No agenda and no judgement, as in the title how long would it take you to drink half a bottle of white wine? One that you like.

Probably a week, but we don’t drink at home so most likely would be over dinner in a restaurant and in that case a couple of hours.

Ages, because I only drink wine with food and prefer red.
I have a bottle of Taittinger champagne in my fridge that has been there since 2022 (Christmas).

Oh we kept a fancy bottle of champagne for about 7 years and it was horrible and syrupy when we opened it so do check!

Twisting · 04/10/2026 21:33

Depends on so many things.

Last night I did half a glass and fell asleep.

Another night, if dh is going to the kitchen, it'll be about 1-2 hours maybe for half a bottle.

I can do fizz far too quickly.

Summer evening I can easily drink 1/2 bottle in the garden.

Twisting · 04/10/2026 21:35

About 2-3 hours in a pub, because it's bloody expensive.

Knotterbot · 04/10/2026 21:37

I think an hour for me? I have this awkward thing where DH drinks faster than me so he has 2 and a bit glasses from the bottle to my topped up one essentially so I have got drunk before trying to catch up to get my ‘share’ as it feels a bit light but then if we go onto a second bottle it’s too much.

Once I measured half into a Pyrex jug and suggested we each have half at our own pace but he wasn’t too impressed with that. The big difference is I put my glass down between sip to knit (and usually when he brings wine I’m in the middle of knitting so he gets a head start)

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 04/10/2026 21:42

About 1/2 an hour, or these days 3 1/2 years.

Lots of variables. Sometimes, half an hour, sometimes that’s an evenings worth. Depends on the wine as well. Some go down much more easily than others

same here.

Mmmm19 · 04/10/2026 21:45

Odd questions. Chatting with a friend over dinner or drinks - an hour. On my own at home this week - 3 nights over 7.

Llttledrummergirl · 04/10/2026 21:53

It depends. Really nice glass of a decent wine, a few hours. First couple of glasses of cheap plonk bought by employer on a night out, about 10 mins.

Fruitloop34 · 04/10/2026 21:55

Half an hour

RisingSunn · 04/10/2026 21:57

2 days!

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 04/10/2026 22:04

1/2 a bottle you say? So maybe 2 glasses tops... around an hour, hour and a half maybe

I also have a drink problem - I've got two hands, but only one mouth!

People say I've got a drinking problem, but I ain't got no problem drinking at all.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 04/10/2026 22:12

Two weeks? 27ml a day? Grin

Crudd99 · 04/10/2026 22:13

Younger days literally minutes. Nowadays I don't drink wine . It's like drinking acid to my stomach.

PetuniaT · 04/10/2026 22:22

Half the time the whole bottle takes.

HangingOver · 04/10/2026 22:25

I'm in recovery. 15 minutes easy (6.5 years sober)

wanttokickoffbutcant · 04/10/2026 22:29

My scientific research for you this evening says that I opened a bottle at 6.45 and have just poured a final glass so roughly divided by two.......two hours.

Newusernameforthiss · 04/10/2026 22:29

I mean it totally depends?? With spicy Chinese food? 40 minutes. On a week when my DH isn't drinking having a tiny glass with dinner with children? 5 days 🤷🏻‍♀️

LumpkinPumpkin · 04/10/2026 22:29

I might pour half a bottle into one of my massive glasses and drink it in one evening (over a couple of hours). Or I might have a small glass and the rest of the bottle would languish in the fridge for weeks before eventually ending up in a pasta sauce or a stew or something. I’m not a huge drinker really.

JoyousWriter · 04/10/2026 22:37

It would evaporate first - I don't drink!

At the risk of being flamed by others on this thread (who don't like teetotallers commenting..), just wanted to say that's brilliant, nice one. I'm in recovery too and just hit 10 years.

I would also have drunk half a bottle in about 15 mins, didn't help that I'm quite small...

That’ll be bad now. Sorry. It won’t taste definitively awful but you should never store champagne in a fridge.

GarlicEverything · 04/10/2026 22:53

40 minutes, and it's much more likely to be red.

PPs have reminded me I've got 3 bottles of Prosecco in the fridge - people give it to me for birthdays, and I rarely drink it. I'll have to open them and see if they've gone gooey, syrupy or otherwise weird!

Back21970 · 04/10/2026 23:05

About an hour and a half I’d say.

Could be quicker depending on circumstances!
