Mid-terms looming, approval falling, prices rising, wars ongoing - Ping Ping and Fu Shuang must be wondering what heinous crime they committed to be banished chosen as envoys of friendship between China and USA. 🐼🐼

True, but seeing him squirm under the self-own of having brought about Jack Smith actually testifying would be so delightful I'd be tempted to set up a gofundme to make it happen.

There should hopefully come a time when no matter what way he turns, there is a demon from his past - of his own making - before him.

That scene from Downfall being something to imagine ...

...and the key part of that scene. which no one seems to remember, is how Hitler said he didn't care how many million Germans died, he couldn't care less. They had let him (him, not Germany) down and so they deserved to suffer and be enslaved by Russia. Bear that in mind as you here the various Trump-enablers making pronouncements. They are within a whisker of saying the same about the US.

Because of my belief in the Republican Party, and all of our Policies and Principles, and especially after witnessing what is taking place in France, and other locations throughout Europe, I am pleased to announce that, having to do with the Most Important Midterm Elections in our Country's History, I have spent, or will be spending, over 400 Million Dollars by Election Day. More than 300 Million Dollars has already been spent on Advertising, Direct and Indirect Voter Contact, Rallies, Rally Arenas, Telerallies, Get Out the Vote Programs, Election Integrity, and more. It is my Great Honor to do so on behalf of the Republican Party, which has done so much to bring our Country back from the Edge of Oblivion. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

I think a planet size brain, such as yours, is needed for this logic Don.

You seem to be saying that the way to avoid civil unrest is for rich people to spend a lot of money to try to buy elections ?

Hmm. Do you have any examples from history where this theory worked ?

If you want to see what is at stake in this Election, just look at what is happening in France -- A once-great nation that is being conquered, looted, and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists, and Communists who hate Christianity, and Western Civilization, itself. As we are seeing in Europe, Globalist Leftwing Politicians have treasonously imported millions of Third World Migrants who are totally incompatible with Western Values, and despise everything that makes France great. They have surrendered their country to vandals who could have never built it themselves, and who refuse to assimilate into their society, but only want to enter the welfare state paid for by hardworking citizens of France, while desecrating the culture that makes it all possible. Europe has to CLOSE THEIR BORDERS, and get out the people who hate their countries, and get them out FAST, before it is too late! These people do not love France, or these other countries under attack. They don't love the people, they don't love the art, they don't love the architecture or the buildings, they don't love anything that surrounds them. They have no passion for where they are, and they never will and, as I told President Macron when I first met him many years ago, CLOSE YOUR BORDER or, it will be the end of France. We stand with Europe, despite its flaws, its weaknesses and, hopefully, its temporary loss of direction. But if they don't soon find their way, we will have no choice but to leave. When we asked for help in Iran (Help which we didn't need, but was done more in the form of a test), they weren't there to help, something which I can never forget. When you see burning steeples and raging fires in France, just remember, THAT is what the Radical Dumocrats want to do to AMERICA. Just like in Europe, Dumocrats are the party of anti-Western Marxists and hostile Third World Migrants. Senator Roger Marshall and the People of Kansas will not let them plunder our Nation's Wealth, or demolish what our Ancestors built with their own sweat, blood, tears, and skill. The maniacs attacking our Civilization think they are doing well, you see and read about them all day and all night, but they have NO IDEA of the GIANT they have awoken and unleashed. They are going to find out the hard way on Election Day, November 3rd, 2026! Americans are going to stand up and declare that we will defend our Culture, we will protect our Civilization, we will preserve our Religion, our Values, and our Heritage, and we will never let our Nation be conquered or destroyed! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Goodness me, Its a chicken and egg thing. What came first ? Trump or the MN pro Reform poster ? I really can't tell them apart.

Where to start with this Gish Gallup of twaddle ?

Ach, just this bit then.

"A once-great nation that is being conquered, looted, and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists, and Communists who hate Christianity, and Western Civilization, itself."

Yeah. Communism, as in Marxism, is an European invention. And sure, communism is officially atheist, but check this verse from your Bible, Mr "sent by God"

"Act 4:32 - 35 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. "

That's the KJV, the same version as you sell. Technically it's the NKJ, but hey. So this whole thing of communism is in your very own book Don.

I don't know much about "migrants, jihadists". Although I am a migrant myself.

Oh, and this communism thing. Do you mean like this, in a different TRUTH, you put out on the same day ?

Drumpf's exchanges with Feinberg in the Oval Office are the perfect example of what an unpleasant and unpresidential POS he is.
Gives credence to the rumours that he is frequently raging and out of control behind the scenes.

Today’s HC-R

October 20, 2026 (Tuesday)

A blockbuster story in the Wall Street Journal tonight by Alexander Ward, Natalie Andrews, and Josh Dawsey says that it was billionaire Elon Musk who ordered Space X to slow down its service in Ukraine, rendering some drones that stopped incoming missiles and others aimed at Russian targets useless.

The reporters say it is unclear if Musk operated without input from White House officials. Some of their sources say he did; others say he coordinated with multiple senior officials, including Trump.

According to Jennifer Jacobs of CBS News, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to try to dismiss the slowdown as a business decision: “We haven’t pulled anything back. There are terms of service that ultimately need to be complied to. And that’s where Starlink has the option to make those decisions, but nothing’s changed from our view. We haven’t made any directives or anything like that.” He added: “[W]e wish the Ukrainians, obviously, success.”

After the slowdown caused a public uproar, the Wall Street Journal reporters write, representatives from SpaceX, the parent company of Starlink, called the White House to coordinate messaging to say that Starlink and the administration had agreed to the slowdown ahead of time.

Musk’s decision to change the course of a war with “a seeming flick of a switch,” taking it upon himself, with or without the complicity of White House officials, to reverse the foreign policy of the United States of America for the benefit of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin, is a stunning assumption of power reminiscent of Revolutionary War general Benedict Arnold’s weakening of the Americans’ defenses and draining of supplies at the strategic fort at West Point to enable the British to capture it before he was discovered and defected to the British Army.

Another lens through which to see this story is the apparent eagerness of White House officials to turn Musk into a scapegoat for a decision they were happy to endorse until it blew up in their faces.

A New York Times story by Tyler Pager suggests a different leak from the White House. Pager relates that billionaire Venezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini wanted a presidential pardon. His family hired Alina Habba, a former Trump lawyer who at the time was working at the Justice Department, as general counsel at a company, Concord Partners, that was launched by Herrera’s daughter, has no public profile and whose business is unclear. Habba’s contract is worth more than $50 million over four years. Just weeks after she began to work for Concord Partners, Trump granted Herrera a full pardon.

Habba denied having any role in the pardon and refused to describe her work for Concord Partners, but Pager reports that “[p]eople familiar with Ms. Habba’s contract said they believed that she was brought in to help with Mr. Herrera’s push for a pardon and expressed surprise at the scale of the compensation.”

Thomas Frank at Politico received a recording of a speech Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Cameron Hamilton gave today at a private conference in Little Rock, Arkansas, in which he said the Trump administration plans to shift responsibility for disaster management to the states.

Hamilton’s speech built on an internal memo from October 15, which Frank also covered, that said the administration seeks to turn disaster response over to local and state government, thereby “reducing federal dependency.” “Federal dollars should be building greater capability, not creating greater dependency,” Hamilton said today.

Today Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan of the New York Times reported that sources have told them that Trump wants to move the press out of the White House and that Bill Pulte, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency who has pushed to go after Trump’s political opponents for mortgage fraud, is one of those pushing the idea of restoring the press briefing room to its original form as a swimming pool. Another is Boris Epshteyn, the lawyer who has pushed the lawsuits the president has launched against journalists.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had the pool installed because swimming helped strengthen his muscles, weakened by polio. President Richard Nixon had it covered over and turned into a briefing room to accommodate the growing White House Press Corps. Haberman and Swan note that forcing the press out of the White House would be “highly symbolic. The proximity of the media to the seat of U.S. executive power has long been an acknowledgment of the importance of a free press in a constitutional democracy.”

These four stories, just from today, encapsulate the administration’s betrayal of U.S. national security, its corruption, and its disregard for the welfare of Americans. It’s not a great record to run on, and the leaks from the administration show that at least some insiders are aware of how unpopular and dangerous that record is.

And so, Trump is pulling out all the stops to keep Democrats from winning control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.

In what appears to be a transparent attempt to shore up wavering support from a constituency that until recently was one of his most loyal, Trump announced yesterday that the Agriculture Department would provide $8 billion to help farmers slammed by the high cost of diesel. Kevin Draper of the New York Times reported that rates of payment will be announced next month, and the money will come no sooner than late November or early December, well after the election.

Trump announced the prospective payments at an event for Republican senator Roger Marshall of Kansas, whose reelection campaign is facing a strong challenge from Democrat Adam Hamilton. Meredith Lee Hill and Grace Yarrow of Politico report that Marshall had asked Trump for the program. Republicans like Marshall are hoping Trump’s announcement will help stop the flow of voters away from the Republicans and toward the Democrats in the farm states. Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, whose reelection is uncertain given the strength of his Democratic challenger Rebecca Cooke, said: “This will go a long way to making sure the folks that feed us have it a bit easier when they most need it.”

But Trump officials told Hill and Yarrow that the fund Trump intends to use for the payments—a taxpayer-funded account in the Department of Agriculture—doesn’t have enough money in it to make the payments. Either Congress will have to add more to it, or the administration will have to take the money from a different program.

Top agricultural groups say farmers need at least $50 billion to make up for the impact of tariffs, disasters caused by weather, and the high cost of fuel and fertilizer caused by the war on Iran.

Trump told the Kansas audience at the announcement that if they reelect Marshall, he will also allow year-round sales of gasoline containing 15% ethanol, a big deal for corn growers. But, he added, “if Adam Hamilton is in, I’m not doing it.”

Still, Democrats are not letting the White House change the subject from its betrayal of Ukraine. This morning, Representative Jim Himes (D-CT) posted a video, saying he had just gotten off a phone call with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky and a number of other representatives and senators.

“I was just appalled by what I learned,” he said. “The president said that Starlink—Starshield—has been throttled so that the Ukrainians can no longer intercept most of the Russian drones that are wreaking havoc at schools and hospitals and civilian centers. He said that they are completely out of missile interceptors. And make no mistake: that’s our fault.

“More significantly, that's the fault of Donald Trump, who has now shown his hand as an ally of Vladimir Putin and Elon Musk. We can't really get straight answers about whether it’s Elon or Donald Trump, but at the end of the day, because they throttled Starlink, Ukrainians are dying.

“In the call, I made the point to some of my colleagues, which is, it’s time to accept that Donald Trump is rooting for a Russian victory here. And that the Congress needs to step up and actually pass veto-proof legislation. Enough dilly-dallying with the secretary of state in the Oval Office. We need to step up and pass veto-proof legislation that will provide assistance, military aid, and access to Starlink for the Ukrainians. That's the only way this is gonna get done, and it needs to get done now.

“Ukrainians are dying, and Putin will win this if Donald Trump has his way,” Himes said, “[W]e're going to act as a Congress and override this president's desire to see Vladimir Putin win.”

Tell me where you want to start.

Off the top of my head, there were two chances to impeach Trump. The second being nixed by one "Mitch McConnell" on the grounds that it was for the courts to punish Trump, not Congress. (Based on a close reading of the constitution that is never applied to the second amendment, in my limited understanding).

I think citizens unite?. Something is rumbling in the in the old memory banks, so I need to look it up to remind the old data processor. To do with money in politics. Here it is -

How “Citizens United” Changed Our Politics | Columbia Magazine

Yup. That SCOTUS judgement needs reversing, or legislated against ( But I think an amendment is needed). Because as it is, Trump can throw effectively unlimited amounts of money at any election. Including primaries. And when he can do that, it is unlikely any Repub will go against him.

There is also that Clinton era reg that was dumped, that allowed Fox news to exist? Back to the web .... I think it was this -

The Telecommunications Act of 1996: The Law That Shaped Your Digital World (uslawexplained.com)

No, thinking hard... I think it was that combined with the fairness doctrine that Reagan scrapped in '87. So not something Clinton dumped. Reagan done the dumping, Clinton done the additional bit.

The Fairness Doctrine: A Guide to America's Lost Rule of Media Balance (uslawexplained.com)

I can't remember the details sorry. But somehow the two combined to allow news to be as biased as it wanted. And Fox news on all day, does not informed voters make.

How “Citizens United” Changed Our Politics

Since the US Supreme Court ruling, an unprecedented amount of money has poured into American elections.

Ah, I see the problem. I was remembering that the US doesn't have the concept of an "opposition" so I was expanding the question to all lawmakers

If we are limiting ourselves a subset that is "lawmakers that are not members of the GOP" then by definition they are unable to exert influence by dint of not being in power.

But as a whole it was once the role of congress to check and balance the executive. As some (presumably unapproved) history books will record.

The UK has a similar vein of argument. You will find posters who are convinced that it was Labours fault Brexit went so badly.

AcrossthePond55 · 21/10/2026 15:29

As long as the GOP has the majority in both houses, there will be little to no resistance to anything Scrotus wants. One hand is currently washing the other. But a 'big enough' flip in either house could effectively stop him as far as things he wants being able to pass Congress.

For the House a slim majority would be enough to defeat legislation, but in the Senate the Dems would have to have more than a 2 seat majority since Vance is the tie breaker and Fetterman often seems to be voting with the GOP these days.

It would be even better to have a supermajority but that's not likely to happen. It has happened plenty of times before. Gingrich effectively stopped Clinton's agenda back in the 'Tea Party' days. And who was it that said their #1 job was to see that none of Obama's agenda was ever passed, making him a one term POTUS? Ah yes, 'Yertle' McConnell.

13 days to the midterms. But I'm sure we won't get the final results for days to weeks afterward. I'm sure there will be a plethora of interference with the counting of ballots and announcing/certifying the results and many lawsuits filed, especially in Blue states and states and districts that have been flipped. The new legislative session doesn't start til Jan 2027 so I have a feeling things are going to drag on.
