I followed this story because it was so tragic, but wasn't expecting that 😪

The three sisters, seen as teenagers, and their father sit together at a restaurant table, from left to right, Jane Adetoro, Joseph, Christina Walters and Rebecca Walters.

The bodies of Jane Adetoro, Christina Walters and Rebecca Walters were pulled from the water on 13 May.

No, I’m not happy, because three young women ended their own lives. The fact that you are suggesting that my response is because I’m having a bad day demonstrates that you still don’t get it.

Jesus. Give it a rest!

Losingmyfuckingmind · 08/10/2026 13:42

I did think this at the time. If they were religious as well they could think they are going to meet her. Very very sad.

I thought tragic accident. A family not used to being at the seaside getting into trouble on the steeply shelving beach. Maybe one trying to help the others.

Eta, I don't dispute the verdict, I just wasn't expecting it. I can see a family being devastated by their mother's death, but it's shocking (to me) that all three would see suicide as the answer.

Edited

When someone is suicidal they see it as their only option. The fact they went out early in morning points to their intention. It's very sad.

How utterly tragic.

RIP.

^This. It’s just so tragic that they didn’t see any other way through their grief.

I'm sure they did, but in my mind, I'd expect at least one to say come on don't be so daft, mum wouldn't want this. 😪

I wonder if it's something like a shared psychosis, due to trauma from their mum's death.

it reminds me of the family who committed suicide in Burari, India, where 10 people hanged themselves in the same family home. It all stemmed from one brother's psychosis.

With respect this is what I hate about social media. read a headline and decide it's not right without reading what the inquest actually found out.

If you had read this thread you would have seen that I have explained multiple times by now. So hate all you want, but please don’t use with respect in the same sentence.

Nofeckingway · 08/10/2026 13:54

Heartbreaking to think that three lovely young woman lived with grief and maybe despair for 16 years . Very sad that they did not get help for this and felt suicide was the only way to deal with it . Must have also been a terrifying experience for them .

Cailleach1 · 08/10/2026 13:57

The ironic thing is that this would probably be the very last thing their mother would have wanted her three daughters to do.

It is interesting they were all living together, they were roughly all in their early to mid thirties. They have different surnames from the father, and each other. It was 16 years since their mother’s death. So they would have been roughly 20, 16, and 15 when that happened.

They must have been quite miserable, and maybe life had been difficult in the 16 years since their mother died. Maybe beforehand too, as their mother ended her own life. I suppose nobody will ever know the full story now of what led them to this.

I am actually starting to hate MN. Some people seem to take every opportunity to lash out and just don’t stop. It just makes you feel shit. Although I see now that @Blimms post has been deleted, so thank you for that.

There will have been more detail in court on their background for the coroner to make this statement as reported in the BBC article.

Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, had been living "very secluded lives" following the death of their mother, who drowned in 2010, senior coroner Penelope Schofield said.

It just seems so odd that they did this 16 years after their Mum died. If they had done it a few months afterwards it would be more understandable. Tragic waste of young life.

That’s not how depression and suicidal thoughts works though.

I remember a thread on here at the time, there were people absolutely determined to think it was some sort of triple murder. Usually most likely explanation is the right one. It would be very unlikely that they would all accidentally fall in and be unable to get out/shout for help, particularly as they hadn't been drinking or anything, but even that was more likely than all three being randomly killed, presumably by at least two or three people working together, without anyone noticing.

The fact that the family couldn't find any photos of them as adults and used AI to mock one up of what they would look like based on childhood photos was also very odd. Of course I feel for their surviving family but it seems like there was probably a lot going on under the surface there for all 3 to feel suicide was the only way out.

I remember that thread too, strong emphasis on them being black as well, the insinuation that it was a triple murder based on their skin colour. People really do like to jump to bizarre conclusions when something tragic has happened.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 08/10/2026 14:15

My cousin died when he was 19, from SADS, and his parents were talking about a suicide pact, like they were discussing their weekend plans.
They said that they had to go and look after him, like it was the most logical, and natural thing in the world.
Thankfully, their daughters were able to pull them out of it.

Some people were convinced they'd come to harm on a migrant boat...

hmm. That just doesn’t sit quite right.

Absolutely. 3 vulnerable black women die and it’s just ‘suicide’. Hmmm. I think not

Lifeomars · 08/10/2026 14:17

Desperately sad. If only one of them had felt that seeking help might have been a way forward and then maybe could have reached out to the others. So tragic

I’m sure I read at the time that the day before they had gone back to the place where their mother had died somewhere near Birmingham, then they went back home on the train, slept at home and then the next evening got a train to Brighton.

I think you're right. It's absolutely tragic.

I thought one of the sisters was married but I think I might be incorrect. It seems they all loved together and didn't really have friends and support outside of their own family.

Unfortunately it seems we spoke too soon, seems like some of the tin-hatters posters from that thread are on this one as well, and not even the coroner's comments can convince them.

I do wonder what people gain from their conspiracy theories. Surely it's just depressing to live in a world where murderers hide round every corner and nobody can be trusted. You'd think there would be enough actual crime in the world to not need to hope for more.

I think I thought that too, that one was married because she had a different name but she had changed her name to her mum’s name or something. I think they worked though. I think one was an accountant.

Staffygirl · 08/10/2026 14:42

They had closed down their bank accounts, something like the day before, and had put other admin in order regarding the flat.
The internet searches were for suicide by drowning etc.
It's fairly obvious this had been planned for some time :-(

dottiedodah · 08/10/2026 14:51

I think this was so tragic ,Also they had a 4th sister Lilian who is still alive .I think speculation is difficult as no one knows what goes on in their minds .RIP ladies
