be disgusted with the parents, but a child wouldn't be able to get in the enclosure. If it was an adult with a disability, then its shocking that he was able to manage to not only get away from whoever was responsible for him but also get in the enclosure.
But I stand by the fact for those there and dealing with it, it will be horrific and the impact on them massive.

What the fuck is wrong with you Op 🤬 Posting photos of the poor chap being attacked and asking if people have seen the sick videos circulating social media. He’s since died and police apparently struggled to contact his family , let’s hope the police managed to locate them before they saw any of the photos and videos. Imagine if it was your family member and you found out about their horrific death from a post on Mumsnet !!!

And then reading the gloating posts about his stupidity ('Darwinism in action'), the 'ooh is he dead yet ' and the 'hope the tiger is OK'.

IMHO this thread shows some people really shouldn’t comment at all.

Call me controversial, I think parks should be able to ensure everyone’s safety.

But you’re right. If wildlife parks can’t keep learning disabled people safe, for both themselves and others, I wouldn’t take mine.

No need to restrict his access, we wouldn’t go if there was a risk of death.

lifeturnsonadime · 10/10/2026 22:01

How on earth was this man able to get into the enclosure?

He must have been 'being cared for'. Where was his carer?

This is so tragic.

But you clearly don’t feel for the grieving family who may see your comments.

Would you say this to their face?

Would I say what? That I feel for the people involved? Yes I would. Would I say to any grieving family it was their child's fault? Of course not how bloody stupid to assume I would.
I was saying based on an assumption he was an adult with mental capacity that he willingly climbed in. I didnt call him names or say anything against him. I said I feel for those involved as the impact will be unimaginable. His family are included in that as they are involved, not there (dont know rhat for sure) but involved as his family.

I was quoting the lady who was a local saying the man and his mates were shouting and antagonising the tiger before he jumped in! How is that not moronic? We don’t know if they were high or drunk. It’s not the tigers fault.

Edited

Not one person has blamed the tiger anywhere.

Its a wild animal and will of course attack.

He was obviously not of ‘sound mind’ and no one deserves to get mauled to death in such a traumatic way.

It’s shocking that you say he deserved it, like absolutely disgusting.

Livelovebehappy · 10/10/2026 22:03

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 10/10/2026 22:00

And then reading the gloating posts about his stupidity ('Darwinism in action'), the 'ooh is he dead yet ' and the 'hope the tiger is OK'.

Why shouldn’t people hope that the tiger’s okay? People can be equally concerned that the tiger is okay, as well as sympathising with the death of the guy jumping in there.

CrazyMidget · 10/10/2026 22:05

I am sorry for the man. Something must have been very wrong to jump into a tier enclosure, whether learning difficulties or being suicidal. And how awful for his family.

I hope they won't kill the tiger. He was just being a tiger.
