I couldn't find a thread on this breaking news. How awful for everyone involved.

This has gone way beyond “vehement disagreement”.

It's such a non story, the main thing is that trump made such a comment about it.

She has nothing to feel stupid about. She saw something suspicious near an air base and reported it. Rightly so imo.

So now they're all out on bail and it is the deluded imaginings of a hysterical woman. I can see how this is going.

Well yes, it is now full of talk about men on boats and immigrants in general, (including the post directly above that you’re involved in), when it’s looking like (due to bail being granted at all) that this was a much less serious or misunderstood situation by a bunch of criminals from London.

The police aren’t going to bail a high threat terrorist cell.

Of course there are work visas and I did not suggest sifting asylum seekers to fit jobs - rather I said they’ll be made up of a variety of people, not all murderers and not all doctors.

Immigration will not stop - entering the U.K. illegally is currently the only way to claim asylum - this will not stop when with some safe routes. We need to manage our expectations around this and continue to run a clear and open system. I do think governments of all shades should be a bit more honest around all immigration but I’ve not lived under one of those yet and doubt I will!

My main aim on this thread was to try and get posters to stop the hate - these are people - stop hating humans for being an asylum seeker - see them as a person. Obviously, you can see despicable people as despicable and despise or dislike them - but not just because you think they’re seeking asylum is my point.

I’m actually not sure how this is being debated on this thread about a foiled terror attack that anyway seems not to have been.

My mom used to be an MOD guard at an airbase. (She retired last year) What I've never understood about our country, is why are our RAF/Army etc bases fucking signposted & on things like Google maps. I get old bunkers that are now visitors locations, but we should be protecting our military, not signposting it to everyone ffs

Why is it odd? They all lived in London. The Borough of Westminster isn't just Parliament and very rich people.

They are "British Nationals" apparently but doesn't mean they were not born abroad.

No one has said anything but that she should have reported it, nor said that she was hysterical. I have said it’s odd she spoke to, and was allowed to speak to, a lot of sm but I’ve not commented on her personally and not seen any other lists doing so - till now !

Apparently she saw the van had 1 less number in its advertised phone number than is needed to connect a phone call and this was enough for her to call the police because it was parked near to her farm.

I do wish we could keep this on topic. This thread is about the story, not about immigration.

If they were just stealing diesel wouldn't they say, oh it's all ok they were just fuel thieves rather than let people be worried about what they had done and that they had been bailed

Well when I first heard it, it was "British Nationals".

Apparently the farmer who saw them said there were more than 5 of them in Balaclavas running away from the vans, so more of the gang could be unaccounted for.

We will have to see if they give out any more info.

I know that now, but when it was first reported they said "British Nationals". Don't get on at me because someone is promulgating wrong info. I would expect that the BBC would get it right but maybe not?

I guess because at the moment they haven't been charged...(with fuel theft or anything), so the police can't simply come out and say "they've done X or Y.."..
