Fairford latest: Counter terror police investigating if Iran is linked to RAF base bomb plot, Sky News understands | UK News | Sky News https://share.google/cU4wjxGZBYQtIb3sx

I couldn't find a thread on this breaking news. How awful for everyone involved.

She did the right thing reporting it given it’s near an airbase.

And as a farmer I don't expect her to be that sympathetic to red diesel thieves.

TBF I think it was right to report the suspicious behaviour even if it was not terror related.

I think 3 vans containing men of middle Eastern appearance parked right outside an RAF base in the dead of night might just raise a slight suspicion of something terrorist activity. Specifically because Iran has warned the UK that they were sending "armies" across.

If they actually got on to the base they would likely have been shot. Unlike us, the yanks dont fuck about

Yep. Of course she did. It’s not like she’s meant to hang around to assess if they’re terrorists or fuel thieves.

There was an aid worker on that boat.

Actually the facts were that the boat was empty then there was an attempt to puncture it during which an rescue worker got back on board it.

I bet that farmer feels a bit stupid now

At least she didn't call an urgent Cobra meeting - that was Andy Burnham.

Yes exactly. It wasn’t the farmer who evacuated the village either. All she did was call 999 and tell people to lock their doors.

1dayatatime · 28/09/2026 21:11

Actually I can't imagine that the resident jihadis sponsored by Iran are going to be that happy about a bunch of clueless fuel thieves causing security to be ramped up at Fairford making their future attack plans that much more difficult.

I do think where you are born matters yes.

I've known several people who were born overseas, because their British parents were working there at the time. They include parents working for the Foreign Office, the British Council and big UK companies like ICI.

My father was working in Venezuela when my brother was born. If my mother hadn't refused to leave the UK and had given birth in Venezuela, would that make my DB Venezuelan in your eyes?

Trump is a Russian asset and who knows what his exact goals are.

Added to the list for this thread's conspiracy theories.

What is the difference between red and white?

red is agricultural use only. It’s cheaper than white.

I completely agree, in that I don’t think the witness, or the police, or the Prime Minister should feel silly at all. It’s right for an incident like this near an incredibly sensitive base to be taken seriously.

The only people I think should reflect on their behaviour are those individuals in the media and elsewhere who have been making wild speculations, spreading conspiracy theories and expecting the counter terrorism police to give continuous updates on a live investigation.

As an aside, a Russian man was apparently amongst the twenty-one migrants who arrived by small boat unescorted last week.

More people arriving in Cornwall today - by small powerboat this time;

So kids born in Germany or Hong Kong or Belize or Gibraltar
are not British
because their families were posted overseas ?

I agree with all that. I still think - while investigations are ongoing - as Prime Minister, chairing a COBRA meeting to get a full picture was the right thing to do.

And I have a feeling that if the Prime Minister hadn’t held a COBRA meeting, plenty of people on this thread - some of whom I get the impression are determined to hate the government no matter what - would have been in up in arms about that too.

Edited

Agree,
it seems certain posters are here to only do that very one thing. It’s quite obvious once you’ve spent a bit of time here.

Maybe these guys forgot to live stream themselves doing a criminal act like Fanny did.

It’s not 2 tier justice - maybe endangering life at sea is more of an offence than nicking diesel - maybe as there isn’t the live stream footage or any other sufficient evidence to charge them with anything - Tommo was charged, these have not been.

Were they stealing diesel or is that just speculation?

No idea who Fanny is? Typo?

ThatElatedTaupeMember · 28/09/2026 21:17

Speculation. I cant find any news link to it.

The other thing I heard a bit today, before the fuel thing, was politicians talking about security being a joined effort etc involving the public. So the newest posts re the farmer aren’t fair at all.

Unless posters are saying people shouldn’t bother due to apparent embarrassment. That’s not going to help.

The Times View

Police investigating Widdecombe killing sowed needless confusion.

The bizarre initial refusal of officers to countenance a political motive resulted in exactly the outcome they were so anxious to avoid: a backlash.

https://www.thetimes.com/comment/the-times-view/article/police-investigating-widdecombe-killing-sowed-needless-confusion-zltwfmj2c

That is poor reporting by the Times (and, since it is in the Comment section, this is an opinion piece by a journalist who did not attend the press conferences and clearly did not pay proper attention to them).

The police press conferences were televised and are still available online for anyone who wants to watch them. Faced with a question asking if there was a political motive, they responded that they did not have any information pointing towards a political motive but they were keeping their minds open. There was no refusal to countenance a political motive.

Were they really of middle Eastern appearance though? I'm not sure that's how I would describe the men shown in the photos.

Of course there are work visas and I did not suggest sifting asylum seekers to fit jobs - rather I said they’ll be made up of a variety of people, not all murderers and not all doctors.

Immigration will not stop - entering the U.K. illegally is currently the only way to claim asylum - this will not stop when with some safe routes. We need to manage our expectations around this and continue to run a clear and open system. I do think governments of all shades should be a bit more honest around all immigration but I’ve not lived under one of those yet and doubt I will!

My main aim on this thread was to try and get posters to stop the hate - these are people - stop hating humans for being an asylum seeker - see them as a person. Obviously, you can see despicable people as despicable and despise or dislike them - but not just because you think they’re seeking asylum is my point.

I’m actually not sure how this is being debated on this thread about a foiled terror attack that anyway seems not to have been.

But a country should be able to decide whether or not they want to let in ‘a variety of people’.
And if there’s no legal pathway the country of your choice, that shouldn’t mean that you get into a boat and go there anyway.

You put more credence in a newspaper opinion piece than a lawyer’s analysis?

Which lawyer? Another article from the Times -

Jonathan Hall KC, the government’s independent reviewer of terrorism, told Times Radio that Devon and Cornwall police “probably broke one of the golden rules of investigations”.

Hall said: “I don’t understand why Devon and Cornwall police were steering the public away from the idea that this was a terrorist case and I don’t know why they didn’t simply say they had an open mind as to the motivation...

You’ll be glad to know that illegal immigrants are not allowed to access housing, benefits, work and only angel care in the NHS then.

Illegal immigrants are housed, fed, clothed, given access to doctors and dentists and lawyers, buses into town and pocket money to spend.

This is by any measure a generous package. Gov.uk details what they will get upon arrival on our shores.

So do I. Particularly when they attack RNLI volunteers.

These pile ons are outrageous.

Was this farmer breathalyzed after driving home from the party at 1am?
