Fairford latest: Counter terror police investigating if Iran is linked to RAF base bomb plot, Sky News understands | UK News | Sky News https://share.google/cU4wjxGZBYQtIb3sx

I couldn't find a thread on this breaking news. How awful for everyone involved.

Because Trump set the hares running on a terrorism theory presumably.

The Telegraph reported back in July that Iran had vowed to attack RAF Fairford following Burnham's decision to renew permission for the US to use the British base to launch air strikes.

I expect the base has been on high alert and can see why this incident would have immediately aroused suspicion for a suspected attack.

Was this farmer breathalyzed after driving home from the party at 1am?

You don't have to drink alcohol at a party, maybe you do though. I don't drink at all and many others don't so wouldn't expect to be automatically breathalysed after going out

Added to the list for this thread's conspiracy theories.

I dont disagree that it is unproved so technically is a conspiracy theory but on the other hand its well know that Trump received large sums of money from Russian linked companies/ banks. https://www.ft.com/trumptoronto?syn-25a6b1a6=1

As an immigrant myself, I find the logic in that post you’ve quoted quite bonkers.
Do people not realise that a country doesn't just have to let everyone in and hope for the best?
You can intentionally bring over qualified doctors on targeted work visas, rather than just hoping to find a few of them among thousands of undocumented arrivals.

This is such a good point. The argument is that we shouldn't worry too much if there are rapists, murderers and terrorists among the asylum seekers, because there may also be a few doctors among them.

Anyone who thinks that has had a logic bypass.

The lawyer to whose post you responded. Did you not recognise them? You’ve been here longer than me.

I recognise them in relation to school appeals, not police matters.

You can speak only for yourself, not for the farmer.
She could well have been drunk. I like to know if the police were doing their job properly.
It is pretty standard the police breathalyze you, if the didn't do it to her, then

Jeez give it a rest. With the information she called in they had much bigger fish to fry that night than satisfying your demands a person calling 999 should be breathalysed.

Is it? I’ve never been breathalysed in 40 odd years of driving.

5MinuteArgument · 28/09/2026 21:20

Illegal immigrants are housed, fed, clothed, given access to doctors and dentists and lawyers, buses into town and pocket money to spend.

This is by any measure a generous package. Gov.uk details what they will get upon arrival on our shores.

Edited

No they are not. You are talking about asylum seekers here and not illegal immigrants. Asylum seekers are here legally from claiming asylum to having it decided.

The illegal immigrants are normally those who enter legally and overstay their visas - they can access very, very little and have to hide from authorities really.

MsJinks · 28/09/2026 21:56

inamarina · 28/09/2026 21:19

But a country should be able to decide whether or not they want to let in ‘a variety of people’.
And if there’s no legal pathway the country of your choice, that shouldn’t mean that you get into a boat and go there anyway.

Yes a country can have rules about visas etc. and set regular migration targets or limits. It can also have its own laws/rules on asylum seekers, but then it does have to also take account of international rules and agreements.

People who get on boats are coming to seek asylum - fleeing persecution- not able to use a regular visa route - it’s different altogether really.

Were they stealing diesel or is that just speculation?

No idea who Fanny is? Typo?

Speculation really.

Fanny - Danny Tommo - that nice guy who slashed a dinghy with an official onboard. Same one who attempted to kidnap wrong person a while ago. The judge then talked of his stupidity but I won’t do that!

Once again or is it twice again - the argument actually was that asylum seekers are people - good and bad amongst them.

Does everyone have to be breathalysed driving after a party? Or only if they’re calling something in?

Not sure why it’s important- she clearly wasn’t having DTs at least, as some guys were picked up - so not sure what difference it would make?

EasternStandard · 28/09/2026 22:08

MsJinks · 28/09/2026 19:40

Of course there are work visas and I did not suggest sifting asylum seekers to fit jobs - rather I said they’ll be made up of a variety of people, not all murderers and not all doctors.

Immigration will not stop - entering the U.K. illegally is currently the only way to claim asylum - this will not stop when with some safe routes. We need to manage our expectations around this and continue to run a clear and open system. I do think governments of all shades should be a bit more honest around all immigration but I’ve not lived under one of those yet and doubt I will!

My main aim on this thread was to try and get posters to stop the hate - these are people - stop hating humans for being an asylum seeker - see them as a person. Obviously, you can see despicable people as despicable and despise or dislike them - but not just because you think they’re seeking asylum is my point.

I’m actually not sure how this is being debated on this thread about a foiled terror attack that anyway seems not to have been.

On the immigration will not stop, assuming you mean asylum claims, some countries have revised numbers quite markedly.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 28/09/2026 20:08

The Manchester bomber was also a British citizen. As were the grooming gangs.

If British citizenship is being used to make a point about an entire group, then the same logic would mean highlighting Wayne Couzens, the white British police officer who murdered Sarah Everard; Barry Bennell, the white British football coach who sexually abused boys; and Lucy Letby, convicted of murdering babies. Individual criminals don't represent an entire ethnic or national group.

Hmmm. Person rings to report potential terrorist attack situation. Police turn up and say ‘before we go look into suspected bomb attack, I just need to do a breathalyser on you first…..’ Doesn’t make sense does it……..

I would say, based on probabilities on the back of the outcome of some of the vetting on these people, that most are in the ‘bad’ group.

placemats · 28/09/2026 22:15

Might there be a correlation between the massive rise in petrol and derivatives due to intransigence on Trump's part and the thieving actions of these men in stealing red diesel?

Adelle5923 · 28/09/2026 22:18

Neddevine · 28/09/2026 16:23

Yes, so if the police haven't used any of the extra powers to detain them longer, it rather suggests that they are not actually suspected of having committed an act of terrorism.

Does it? Police bail means the police need more time to investigate, not that they’ve already decided not to charge them. They were arrested for preparing acts of terrorism, so they are suspected of it.

If a suspect is formally arrested under specific counter-terrorism legislation, the laws are much stricter:
• Maximum Limit: Police can hold a suspect without charge for up to 14 days under the Terrorism.

Hold on a minute. Iran have threatened to target a specific military base, a lady saw suspicious activity by that military base, did the right thing and reported it to the police and all you're concerned about is whether or not she was breathalysed even though you have no idea if she'd been drinking! Honestly, if that had been a terrorist attack that lady would have saved many lives.

Up to 14 days, not a minimum of 14 days. They don’t have to hold them for 14 days.

She wasn’t stopped by the police, she made a 999 call. I don’t think the police go round breathalysing everyone who makes a 999 call. And even if she was drunk, it doesn’t mean she shouldn’t or can’t call 999 and be taken seriously.
