No agenda and no judgement, as in the title how long would it take you to drink half a bottle of white wine? One that you like.

If it’s already been opened you might as well tip the rest away now as it will have oxidised and gone bad after that amount of time.

That answers my question above then

JustWalnut · 04/10/2026 08:30

Probably a couple of weeks. Then the other half would sit in the fridge until I ended up pouring it down the sink.

bababamama · 04/10/2026 08:30

Depends if I was thirsty and in the mood for wine, between 1-2 hours

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/10/2026 08:30

Well ive got one in my fridge. Its been there about two or three months at this point...

You might as well use that as vinegar because that's what it'll taste like.

Depends. Stressful day, an hour. Relaxing evening watching interesting TV or reading, a couple of hours.

I prefer red, anyway.

Myli1 · 04/10/2026 08:31

I don’t often drink white wine, but I do like a nice red. Half a bottle would probably last me a weekend, as I’d have a 175ml glass on Friday night and another on Saturday night.

HappyViewer · 04/10/2026 08:35

About an hour and a half if it’s sparkling wine and I’m out or on holiday. I don’t enjoy alcohol at home.

bababamama · 04/10/2026 08:35

Can I give a tip to those who seem to have wine lingering in their fridges for cooking - freeze leftover wine into ice cube trays and then you can drop a cube or two into sauces, means it doesn’t go vinegary

Sgtmajormummy · 04/10/2026 08:39

Once it’s open it starts oxidizing so I’d say a bottle would do two dinners for 2 people.
So 26 hours.
I also have cooking wine in quarter-litre tetrapak but I’d have to be desperate to drink it neat!

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 04/10/2026 08:40

About 90 mins. I can and do drink prosecco much faster but white wine I like to pour a small amount at a time and savour it.

Funny thing is the second half of the bottle would go down much faster. I stop savouring it at that point and just keep drinking it mindlessly. I don't like that I do that and am too much of an all or nothing drinker.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/10/2026 08:51

In Italy there’s a lot of snobbery about wine. A plastic cork is frowned upon, even though they’re more reliable. Screw tops are the devil’s work and tetrapak is for winos.

If you’re only using it for cooking and the alcohol will steam off, tetrapak is a good way to protect the wine from light and air (just squeeze it to remove the air).

Only judgement is I would think the wine would spoil?

Personally I wouldn't know, but am interested in those that keep wine for cooking for months on end - is it really still useable?

Yes, it doesn’t spoil.

Whynottryagain · 04/10/2026 09:10

I don't drink, but I use it in cooking, so probably months! I keep it in the fridge. It still seems fine to me although I'm definitely not a connoisseur!

DH has a glasses a few times a week, so I guess a week or so. Unless it was being drunk at a dinner party or event, in which case I suppose a few hours.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 04/10/2026 09:10

As a student I could down a bottle of echo falls in 37 seconds. Now half a bottle would probs take an hour and a half? I only really drink wine with food so it does slow me down.

If DH and I are out and on the pints we probs do 2 an hour if we’re not paying attention, but we do try and be mindful as we are grown ups now - can’t hack it like we used to and we both drink fast.

onmylastnerveseriously · 04/10/2026 09:12

Well I only have two sips at Christmas and Easter, three if there is a royal wedding that year. I take every other year off though. So about 17 years? That’s really going some though

andfinallyhereweare · 04/10/2026 09:16

30 mins/hours? Depends probs an hour on average

Booksandwine80 · 04/10/2026 09:17

Pieandchips999 · 03/10/2026 20:13

Maybe three hours as that's three small glasses

Are you a borrower?!😂

sherbetlemonade · 04/10/2026 09:29

I don't really drink wine any more, but in my younger days, probably about an evening. That's when wine glasses were normal small pub sized, so it would be a good three glasses from half a bottle.

Ally886 · 04/10/2026 09:36

Always makes me laugh when people comment on these kind of posts who don't drink 😂

It's like a post about commuting into London I saw once and the amount of people who posted "I live in the north and work in Manchester so wouldn't know". CHEERS LOVE REALLY HELPFUL.

OP - half a bottle would take DH and I half hour so an hour if I drank half a bottle to myself

exaltedwombat · 04/10/2026 17:42

About a minute, if I was trying to prove a point.

Rockpunkdisco · 04/10/2026 17:45

Much less than an hour, the first glass of cold white wine goes down far too easily!

Andrea87 · 04/10/2026 17:52

Normally a fortnight

ouro66 · 04/10/2026 17:52

About 5-10 minutes. I know I have a problem.

rosie1873 · 04/10/2026 17:55

About a year and a half. I'm not fond of the taste of any alcohol but drink 3/4 glass with Christmas dinner and 3/4 glass to toast the New Year. Only use it in cooking.

MyGirlJ · 04/10/2026 17:56

At home, about and hour and a half. If was in a pub or bar, probably and 45 minutes to an hour.

CrushingOnRubies · 04/10/2026 17:56

couple of hours/ an evening. White wine gives me awful heartburn so depends on if I have rennies on me.
