It is worrying that it seems that intelligence had no idea about these people and weren't watching them. Base security hadn't picked them up either by patrols or camera.

The farmer says she saw more than 5 people and only 5 were arrested. They legged it when they saw her so it sounds like some have got away.

That doesn't tie in with reports from some locals (TBF unconfirmed) that the base increased security measures to at least to some extent on Saturday...if that's true it hints at intelligence knowing something.

If the supposed terrorists didn't make it as far as the airfield fence you wouldn't expect base CCTV to.pick anything up.

We need to be aware a lot of what intelligence did/didn't know and the fine details of everything that went on Sat/Sun probably won't ever get into the public domain.

This is very worrying and I'm surprised a cobra meeting hasn't already been called. The IRGC's work is being made easier for them, that's for sure. Getting your people into the back yard of your adversaries, with such ease.

Their party conference is now important to them than the terror crisis.

Let's hope they don't get hecklers interrupting their proceedings.

I live in a nearby town, lots of us here were worried when our Government agreed to let the US fly their bombers from Fairford. We said the area would be a target. I know lots of people would disagree with me but its not our war, I wish the Government had told Trump to fuck off.

Do you not think we were a target before Trump?

Weeellokthen · 28/09/2026 09:12

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 28/09/2026 07:11

We would be, but that is because we have all ( in Europe but especially us and especially after Brexit) become overly dependent on them, so much of our defence comes from them and we've let ourselves become their 'yes' country. We witter on about our ' special relationship' which is more or less one sided. The silly thing is that the reason why we don't pay as much for our security is because the US bankrolls NATO. Without the US we would have to pay more into defence. We would have no choice. We could have gone in with France instead of the US for our nuclear deterrent and been equal partners instead of Americas poodle but we all decided not to bother. Trumps instability at least is eroding the overdependence.

Faslane,

But by helping Zelensky we are pissing off Russia.

I’m not sure I agree that this particular mess is down to us?

Russia is permanently pissed off with the UK and has been since at least the 1970s. It's not a new state of affairs. Blaming it on our support for Ukraine is naive and simplistic.

fatsausages · 28/09/2026 09:32

TemperanceWest · 28/09/2026 08:11

The conspiracy theories begin.

I think we should all look a little further than the end of our noses, the media have been proved to bend the truth a little, and as I said IF Trump is right then Burnham has lied to our faces.

Remember Anne Widdecombe death, how the media were so quick to tell us they had arrested a guy only 30 mins from her home, that wasn't the guy, let's see how long it takes them to name the guys that got arrested... Because if they were John, Pete, Steve and Dave it would be all over the news.

So no conspiracy theories here, just observations as sometimes things aren't quite what the media and government will have us believe.

Do you think Russia are even more 'pissed off' with us now due to our support for Ukraine? Most European countries agree that the threat has increased.

True, and not only with the UK, but the West in general.
I once watched a 1984 interview with Yuri Bezmenov, a KGB defector, where he explained how the Soviet Union used tactics of ideological subversion to slowly destabilise Western societies from within.

Yet Burnham’s priority seems to be reforming social care for older people. My first thought on hearing that was,

’the way things are going, none of us will be around to need care’.

Of course they might be ‘more pissed off’ that they couldn’t just launch an attack on their neighbours completely unchallenged.

Fortuity · 28/09/2026 08:11

You're confusing several issues. Right wing thugs dressing up in balaclavas in Portsmouth and trying to look threatening absolutely deserve every bit of blame they get, and they are not any sort of deterrent against Iran shipping in trained operatives to try to sabotage military operations. The notion that they would rely on randomers coming in on boats is risible.

naive, just so naive.

beguilingeyes · 28/09/2026 10:01

"I'm on the fence with this tbh, how many past presidents all said
"Iran must never be allowed to have nuclear weapons "
Obama, Clinton, Bush, all said it but done nothing, along comes Trump and actually does something!!! Yet he's the bad guy.?"

That's not true. Obama had a agreement with them limiting their nuclear programme (the JPCOA) but Trump tore it up when he came into office and foolishly followed Netanyahu into a war that he cant win, screwing us all in the process.

Not especially. The threat has increased, yes, but I think more because the war in Ukraine provides Russia with the opportunity to weaken western Europe and the EU. They see the UK as a major player in Western strength and cohesion. They are irritated that we are still so closely aligned with the rest of Europe despite leaving the EU - I think they would have hoped it would weaken Europe more than it seems to have. The threats have increased because if they can persuade one of the major western European powers to break ranks, the rest of Europe's resolve might crumble. The UK is probably an appealing target to them as we've already distanced ourselves from Europe to some extent due to Brexit. Which is why we should definitely stand firm with our European neighbours in our support of Ukraine.

Yes I find that odd.

Whatever people want to say about Trump and I'm no fan of his - to make out he or the US are more dangerous to the UK than Iran is nonsense.

Iran fucking hate the West!

Trump is a threat to the West because his support of other western nations is unreliable. The threat from countries like Iran and Russia is increased due to Trump's apparently fickle support for his allies. He is a threat because he is enabling other nations to be bolder in their threats.

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 28/09/2026 10:39

inamarina · 28/09/2026 08:23

Do you think it’s unlikely the trained operatives might come on boats?

Exactly. It's a known weak point. Half the people coming in on boats disappear completely to work for their smugglers in the drug trade. They don't even bother with the asylum system. No one can find them. If you are a hostile agent it's a massive no brainer to stick some terrorists on a boat, pay extra to make sure they were first on board and bobs your uncle. If they are caught they are stuck in a house with loads of young men with no money from who knows where, many of them Muslim, easy to be radicalised, if not they are free to do what they like and no one knows who they are. Yet Labour are fighting to get votes from a party that advocates open borders.

This.
So many posters suffering from ‘Trump

Made more embarrassing where the obsession with Trump is accompanied by childish orange nicknames.
