Fairford latest: Counter terror police investigating if Iran is linked to RAF base bomb plot, Sky News understands | UK News | Sky News https://share.google/cU4wjxGZBYQtIb3sx

I couldn't find a thread on this breaking news. How awful for everyone involved.

I know that now, but when it was first reported they said "British Nationals". Don't get on at me because someone is promulgating wrong info. I would expect that the BBC would get it right but maybe not?

Always important to read more than one news source.

Of course there are work visas and I did not suggest sifting asylum seekers to fit jobs - rather I said they’ll be made up of a variety of people, not all murderers and not all doctors.

Immigration will not stop - entering the U.K. illegally is currently the only way to claim asylum - this will not stop when with some safe routes. We need to manage our expectations around this and continue to run a clear and open system. I do think governments of all shades should be a bit more honest around all immigration but I’ve not lived under one of those yet and doubt I will!

My main aim on this thread was to try and get posters to stop the hate - these are people - stop hating humans for being an asylum seeker - see them as a person. Obviously, you can see despicable people as despicable and despise or dislike them - but not just because you think they’re seeking asylum is my point.

I’m actually not sure how this is being debated on this thread about a foiled terror attack that anyway seems not to have been.

But don’t you see how you are setting up a rhetoric of hate and division?

You are labelling the fears, worries and doubts many have as hate. No one has expressed anything hateful before you decided that’s what it was.

OK so you read 3 news' sources and they all give different info so who do you believe ?

If they were just stealing diesel wouldn't they say, oh it's all ok they were just fuel thieves rather than let people be worried about what they had done and that they had been bailed

No as they’re not fuel thieves until they are found guilty of such in a court - U.K. law. They can’t start telling everyone what they’re investigating without compromising it all and/or future court case.

My mom used to be an MOD guard at an airbase. (She retired last year) What I've never understood about our country, is why are our RAF/Army etc bases fucking signposted & on things like Google maps. I get old bunkers that are now visitors locations, but we should be protecting our military, not signposting it to everyone ffs

Those that really want to find out where RAF/HMS or whatever is would simply drag out an OS map or even a good car atlas.

The location of most major military installations can't really be hidden from those that want to find them.

moonraker0 · 28/09/2026 20:00

Funny how quickly the thread filled up when the news was announced that they have been granted bail. Up until a few hours ago there was tumbleweeds blowing around.

bafta16 · 28/09/2026 20:01

They are not allowed to work, so there's a flaw.

British Citizens, Mahmood has clarified.

Mr X is a British Citizen -

tomandjamie · 28/09/2026 19:48

What's that supposed to mean ?
What I posted was a statement of fact.
Sorry you don't like facts.

You said they may have been born abroad - of course they may - many British citizens are and our nationality laws account for this.

Anyway, I am sorry - I had thought you were trying to imply they weren’t perhaps fully British - I misunderstood then - I’m glad you accept British are British are British.

But they do work, Epping proved they do.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 28/09/2026 20:08

The Manchester bomber was also a British citizen. As were the grooming gangs.

Yay like Boris Johnson and Cliff Richard - are we reduced to recycling the bingo card now?

And my stepson. Apparently that’s a crime now.

What is ?
Your post makes no sense.

They're men in balaclavas running round in the dead of night. I want scum like that off the streets.

So do I. Particularly when they attack RNLI volunteers.

Clavinova · 28/09/2026 20:11

prh47bridge · 28/09/2026 17:03

No, they did not. The alleged chopping and changing came from people believing the police had said things they had not. For example, many people on here were adamant that the police ruled out a political motive in their first or second statement, when what the police actually said was that they had no evidence it was political but they were keeping an open mind.

Yes, the police initially arrested someone who turned out to be innocent, but that is what happens in investigations. It is also true that the counter terrorism police were initially involved, but reports the murder had been declared an act of terrorism were jumping the gun.

There is a tendency, particularly on social media but occasionally also in the press, for people to fill in the gaps with what they thought they heard rather than looking at what was actually said.

People like the BBC;

11 July - During a police press conference on Friday, Longman said the force had ruled out terrorism and had no information to believe Widdecombe's death was a "politically motivated crime".

Well, I'm wondering what they have actually done, probably other people are too.

When did that happen?

Before the portsmouth protest started, before it got dark and the coaches arrived. There's footage on youtube UKsploosh is the channel I think. He might have edited his video though.

If those appended were doing nothing more sinister than stealing a bit of (red, presumably) diesel….

Then there is a brilliant, poetic irony about Trump claiming we should all thank him, he’s one step ahead of the curve etc etc blah blah..

When he, with his un winnable war with Iran is the very reason it is now profitable and worthwhile to steal diesel in the first place…

Other than that, this whole toxic thread is almost a perfect example of exactly why speculation, without facts, is a really unhelpful thing to engage in.

Edited

Completely off topic but they don’t nick the red anymore. Police dip too many. They only go for white which a lot of farms have as well as red.

I was responding to a post and context has got lost I think.

Where was this reported?
Is there more than one report because I've been berated on this thread for not checking multiple sources of news items ?
