Gutted they killed the tiger.

Reminds me of that gorgeous gorilla.

People should need to pass a test to enter zoos.

The man has died but the tiger is alive. This from South Yorkshire police:

"Regarding rumours surrounding the condition of the tiger, the animal was uninjured and remained in the enclosure following the incident and there is no wider risk to the public.”

I was thinking about this.

Also that I hope that this doesn’t cause problems going forward. Does the tiger have any human contact with keepers? What if it has now developed a taste for humans!!

And if someone can get in, can the tiger get out!

I thought tigers were climbers.

It hasn't 'developed a taste for humans'! It attacked that poor man because it saw the man as a threat. Imagine if you find a strange man/animal in your house and you have no means of escape or powers of verbal reasoning - what will you do? Attack probably. It wasn't attacking him because it was hungry!!

From what I’ve seen, it looks like this poor man had learning disabilities. It looks like he’s using Makaton to tell the tiger no. If this is the case, where on earth were the carers?!
my son has severe learning disabilities and things like this absolutely terrify me for when I’m no longer here. My heart goes out to his family.

I do not get makaton at all and I have no idea how PP's can tell he had LD's from that video.

You are one of life’s grabbers, we get it!

What 😂

Damn empathy for putting myself in someone else’s shoes, I honestly have a lot of empathy for low income families, so super grabby, I may as well be a claw machine. Prize every time type, of course.

My grabbiness is why I volunteer at the food bank actually, so I can tell them they’re being grabby when worried financially, but gleefully hold hands and dance in a circle about how grabby we all are. 😂😂 it’s nice to meet likeminded people n all…. just incase, as I’m not sure it will be clear to you, this in jest….

Mumsnet is insane sometimes!

ILoveAGingerCat · 10/10/2026 20:16

That's sad news that the man has died, but I am glad the tiger has not been killed. Sorry, but he really should not have done what he did, (jumping in the tiger enclosure,) whatever the reason. They better NOT kill the tiger now! Hmm

There are a myriad of more suitable rescue locations for a tiger than a wildlife park in Doncaster. Better than a zoo? Maybe. As good for the animal as life in its indigenous habitat, away from the prying eyes of onlookers? No.
The company that owns the Yorkshire Wildlife Park made a profit of £3.6m in the last published accounts. Is that for the benefit of the tiger or the owners I wonder?

Amur Tigers (the species YWP have) are endangered. YWP have contributed to the breeding programme over the years. There are estimated to be ~ 750 in the wild.

They have Amur Leopards in the adjacent enclosure that they have also successfully bred. These are critically endangered with about 130 left in the wild.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need to have animals in captivity, but as we do the best way we have at the moment is in ethical enclosures where people pay (aka donate towards their upkeep) to view them.

For goodness sake are some of you posters for real?

Of course the keepers don't go in to the tiger enclosure. Also I am pretty sure it is unlikely that the tiger has developed a taste for humans.

As I, and quite a few others have said, it is very very difficult to get into the enclosure. Yes someone managed to but it really would not have been easy and he must have been very determined for whatever reason.

No way on earth can the tiger get out. Such a stupid thing to say

It is indeed, with people like you. A bigger tragedy happened here. And yeah, I still think you expecting a ‘good will gesture’ off the back of a man’s death is grabby. Moan all you want, we’ve both made our opinions clear here and even now you volunteer at a food bank, expecting freebies because someone died is still grabby.

No, that's a bit of old wives tale nonsense. Anyway it's not like the keepers will be swanning around within biting distance, they'll have safety protocols.

People could quite as easily pay for the rehabilitation, relocation and protection of these tigers in their natural environment. But they don’t. Far more people operate on the “refund and discount” line of thought. If they don’t get to see them, they aren’t paying, never mind what is in the best interest of the actual animal. And the shareholders. Of course.

Could they? The problem is there isn't much natural environment left.

Starblind19 · 10/10/2026 20:21

I think judging from his reaction even from the way he is signalling to the tiger the man has a learning disability and this video absoloutely breaks my heart because he genuinely looks confused by the tigers reaction. When I think about people I have worked with and they might not understand the consequences of this because they may have a special interest in tigers and have cuddley tigers at home. I genuinely hope he did not suffer for long I dread to think of the pain and the confusion. This is devastating. People calling him an idiot online should be ashamed of themselves this is clearly a very vulnerable person.

LancashireButterPie · 10/10/2026 19:58

The comments that have been made about this poor young man are horrible. He clearly had LD and needed support. He was failed.
My heart goes out to his family.

I have worked with an organisation that takes young people with ASD out for the day (often a zoo) the families pay around £100 a day for this. Some of the "carers" I worked with had no idea what they were doing and we're more interested in chatting between themselves than interacting with the service users.

Similar to that awful attack on that boy who got thrown into the circodile enclosure earlier this year.
I hope the man with LD's carers are being pursued for gross negligence.

Moron! Who tries to reason with a tiger? Fully grown, it's seven feet long and weighs 200kg. And it has big sharp carnivore teeth.

Agree. Their conservation work is amazing. We go often - its a wonderful place.

Totally agree. We have gold membership and go a lot. We love it there and it is a wonderful place

ItsPickleRick · 10/10/2026 20:02

I’m going to defend YWP here. The animals there are all rescued from horrific conditions. The lions for example were rescued from a Romanian zoo where they had been living in tiny cages.

I would actually actively encourage people to spend their pennies here so that they can continue their wonderful conservation work.

I complete agree that the comment about a refund was in bad taste.

I love YWP and they absolutely should be defended in this.

However, it’s simply not correct to say that the animals there are all rescued from horrific conditions

They have some animals they’ve rescued from horrific conditions, but some of their animals have not been. Their excellent work has seen them housing some very valuable animals in terms of species conservation, such as the very tigers everyone is talking about.

They are far more than a rescue facility. They are a very valuable conservation park now as well. Their Amur tiger and Amur leopard breeding success in particular.

Rightsraptor · 10/10/2026 20:25

Sorry not read the thread but how misleading is the BBC headline 'man attacked by tiger'?

Of course he was. The idiot jumped into its enclosure, what else would be expected? 'Man jumps into tiger enclosure' is more accurate.

No sympathy for him from me.

SomethingFun · 10/10/2026 20:26

I’ve done the tiger encounter at ywp, up close you appreciate how lethal they are - they are utterly silent and very beautiful, but you wouldn’t want to go in with them as you cannot control a wild animal. You don’t necessarily realise that when you are at such a safe distance from them on the walkways. I am so glad the tiger wasn’t put down.

A lot of animals in wildlife parks can’t just be put back into the wild. You can sponsor animals in the wild and support the work of places like ywp. Or you can do neither and moan that other people aren’t doing it right.

That person mithering about refunds - we got offered free tickets once for another visit because it was quite windy so I’m sure the visitors will be catered for.

A taste for humans? Seriously?

He’s had a taste for any moving creature he sees since he was born on account of being a tiger.

A person with learning difficulties, that's who. It's obvious from the video, from the man's reactions, he looks confused instead of scared.

Have some kindness.

Dear god, have a word with yourself!
If you are deliberately goading, that’s shameful
if not, you must be incredibly thick not to realise why this likely happened

You seem sure of the facts it seems.
