Tommo....what a guy. Why can't these people use their normal names. Thomas, too middle class I suppose.

Yes. Like Yaxley-Lennon.

I wonder if there will be tears from him again in court today. I do hope he is remanded in custody.

No it doesn’t. If the investigations had brought up no evidence, they’d have been released on no further action. Not police bail. They’ve been bailed because investigations are ongoing and there was no need to keep them in the police station any longer.

Crikey there are some real misunderstandings on this thread.

I didn't say there was no evidence ...but specifically it is very unlikely that there is any evidence of terrorism or of them attempting to carry out an act of terrorism. If either were suspected, then at this point, the police have absolutely no need to release them on bail. They can legitimately detain them for up to 14 days.

The very fact that they were released on bail so soon really does indicate that they have no evidence to suggest any involvement in terrorism. Probably evidence exists of other lesser crimes...e.g theft. Although as yet, no charges of any kind.

It's not difficult to understand.

So why list those people if their situation is incomparable to refugees?
The cost of the translation services to the NHS is a big factor and can’t be completely ignored, especially since we’re being told that asylum seekers come here specifically because they speak the language or have relatives here.

As an example of why people might need translation services to show it isn't straightforward. But if you can't imagine the difference in resources between a successful businessman, an affluent tourist or someone with their family close and a lonely, penniless refugee I guess there is something wrong with the education system in this country.

Cost of interpreters. Total annual cost £125 million. NHS 60 million. HM courts and tribunals £28.4 million. Local authorities and police 40 million. Dept for work and pensions £4 million.

I would have thought AI could do that for free these days.

Still, don't really want to make all those interpreters redundant - that won't help the benefits bill.

A lot of people are making a mint out of this. Serco, the main security organisation that staffs the hotels, the hotel owners and private landlords, interpreters and translators, tescos who provide ready meals, human rights lawyers providing legal aid. It is in nobody's interest to stop it, least of all the Government who are afraid of their backbenchers.

The money is vast, especially when adding illegal gains to legal.

Voters eventually might overturn the system, snd some will lose out financially as in your post but most will prefer not having the deaths at sea etc

Let's not forget that those who cant speak english get seen first since the interpreters are paid by the hour.
Us mere mortals are at the bottom of the pile.
Most other countries, if you dont know the lingo, you have to bring along someone who does.

Government costs on asylum seekers are reducing because they move to a different category and further costs them and for the families they bring here are accounted differently.

If anything, they cost more, because they have full access to public funding.

Exactly, once the government grants them asylum they can bring their families over and are then able to obtain social housing and a full range of benefits.

They're usually still a net drain on the public purse but they're no longer accounted in the asylum budget. There's the incentive for the HO to speed up the asylum backlog by rubber stamping applications.

NHS in England spends approximately £64 million per year on translation and interpretation services, according to the latest freedom of information data. This figure has more than doubled over a five-year period, rising from £31 million in 2020/21.
To manage these escalating costs, the NHS earmarked £73 million for a dedicated, multi-year translation contract framework to streamline how local trusts procure language services.
Also, bear in mind that if you have an appointment say, for an Outpatients Clinic, and there are people requiring a translator. they will be seen first. This is because the Trust doesn't want the translator hanging around doing nothing and having to be paid.
So these people are effectively queue-jumping again.

Another racket where public money is spent on making things worse for the British public. What an absolute shower all this is.

Which bit of the post was rubbish?

In many/some countries the health care provider will not supply a publically funded translator.

It's down to the patient to have the langauge skills or provide a translator out of their own pocket/use a friend or relative.

And proves your point how?

I was in our local hospital last week, in and out before the appointment time with all scans ordered and follow information.

What does this prove?

It's a massive gravy train. And the risk is unacceptable.

The government can treat the rapes and murders committed by asylum seekers as collateral damage but if or when we get another major terrorist attack, the public may lose their appetite for supporting this racket and all the vested interests who are feeding off it.

The Royal London Hospital is in Tower Hamlets and my brother was seen quickly after he became unwell. The care and after care he has received has been and remains outstanding. He lives in assisted living.

TemperanceWest · 29/09/2026 10:38

Has anyone watched 70 up? There was a clip from 1977 where Tony the cabbie was ranting about Pakistani people coming over and "taking" the houses and benefits etc. etc. Same script as today. I thought we'd moved on, but it seems some people's thinking has gone backwards.

I’m surprised enough people are still convinced by Labour’s arguments. Eg it’s worth it, one off, do your share. Perhaps after a term of trying to ‘smash the gangs’ as pledged people will vote for another system.
