Try having a chat about that with Lianne White's mum who was stabbed to death by an asylum seeker who was at the hostel where she was working.

Try getting her name right.

Not at all otherwise you’d not be seeing similar in the EU. It’s domestic policy that changes it.

It most certainly is. Otherwise you would be seeing less people coming here on boats. Farage knew exactly what he was doing backing Johnson. For the 'Done deal, oven ready."

DesperateforSunshine · 28/09/2026 16:17

Im afraid not - they’ve going to been released on bail according to the BBC

They haven't been charged with an actual offence.

Pretty sure where there is suspicion of a terror offence police have more power to detained for longer than usual. I wonder why they aren't using those powers.
I have absolutely NO FAITH in the authorities any more.

Look at EU countries and their policies. The countries that have had success have done due to domestic policies. Eg Poland, Italy, Sweden. It’s nothing to do with Brexit.

The countries still struggling are not imposing similar hardline policies.

Tommy Robinson's and Daniel Thomas's boys certainly didn't have a clue. So much for defending our shores.

You forgot to mention Ireland and France.

Her name was Rhiannon Whyte.

And maybe have a chat with Rhiannon Whyte's sister who is bringing up her child. She said that Rhiannon's murder had nothing to so with immigration, and that the actions of one man should not be blamed on a whole group.of people.

Are you suggesting their policies are hardline? Why are you mentioning them, what’s their relevance?

Yes, so if the police haven't used any of the extra powers to detain them longer, it rather suggests that they are not actually suspected of having committed an act of terrorism.

How many countries are there in the EU, plus associate members?

You think they authorities would deliberately let them out on bail?

Here's a thought for you : perhaps the 'authorities' know a tad more about the case than you do.

1dayatatime · 28/09/2026 16:25

It's looking like they might have out stealing fuel (diesel and petrol) from farm and rural home storage (hence the drums). They were then disturbed transferring it between the vans when all hell broke loose from counter terrorism.

Probably not a good idea to be committing any illegal activity 300 metres from a major US airbase.

That said if this story comes out then there will be many conspiracy theorists dismissing it as a cover up.

The five men who were arrested and subsequently released on bail are all British citizens, home secretary Shabana Mahmood has just told the Labour party conference.

So what? It's ideology that matters not birth place. All 2005 bombers Brits and of course so was Abedi.

Anyway as released obviously not terrorists. You would think they'd get facts first before all the 'major terror plot foiled' announcements. So what were they doing just a bit of burglary?

placemats · 28/09/2026 16:26

The authorities are doing a fantastic job. As is the Government.

What has this to do with your post? There’s a difference between EU countries with hardline migration policies and those without. That’s what drives success with numbers, not Brexit as it’s irrelevant to them.

What ideology is that specifically?

You could back it up with figures and facts. What's the point of asking posters to to remind you of two facts you claim are true?

The figures are from the Government's website or do you think I have made that up. Yes I know it's hard to believe that 1655 migrants have crossed in just 6 days, but unfortunately it's true.

What post was that?

All you demonstrate is that some EU countries are using their sovereign rights to take a hard line.

The radical/extremist/terrorist variety specifically. Makes no difference if born here as we should all know.

juldan · 28/09/2026 16:30

bannabead · 27/09/2026 23:04

@juldan I am not sure what you are not getting?

All the things you have said whilst true doesn’t change the fact we are still an ally!!!! Have the government changed tack and i’ve missed it?

@bannabead
It’s you who is not getting it.
Things have changed since Trump came to power. USA is not a reliable ally any more. Trump has threatened multiple of times to withdraw USA from NATO. He cancelled the support for Ukraine, which is against European/UK interests. He invited Russian finance minister to G20 summit despite the war in Ukraine. He threatened not to back UK over Falklands. These are not actions of an ally.

There is a statement, which I have read multiple times on Mumsnet ; “If someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Trump has shown us who he is. I have 0% faith that he would do anything to protect our interests.
Therefore I don’t think we should support him in his illegal war against Iran.

Honestly? As I said I no longer have faith in the authorities.
I naively used to think as you do, that there must be a legitimate reason for actions like this. I no longer think like that. So many things are happening that are absolutely unfathomable to me. Perhaps more transparency is needed. I'm sick of being lied to.

There you go. Domestic policy determines numbers. We would have the same with similar hardline policies.

That would be the logical conclusion. But logic seems to be persona non grata on this thread.
