Does everyone have to be breathalysed driving after a party? Or only if they’re calling something in?

Not sure why it’s important- she clearly wasn’t having DTs at least, as some guys were picked up - so not sure what difference it would make?

I think people only get breathalysed if someone reports them to the police not simply because they’ve left a party? Unless they’re witnessed driving erratically.

I’ve certainly never been breathalysed in nearly 33 years of driving.

Hold on a minute. Iran have threatened to target a specific military base, a lady saw suspicious activity by that military base, did the right thing and reported it to the police and all you're concerned about is whether or not she was breathalysed even though you have no idea if she'd been drinking! Honestly, if that had been a terrorist attack that lady would have saved many lives.

Imagine if the farmer HAD ignored the strange goings on right next to a military Base and it turned out to be a catastrophic terrorist attack.
Imagine if the authorities HADNT ignored the clear danger that the "Welsh choirboy" posed and the brutal Southport attack was prevented.......

Yes a country can have rules about visas etc. and set regular migration targets or limits. It can also have its own laws/rules on asylum seekers, but then it does have to also take account of international rules and agreements.

People who get on boats are coming to seek asylum - fleeing persecution- not able to use a regular visa route - it’s different altogether really.

People who get on boats in France - what kind of persecution are they fleeing exactly?

Shakeoffyourchains · 28/09/2026 23:51

Dollymylove · 28/09/2026 21:01

The boat was empty and ready to set off back to France to pick up the next lot of doctors and engineers

Didn't realise the people smugglers had developed self-driving boats 😮

Point of order @5MinuteArgument
I’ve never heard anyone of any political persuasion (except maybe the odd anarchist) advocate for open borders.

Thanks for posting that. It's good to know who your enemy is. They have no loyalty to the UK, just like this government.

Her name was Rhiannon Whyte.

And maybe have a chat with Rhiannon Whyte's sister who is bringing up her child. She said that Rhiannon's murder had nothing to so with immigration, and that the actions of one man should not be blamed on a whole group.of people.

Well if Deng Chol Majek an asylum seeker from Sudan wasn’t allowed into the country and then to just stroll around freely then she would still be alive wouldn’t she? So I struggle to agree you can separate her death from immigration policy.

Yes, quite.

Does it? Police bail means the police need more time to investigate, not that they’ve already decided not to charge them. They were arrested for preparing acts of terrorism, so they are suspected of it.

But if suspected of terrorism, the police could detain the suspects for longer while they carry out further investigations. They did not need to release them on bail. So that points to there being no evidence of any terrorist activity.

cardibach · 28/09/2026 16:30

And it’s also true that over the year numbers are down. If I normally eat a bar of chocolate every day, but I don’t eat any for 10 days then on the 11th eat 4, while it’s not great for my health that day it’s still an overall reduction.

The numbers aren’t down. If 40,000 people arrived in the boats last year (100,000 asylum seekers by all routes) and 20,000 arrive on the boats this year (say 50,000 by all routes) then the number of uninvited people, mostly men in the country is not down - it is up to 60,000 off the boats and 150,000 by all routes. Less 1 or 2 that get deported - but they are reasonably likely to come back anyway.

Not necessarily. They've been released on strict bail conditions.

Seriously, no. There is no way they would give bail to someone they considered to be a terrorist. They have to consider the high likelihood of absconding, and the potential harm to the public.

Except that numbers actually are down by 50%, whilst boat arrivals are down by 70%. Many, many more than "1 or 2" get deported.

You might be right, you might not. On the surface it would seem unlikely suspected terrorists would be bailed.

SingingShrews · 28/09/2026 18:42

Because they were racially profiled and assumed to be terrorists because they 'looked Middle Eastern'? I can see why that would be hilarious alright.

Was it because they looked Middle Eastern - or was it because they were skulking around in the dark near a military base wearing balaclavas and scarpered when headlights hit them? Hmmm let me think…

You’ll be glad to know that illegal immigrants are not allowed to access housing, benefits, work and only angel care in the NHS then.

Funny how they all have a roof over their heads, food in their bellies and money in their pockets then? How do you square that circle?

I bet that farmer feels a bit stupid now.

Why has this thread been hijacked by the far right? Keep on topic.

Why would she feel stupid?
Whatever they were doing they were hardly upstanding citizens going about their lawful business. She was absolutely right to call 999 wasn’t she?

Winter2020 · 29/09/2026 01:14

MsJinks · 28/09/2026 19:40

Of course there are work visas and I did not suggest sifting asylum seekers to fit jobs - rather I said they’ll be made up of a variety of people, not all murderers and not all doctors.

Immigration will not stop - entering the U.K. illegally is currently the only way to claim asylum - this will not stop when with some safe routes. We need to manage our expectations around this and continue to run a clear and open system. I do think governments of all shades should be a bit more honest around all immigration but I’ve not lived under one of those yet and doubt I will!

My main aim on this thread was to try and get posters to stop the hate - these are people - stop hating humans for being an asylum seeker - see them as a person. Obviously, you can see despicable people as despicable and despise or dislike them - but not just because you think they’re seeking asylum is my point.

I’m actually not sure how this is being debated on this thread about a foiled terror attack that anyway seems not to have been.

The “safe routes” advocates need to look into the CBP1 app under the Biden administration. People could use the app from Mexico to apply to go to America. Resulted in people migrating to Mexico from Venezuela, Haiti and elsewhere and living in tent camps in order to apply using the app. Over 60 million applications on the app (not 60 million individuals as the same people could keep applying).

There are more uninvited arrivals in the country this year than last. Thousands more.

4% of people that arrived on small boats since 2018 have been deported. 4%.

to copy and paste the maths from a different thread:
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-march-2026/how-many-people-are-returned-from-the-uk

6.1 Returns of small boat arrivals
……..A total of 8,427 people who arrived on a small boat between 2018 and the YE March 2026 have been returned from the UK…….
end quote

A quick add up of arrivals (reducing the number to 10k for 2026 as the above talks about to March 2026 rather than September) comes to 202,633 small boat arrivals.
8,427 returns out of 202,633 arrivals (8,427/202,633 x 100) =4.159 %

Older versions of the government report actually stated the 4%. It has been removed but not much has changed.

The Government does not deport to Afghanistan or Sudan (it also says that on their website) so those nationalities are going nowhere. Maybe doing the migrant hokey kokey with in, out, in out, one in, one out with France deal.

If it dies turn out that they are diesel thieves then that will be a huge relief. I’m very impressed that the farmer did what she did. Trump and Rubio are clearly idiots and I strongly suspect are not told a lot by British intelligence because they themselves are a security risk.

pointythings · 29/09/2026 05:31

As always I despair of all the online idiots everywhere who froth themselves into conspiracy bollocks rather than just letting the police do their work.

My God you have a short memory, these three did not exactly cover themselves with glory, did they? Boris - corrupt, inept, pompous and stupid; Farage - lying pro-Brexit bullshitter with an EU passport; Liz - well, she is mad, isn't she?

Burnham - upset you with what? That he is Labour? I bet you would hate him no matter what his policies would propose. Just because, you know, Labour.

I never said Burnham upset me - you must be talking to another poster.
Please try and keep up.

Are you really that childish.

It is indeed - and yup I am indeed that childish - thank you.
