Maybe intelligence had informed Government of something potentially happening. Saying that if that was the case the intelligence couldn't have been that good if it was a member of the public who reported today's events.

Trump claiming credit when it seems like it was a fortuitous observation by a member of the public , I agree.

@bannabead

It was open before Trump started his idiotic war so it is not in our interests to support the war which caused it to be shut.

I'm on the fence with this tbh, how many past presidents all said
"Iran must never be allowed to have nuclear weapons "
Obama, Clinton, Bush, all said it but done nothing, along comes Trump and actually does something!!! Yet he's the bad guy.?

Yes the way he went about it looks to be all wrong, no one was expecting this outcome.

America are our strongest ally , always have been , always hopefully will be. We have to help them if asked, because god forbid anyone tries to bomb UK , no one else will come to our rescue except America.

Agree. The point is that we don't know who these people are. They could be doctors and care workers or they could be criminals terrorists or agents of foreign states infiltrating the UK in order to commit terrorist attacks. Other countries are far stricter while within the ECHR but we just rubber stamp people apparently.

the two categories aren't mutually exclusive which is a problem in itself.

Was it though? We know what our media are like, we also know if Trump is right that intelligence had been watching these men , then we also know that Burnham out and out lied to the public.

If intelligence had been watching them, Burnham knew, IF they are here illegally then that's more egg on Burnhams/Labour faces, so it's so much easier to say a lady farmer saw them in the dead of night, that let's government off the hook.

After the last 2 years , it's hard to believe anything that comes from our media and government.

This is very worrying and I'm surprised a cobra meeting hasn't already been called. The IRGC's work is being made easier for them, that's for sure. Getting your people into the back yard of your adversaries, with such ease.

We don't know yet though. They could have been radicalised British born.

Why the need to mention “lady” farmer.

Err what point are trying to make there?

According to multiple reports a lady farmer phoned in the sighting.....do we have to run everything through a sex/gender filter before posting here?

I imagine the point was that the sex/gender qualification was irrelevant and didn't need to be brought in at all.

A farmer was driving home from a party and called the police after observing suspicious activity.

Do you have intel on who the plotters are?

Terrifying. We have absolutely NO IDEA who is being waved into the country, nor do the government or the security services, it seems. Its time they listened to the people instead of blaming so called "far right thugs" for the issues ordinary people are having to face day to day.
We are now a t the stage where we are letting child sex offenders off with probation while imprisoning others for throwing a plastic bottle at the police

You're confusing several issues. Right wing thugs dressing up in balaclavas in Portsmouth and trying to look threatening absolutely deserve every bit of blame they get, and they are not any sort of deterrent against Iran shipping in trained operatives to try to sabotage military operations. The notion that they would rely on randomers coming in on boats is risible.

This emergency means Burnham and Mahmood are now forced to drop the facade that numbers coming in have been substantially reduced. A massive test for Burnham's leadership. He wanted it, he's got it. People are out to kill his citizens and that comes before insubstantial domestic issues.

Trump claiming credit when it seems like it was a fortuitous observation by a member of the public , I agree.

As you point out there are currently two different explanations of what happened:
a) the Trump version in which the alleged terrorists had been under surveillance for some time and were intercepted as they were about to launch an attack. Which raises the question of why did British Police wait until they were only 350 metres away from the base before arresting them. Or
b) The British explanation that they were arrested after the farmer on her way back from a party saw the road blocked by the vans and called the police. Which raises the question of why British security services were completely unaware of the plot and does our counter terrorism intelligence now rely on Neighbourhood Watch and farmers?

Lab Government spokesman in July 2026: "Our Armed Forces are ready to keep the United Kingdom safe from any kind of attacks, whether it's on our soil or from abroad. The UK stands ready 24/7 to defend itself."

Why would you think that though?

Mostafa Sepahvand, Farhad Javadi Manesh, and Shapoor Qalehali Khani Noori:In May 2025, counter-terrorism police arrested and charged these three Iranian former asylum seekers. They had originally arrived in the UK through irregular means (including small boats and lorries) to claim asylum. They were prosecuted under the National Security Act 2023 for conducting espionage and hostile state activity on behalf of the Iranian government. Sepahvand was explicitly charged with executing surveillance and reconnaissance to commit acts of serious violence against a person within the UK.

I can see that argument but firstly it's an expression that is being widely used in the MSM.

Secondly if the use of "lady" causes so much concern that it's worthy of raising tangential concerns about it's use during a discussion of a potential terrorist attack in the UK then the poster is right, the country is in "grave trouble"....but perhaps not just for the reasons they think.

We're losing the ability to concentrate on the essentials.

So what IS the deterrent against these people then?
Oh silly me, their isnt one
Instead we get the RNLI on standby, ambulances, police, and coaches to gives them a hero's welcome and escort them to their new cozy billets.
Whats not to like?

Do you think it’s unlikely the trained operatives might come on boats?

Well I'm ex military in my 40s and I've not received that letter.

A colleague of mine has and he says he's been told they are going to put the age of potential recall up to 60!!!!! I said not been funny they can't send you out to the field at 60 and he said no but there is other stuff he could do.

It is worrying that it seems that intelligence had no idea about these people and weren't watching them. Base security hadn't picked them up either by patrols or camera.

The farmer says she saw more than 5 people and only 5 were arrested. They legged it when they saw her so it sounds like some have got away.

I think the talk of an age increase for reserve recall (or whatever the technical term is) to age 65 might be something to do with what's in the piece in the link below....I don't know if letters were sent out.

Some will probably be glad to know I'm past my sell by date even under the new rules..

The authorities have no idea where many of them are, never mind send them a letter 😬
