And my stepson. Apparently that’s a crime now.

And my DB. Does he have less right than my DSis and me to live here just because we happened to be born here? A simple accident of birth.

Because Trump set the hares running on a terrorism theory presumably.

So they had no information to believe her death was a politically motivated crime. That is not the same as saying definitively that it was not a politically motivated crime. And the press conference in question was broadcast, so we know exactly what the police said. They said they had no information to suggest it was politically motivated but that they were keeping an open mind.

It is true that, having initially ruled out terrorism, the Counter Terrorism Police took charge when new information emerged. That's what happens in investigations of this kind. Something will get ruled out based on the information available, but then additional information comes to light bringing it back in. However, to date the suspect has not been charged with any terrorist offences.

The Times View

Police investigating Widdecombe killing sowed needless confusion.

The bizarre initial refusal of officers to countenance a political motive resulted in exactly the outcome they were so anxious to avoid: a backlash.

I'm confused about this incident. I've read that the young men have been released on bail. Surely if they are as dangerous terrorists as has been painted, they would be too risky to warrant granting bail to? So what's that about?

They aren't terrorists afterall just common or garden crims nicking stuff hence bail.

I bet that farmer feels a bit stupid now.

Why has this thread been hijacked by the far right? Keep on topic.

I'd say there are many more posters on here who must feel extremely stupid, some of the comments are wild.

I do think where you are born matters yes.

Agree. Ideology vs reality.

You put more credence in a newspaper opinion piece than a lawyer’s analysis?

Normal diesel £2 per litre
Red diesel £1 per litre

vans painted up to cover moving fuel
how many months have those lads been nicking fuel from farms ?

For goodness sake, we have the exact same parents as he does. What complete lunacy is this?

At least she didn't call an urgent Cobra meeting - that was Andy Burnham.

Are you suggesting he shouldn’t have called a COBRA meeting? RAF Fairford is a strategically sensitive site used by the US Air Force. The President of the US tweeted that they had intelligence on the incident. Counter-terrorism police have been investigating whether the individuals involved were working as proxies on behalf of a foreign state. I think it’s probably quite important the Prime Minister and his government attempt to get a full picture of the incident. Not least to try and stem the kind of dangerous conspiracy theories this thread is full of.

What for reporting something suspicious?

Why would you think they would feel stupid, why do you want them to feel stupid?

It is so important that we don't turn a blind eye

Trump is trumping out of his backside.

Yes, Fairford is on high alert.
I will bet those lads had NO IDEA it was there.

They were hitting farms for red diesel
af they have done for months

AlwaysRightISwear · 28/09/2026 20:59

TBF I think it was right to report the suspicious behaviour even if it was not terror related.

tomandjamie · 28/09/2026 20:34

Well, Boris was mayor of London at one time and Nige spent 21 years as an MEP, can't really speak for Liz though because IMO she was a turncoat - she originally was a LibDem

My God you have a short memory, these three did not exactly cover themselves with glory, did they? Boris - corrupt, inept, pompous and stupid; Farage - lying pro-Brexit bullshitter with an EU passport; Liz - well, she is mad, isn't she?

Burnham - upset you with what? That he is Labour? I bet you would hate him no matter what his policies would propose. Just because, you know, Labour.

ilovebrie8 · 28/09/2026 21:00

She did the right thing reporting it given it’s near an airbase.

Wolmando · 28/09/2026 19:47

If they were just stealing diesel wouldn't they say, oh it's all ok they were just fuel thieves rather than let people be worried about what they had done and that they had been bailed

They maybe thought the alleged diesel thing was just a smokescreen for doing a security recce of the perimeter fence so had to check backgrounds and residences first for terrorist paraphernalia or something.

Maybe these guys forgot to live stream themselves doing a criminal act like Fanny did.

It’s not 2 tier justice - maybe endangering life at sea is more of an offence than nicking diesel - maybe as there isn’t the live stream footage or any other sufficient evidence to charge them with anything - Tommo was charged, these have not been.

I agree with all that. I still think - while investigations are ongoing - as Prime Minister, chairing a COBRA meeting to get a full picture was the right thing to do.

And I have a feeling that if the Prime Minister hadn’t held a COBRA meeting, plenty of people on this thread - some of whom I get the impression are determined to hate the government no matter what - would have been in up in arms about that too.

Viviennemary · 28/09/2026 19:33

It makes more sense than suspected terrorists let out on bail. Or petrol thieves taking three white vans to pinch some fuel. Maybe they were spies. But in three white vans and black balaclavas - hmm unlikely. Maybe they were filming the next James Bond.

All I ask is for you to reflect in about a week when the truth comes out about them simply being red diesel thieves and to consider that maybe just maybe you are susceptible to conspiracy theories and what you are going to do in future not to fall for them again.

There was an aid worker on that boat.
