Is it? Try sitting in the waiting room at my local hospital. Every appointment booked is for 9am. Still sat waiting g at 1145

They don’t do that at the hospital we attend regularly. We were in five minutes before our appointment time yesterday.

Something like Tommo’s himself eh? Lol

I wouldn't know. Only see him talked about on here. Is that something you have in common, he makes up childish names as well? Ok.

The numbers aren’t down. If 40,000 people arrived in the boats last year (100,000 asylum seekers by all routes) and 20,000 arrive on the boats this year (say 50,000 by all routes) then the number of uninvited people, mostly men in the country is not down - it is up to 60,000 off the boats and 150,000 by all routes. Less 1 or 2 that get deported - but they are reasonably likely to come back anyway.

You know very well what I meant. The numbers arriving are lower by 40+% than they were the year before. Yes, that still means people are coming. Did you think it could be stopped overnight?

Council estate, why?

Because immigration and asylum impacts more heavily in poorer neighbourhoods or on people who have fewer assets and resources.

EasternStandard · 29/09/2026 10:39

I’m surprised enough people are still convinced by Labour’s arguments. Eg it’s worth it, one off, do your share. Perhaps after a term of trying to ‘smash the gangs’ as pledged people will vote for another system.

What system do you suggest? The Tories’ system of creating a backlog and introducing a deportation scheme that cost almost a billion and deported just one asylum seeker voluntarily wasn’t very clever.

Lucky you but that isn't the norm. My husband had an appointment last week. The waiting room was full and he was seen an hour and 15 minutes past his actual appointment time.

I’m not lucky. Most hospitals dropped the system of giving everyone the same time decades ago. If one hospital can do it they all can. It’s not my or anyone else’s fault - except possibly the management - if yours is still in the dark ages.

Yes, I have seen a few people defending him on your LiW thread.

EasternStandard · 29/09/2026 10:56

I’m glad people follow the best threads of course. The headspace and clicks people give him will help his financial situation etc

Happily I can avoid all mention on SM elsewhere, but he gets a lot of attention on mn.

Isn't it great that Burnham is changing this so more affluent parts of the country take their share?

He wasn't given the same time slot as everyone else. He had an appointment time of 11.15am but wasn't seen until 12.30pm which is why I said if you went in 5 minutes earlier than your appointment time you were lucky.

Wc or mc the people who want 1000 plus men waiting for asylum nearby are probably in a minority.

I wasn’t lucky. My hospital is clearly more efficient than yours. Complain.

Well Becky from MNHQ did post a link to the LiW thread in site stuff so people could read what she'd posted in response to reports MNHQ has received about it. So it is natural people might read the rest of the thread.

Not sure how the defence of Danny Thomas on LiW or the defence/criticism of him elsewhere on MN earns him money. Are you suggesting MN has some sort of "Tommo" affiliate links? That seems doubtful to me.

Because they were racially profiled and assumed to be terrorists because they 'looked Middle Eastern'? I can see why that would be hilarious alright.

What exactly is racially profiled got to do with 5 people acting dodgy in the middle of the night near a USA air base in the middle of nowhere.
You need to ease off the calling “racism”.
It’s what they were doing not who they are.
And if as it turns out they were stealing fuel not planning to blow up anything, then yes it is hilarious that they suddenly found themselves in the middle of a big operation when they were doing the lesser thing of stealing fuel.

The execution of the Rwanda scheme you seem to be alluding to was a mess, but the idea itself isn't exactly unique.
Germany, Denmark and several other EU countries have all been trying to set up third-country processing centres, including in Rwanda:

Germany:
Facing intense domestic pressure regarding migration, the German government has been exploring the feasibility of processing asylum claims in third countries and has actively looked into utilising existing structures in Rwanda.
Denmark: Denmark was actually the first European country to pass legislation (in 2021) allowing refugees to be moved to a third country. It initially paused its solo talks with Rwanda to push for a combined, bloc-wide European Union solution, which is now taking shape through the 2027 return hub proposals.

And if no one been there/contactable/able to pay would you have happy if she'd remained untreated?

I can't really answer your hypothetical question.
They were staying with a well-off Italian couple who were good friends with the other couple. One person in the English group was fluent in Italian and a frequent traveller to Italy.
I assume that something would have been organised by phone until the bill could be paid with the travel insurance. So it isn't really a comparable situation.

Lol - Daniel Thomas does go by his chosen name Danny Tommo. To appeal to his public followers I guess - to detract from his privately educated background - idk I wouldn’t be asking him.

Much as I find your posts (childishly) amusing I’m not sure of the general relevance to the thread?

Are you suggesting my nickname for Danny negates the facts I have given previously? Or that my posts need ignoring?

Posters are welcome to read or ignore my posts - and to engage or not with them. They more than likely don’t need this side issue of nicknames to make their choices - but I’m glad you are at least reading my posts - even if it’s just to check my level of maturity - something else may just sink in eh!

So the government of the day was so useless it couldn’t even achieve its own scheme what other countries did. What’s your excuse for the backlog they built up?

It’s a shame Starmer scrapped it on day one. If the UK want to follow they’ll have to start from scratch.

I did - because I have seen what I class as hatred on this thread - the word ‘vile’ and more used about asylum seekers. Lumping all as a homogenous group we don’t want.

I would like all people to be seen as individuals and then the hatred or maybe fear of the ‘group’ May fade.

It wasn’t working and was going nowhere, and a real waste of money.

This wasn’t even actually off shore processing - if a claim succeeded then the asylum seeker would have to remain in Rwanda under HP and not come to the U.K.

It didn’t work and cost a lot of money. It’s a failed experiment that will never be attempted again. The way numbers are now decreasing it wouldn’t be necessary anyway.
