Why do zoos have enclosures that people can get into/fall into? They just don’t learn their lessons. This happens much too often. It shouldn’t happen at all!

ToKittyornottoKitty · 10/10/2026 20:19

It is indeed, with people like you. A bigger tragedy happened here. And yeah, I still think you expecting a ‘good will gesture’ off the back of a man’s death is grabby. Moan all you want, we’ve both made our opinions clear here and even now you volunteer at a food bank, expecting freebies because someone died is still grabby.

A discount isn’t a freebie.
It will be on people’s minds, because not everyone is in the position not to fret about money and wouldve been worried about finances after this treat. It’s OK for them to feel this way.
Especially given circumstances, it’s not like someone was thrown in!!! Or a tiger escaped. Some bloke thought he was big and tough and clever enough to so determinedly go out of his way to antagonise a tiger and found out he wasn’t untouchable. Many people have little sympathy in this situation.

I think judging from his reaction even from the way he is signalling to the tiger the man has a learning disability and this video absoloutely breaks my heart because he genuinely looks confused by the tigers reaction. When I think about people I have worked with and they might not understand the consequences of this because they may have a special interest in tigers and have cuddley tigers at home. I genuinely hope he did not suffer for long I dread to think of the pain and the confusion. This is devastating. People calling him an idiot online should be ashamed of themselves this is clearly a very vulnerable person.

Agree 100%
it’s heartbreaking to think that the poor lad might have been so excited to see the tigers. Some of the comments have been so callous and cruel, the ignorance is staggering.

I agree. Absolutely tragic to think of.

Sorry not read the thread but how misleading is the BBC headline 'man attacked by tiger'?

Of course he was. The idiot jumped into its enclosure, what else would be expected? 'Man jumps into tiger enclosure' is more accurate.

No sympathy for him from me.

Yep, all the tiger attack headlines are misleading.

When I saw the first one earlier I thought/assumed one of the tigers had got out somehow. Says a lot for press standards now though.

Do you mean common sense…

His poor family, losing their loved one in such a sudden, public upsetting way and then knowing those comments are out there.

You really are quite something aren't you

Are you actually joking?

Yes he’s biologically grown but that doesn’t mean he’s emotionally grown.

He wouldn’t be telling the tiger to stop it if he didn’t have some sort of additional needs FFS 🤦‍♀️

Haven't read the full thread. Has it been confirmed he wasn't "emotionally grown"?

ForAmberPoster · 10/10/2026 20:30

BlameJay · 10/10/2026 20:16

Amur Tigers (the species YWP have) are endangered. YWP have contributed to the breeding programme over the years. There are estimated to be ~ 750 in the wild.

They have Amur Leopards in the adjacent enclosure that they have also successfully bred. These are critically endangered with about 130 left in the wild.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need to have animals in captivity, but as we do the best way we have at the moment is in ethical enclosures where people pay (aka donate towards their upkeep) to view them.

Well said. The YWP rescues animals and is involved in conservation. Such ignorant comments on here and elsewhere eg the BBC calling it a zoo. A terrible tragedy isn’t helped by comments from such people.

Ironic (but not surprising) after all your empathy for those who wasted money on petrol that you have none for the poor guy who likely had learning difficulties and tragically died.

Zucker · 10/10/2026 20:30

Have people forgotten that developmentally delayed children grow up into adults. Being disabled these days is only acceptable when it's cute it seems.

The harsh judgement of this man without knowing anything about him is disgraceful.

Papyrophile · 10/10/2026 20:31

If the young man jumped into the safe enclosure where the tiger was contained, then his carers are responsible. If he had LDs, that is NO excuse. Where does kindness enter the discussion?

Most people with any sort of empathy would have some sympathy for this man or his loved ones at least.

You seem to lacking any sort of empathy and think people are going to be caring more about money right now than the traumatic event they have just been part of, even if they didn’t directly witness it.

If they want a refund it will be a good couple of days at least before even think about it.

Why do zoos have enclosures that people can get into/fall into? They just don’t learn their lessons. This happens much too often. It shouldn’t happen at all!

You cannot fall into that enclosure.

To get into it someone has to be extremely determined, very good jumping skills, have the sheer luck to pass the high voltage fencing, and survive the high fall. Before the tiger even comes into it.

Huge numbers have been to that park since the tiger enclosures were built. It’s over a decade since I first saw them.

This isn’t a flimsy enclosure in a zoo that hasn’t bothered to be careful.

Not confirmed officially but it’s pretty obvious considering he went into an enclosure with a carnivorous wild animal and was signing and telling it off when it started hurting him.

I think there will be many more in 10-20 years and sadly this sort of thing will be more common.

No one can fall into the enclosure. It is very difficult to get into the enclosure

Papyrophile · 10/10/2026 20:37

I send my condolences to his family who hopefully loved him. But it was a dereliction of care that nobody prevented him jumping into the enclosure with the tiger.

It should be more than careful, it should be impossible for someone to climb and jump into it in the first place. Some zoos have this, a glass enclosure with a roof.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/10/2026 18:34

Agreed.

It’s like a ‘shark attack’. You’re in the sea, with the shark and the shark was hungry…

So - a shark attack then
