Whilst I agree that carers are massively underpaid, I don’t agree that they wouldn’t have been able to look after him. Surely if they saw what he was trying to do, and couldn’t restrain him for any reason, they could’ve sought help?
also many people with severe additional needs have a 2:1 ratio. So if that was the case, I assume that they would have had that. I would also argue that if you cannot do the job, you shouldn’t be doing that job. I certainly wouldn’t take a job as a carer if I didn’t think I could keep that person safe!!

As I said in my post, my son has severe learning disabilities and is level 3 autistic, he’s in a special needs school. He will have serious additional needs for the rest of his life and will never live independently.
The amount of ‘carers’ I see out and about just sat on their phones is ridiculous. It is terrifying for his future.

I have also said that my heart goes out to the man’s family. I cannot imagine being in their position.

I agree.

I won’t be here forever. And the idea that my son may be cared for by someone who can’t keep him away from a deadly animal, is horrifying.

It’s grim not to realise not everyone is the financial position to write it off and go next weekend. I was responding to a fair question. Lots of people are counting the pennies and a day out like this it not something they can afford more than once every few years

Perhaps spend your pennies on NOT watching animals in captivity? And try to give a care to the man who died, rather than focusing solely on your own interests.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/10/2026 19:35

We’re more locals, here.

I feel very sorry for the staff at the Wildlife Park, tbh. I hope they will have the support that they need. The same goes for any visitors who saw this horrible incident, and my condolences go out to the man’s family.

He has been killed. Just been updated.

I ended up scrolling and on the video being shared. Could not watch it until the end and i reported it. Disgusting to be sharing this.

Mumto2at · 10/10/2026 19:35

I saw the video, my cats play with spiders like that. Tbf they don't eat them, I'm not sure if the tiger tried to actually eat him or not there's only a small clip shared

Spaniels4Eva · 10/10/2026 19:35

It's been claimed on X that he was deaf and had learning difficulties. How utterly tragic all round, no matter how it happened.

ItsABatFaceThing · 10/10/2026 19:35

@DearCritic a man is mauled to death and your first thoughts are a refund? Fucking hell

doowkrib · 10/10/2026 19:35

I live nearby and South Yorkshire Police have confirmed the man died earlier today from his injuries. A friend works at YWP and she confirmed the tiger (male called Altai) was scared off using gas canisters and is unharmed. The tiger won’t be euthanised. The park is closed tomorrow.

It literally is the most terrifying feeling isn’t it? It absolutely breaks my heart and fills me with dread to think of the future when I’m not here.
I just feel so awful for this poor man’s family. I can’t even begin to imagine.

The Yorkshire Post is reporting shots were fired into the enclosure including a gas canister

It’s not the refund that’s the issue, it’s the grabby ‘discount as a good will gesture’ that’s grim. I’m not in a financial position to write it off, I’d not expect a good will gesture though for missing out as a result of someone’s death. There’s always people like you lurking around in situations like this though so I’m sure the wildlife park will get a few of you.

Tigers shouldn’t be in Doncaster. They are not “entertainment” or some kind of “fun, family day out”. They are wild animals, that deserve to be in their natural habitat of Asia. Exploitation has led to some poor man, who cannot have been in his right mind, being killed by a tiger today. Not the tigers fault, it was doing what it does.

There isn't much of their natural habitat left, and they're relentlessly persecuted including of Chinese "medicine".
The wildlife parks are a far nicer environment than traditional zoos, and have important breeding programmes to stop animals like tigers going extinct.

Do you know what Yorkshire Wildlife Park actually do? They aren’t stealing animals from the wild, they are hugely into conservation.

66babe · 10/10/2026 17:46

Well I hope they didn’t shoot the tiger !

My 1st thought ! i think the shots heard were gas canisters being fired off to scare the tiger back into its enclosure - i hope that's the case !

BlameJay · 10/10/2026 19:43

For those talking about the design of the enclosure I have taken a screenshot from Googlemaps (might take some time to show).

To get into the enclosure from the high walkway you would have to jump (not just drop) over the wooden barrier onto the metal fence. I think from memory there is a gap between the two - it's difficult to tell from that angle. You would then need to climb up and over the metal fence and jump into the enclosure.

BeeHive909 · 10/10/2026 19:43

Where are people seeing that the tiger is dead as no news reports are saying it. I’ll be so so angry if they kill that beautiful animal he’s done nothing wrong. Thoughts are with the man’s family and the poor people that witnessed what happened

Allseeingallknowing · 10/10/2026 19:45

leperol · 10/10/2026 19:21

Access to the enclosure was obviously doable. It shouldn't be. If there are to be dangerous animals on view, surely the walls/fences/glass should be as high as possible with suitable deterrents for climbing over.

I am so sad for that man. Who knows what went on in his head. Doesn't matter if he was bad or mad, he's dead. RIP.

There’s only so much they can do to make the area safe. They can’t forsee how vulnerable people are going to act. Visitors have responsibility too

Changeiscoming1111 · 10/10/2026 19:45

Very sad. I hope to never see this video circulating, and it’s awful that someone has shared it and filmed in the first place!!!

GreenEyesMillennial · 10/10/2026 19:45

No, that’s not where people are seeing it, because irs not true

Thecows · 10/10/2026 19:46

Stunned that anyone would be so crass as to mention refunds or money in any form whatsoever in relation to this tragic case.

Dunnocantthinkofone · 10/10/2026 19:49

Well hindsight is clearly an easy lens to view this through. But that enclosure looks quite open for such dangerous animals
