Just wondering as I never have due to horror stories. Have you ever done one and did anything weird happen?

Just for fun stories and curiosity 😁

Just to remind everyone in this thread that it’s a thread asking if you had ever done an Ouiija board and if anything happened not asking if you think it’s all bullshit. Just thought I’d put that there as some people are just mocking this thread and there is no need for it, if you don’t believe in this stuff then just scroll past the thread ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes. We were in year 7, so about 11 years old. We made one with scraps of paper and a cup in the corner of our very old school library (Harry Potter vibes). We were thrown out of the library and all had a lunch time detention.

Name changed for this (not sure why). Did a makeshift board with friends 30 years ago at uni. We did it for a laugh and were all very sceptical. Freakiest experience of my life. I had always thought beforehand that there would be one person in the group that was actually moving the glass and it would just be a giggle. My memory is that the glass was gliding about like an air hockey puck to the extent that we were all struggling to keep our fingers on it. I remember it felt as if it was rising up underneath our fingers. Never experienced anything like it. We got freaked out that we ended the session quite quickly and I don’t think anything really horrible happened. We smashed the glass and ripped up the paper we’d drawn the board on. I’d never do it again.

Same, in 80s with sister, brother and mum. It flew around, felt very powerful. We just had a circle of paper letters, glass would push the letters out, and come to the edge of the table and nearly fall off so would have to put it in our palm. Or it would violently go backwards and forwards against the Yes or No cards. It often spelt out silly but personal messages including swear words I barely knew (we didnt swear in our house), sometimes as alternate letters. It seemed to have a malevolent sense of 'humour'.

We took turns placing our fingers on it so we knew it wasn't one person doing it, and put the back of our fingernails on it so there wasn't much pressure or ability to move it ourselves.

After not using it for weeks the glass fell to the floor and broke.

I'm generally very sceptical about spirits, religion etc so I decided it was caused by some sort of collective unconscious mind thing between us.
I very rarely remember things in such detail, it had a huge impact on me.

I remember my friends doing one on a school trip (it was a sports trip so I wasn’t there luckily)

Something amusing about remembering an event you weren't present for not even being remotely close to being the most ludicrous claim in this thread 😂

This person obviously means they remember her friends did one on a school trip and telling her about it ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️ why get funny and think you’re hilarious for questioning what was written.

What I find funny is bell ends like you commenting on a thread that you clearly don’t believe in but taking the time out of your day to point out things and belittle others. Well done 👏🏻 hope that’s made you feel a little better about yourself today.

Late seventies and I won’t go near one again. Group of us got together a few weeks after a loved mutual friend had died in a motorbike accident. In the house of one of us we got hold of an ouija board. Messing around a bit - but the glass moved quite slowly first and then flew across the table and board. 2 of us leapt up and went to go out of the room BUT the door was immovable - it was just a standard plywood type door and no lock on it nor any kind of interesting handle … it would not move …. And it wouldn’t open.
a family member downstairs watching TV heard a noise and after a few mins came up and easily opened the door …. We had all given it up by then and literally ran out of the room. The door was totally easy to open and shut …. Nothing weird about the door or the house, but on that evening in 1977 it really didn’t want anyone to leave .. not something I will ever do again 50 years later

It's an interesting thread, whether you believe in it or not. These smug know-alls are surely clever enough to work out that if you don't have any interest in a thread, you don't need to read it, let alone comment.

Yes, have one at home that usually comes out at Halloween, watch the Derren Brown episode about it, that explains how it ‘works’. It’s just a board game but the psychology around it is fascinating.

The only time I’ve looked at it was for the Derren Brown episode. It did actually move but I can’t remember much about what he said, it was many years ago.

It really pisses me off, if there is threads I’m not interested in I simply scroll past them I don’t go on there and start belittling people, being rude and nasty. What is with this site these days? I find these things fascinating too as I’ve had experiences in my life, but to jump on the thread and just be a complete prick shows how bored they are clearly.

EasternStandard · 03/10/2026 13:03

Did anyone else try it along with the Derren Brown programme? It was about twenty years ago but I still remember it.

People who jump on threads to deliberately ridicule should just fuck off 🤷🏼‍♀️ no need to be on a thread if you don’t believe in what is being discussed.

This will blow everyone's mind, but in the late 1960's they were being marketed by a reputable toy manufacturer as a toy for children from (I think) age 10 onwards. I was bought one for Christmas by a relative. It was a very fancy affair with all sorts of colourful and intricate symbolism painted on it and a sort of crystal glass thing to put your fingers on. I used it once with a few friends and it all got pretty silly and hysterical, so my mother duly disposed of it. I'm surprised I was allowed anywhere near it to be honest.

Laurmolonlabe · 03/10/2026 13:25

I was given one aged 14- nothing too exciting happened, but had some good conversations.
When I went to university to read classics i found out it was already a thing in ancient Greece- described by a dream interpreter call Diadorus, as a way of talking to dead relatives, mainly to find out where the money was buried lol.

chirrupybird · 03/10/2026 13:30

Yes many years ago, and the bloody thing did move frightened the life out of all of us stopped and binned it.

IStillHearTheWaves · 03/10/2026 13:31

Definitely did in my teens a few times
Nothing ever happened and it was a massive let down!

Yes, this is what's used in The Exorcist! I was shocked when I read it was an actual game.

Lotusina · 03/10/2026 13:40

My mum put me off for life. At college, she and a few friends were messing about with one. They were asking what their first child would be, ie boy/girl. When her friend asked, it spelled out “dead”.

HelloCheekyCat · 03/10/2026 13:45

We tried a few times in early senior school years, handwritten on a sheet of A4 on the stage behind the curtains, always very disappointed nothing happened.
also tried ‘light as a feather stiff as a board’ & ‘there’s been a car crash’ at sleepovers. We watched too many horror films & were always disappointed nothing ever happened.
are there a few Americans posting? The talk of dorms & freshmen, and I’m not sure the Hasbro versions were ever really a thing in the uk

Yes around 1996 when we were teens messing around. Didn’t move like we were pushing it, but flew around to the letters of its own accord. Spelled out Kurt Cobain. We figured it wasn’t him cos why would he be hanging out in surrey in 1996?
But whatever/whoever it was led to some creepy shit happening and we ditched it fast after that.

Oh I summoned Kurt Cobain too, to Lincolnshire in about 2004. He really gets about!

And it was also extremely creepy, my friend’s poster of him peeled off the wall and fell down. We screeched and ran to get her parents who were watching TV in the lounge.

Dollymylove · 03/10/2026 13:50

Yes. About 50 years ago my workmates were discussing this stuff and someone suggested making a home made ouija board. We asked it the middle name of a friend, the friend would never reveal what their middle name was so we thought it must be really weird. The ouija board gave the correct answer (the name wasnt wierd at all)
Im fairly convinced though that someone actually DID know the answer 😂

Monty36 · 03/10/2026 13:57

I wouldn’t touch one. Not a chance.

Strokethefurrywall · 03/10/2026 14:27

Haha poor Kurt Cobain, taking in the beauty of all the counties of Britain and randomly getting summoned to teens playing with ouija boards!

Hi. That is me, yes I grew up on the US. It was the DOB of my freshman year roommate my mum and grandma were "told."

Edited

I got mine in a charity shop but I think it was made by Hasbro.
