Is 8st too little for someone around 5ft 2?

Settle a debate. Do you think 8st is too little when you are 5ft 2ish? Size 8 clothing are perfect or a little loose. Age 41. Two kids. I know there’s no rules,it’s not me saying that there is but I need to hear opinions on this.

Fair enough.

Well in that case it could be that your family are just not used to you at that weight so they’re over-reacting. Your weight may well be absolutely perfect for your size and frame!

But I or anyone on this thread can’t tell you that for sure either way.

Eh yeah we can, she’s a healthy bmi Confused

Why on earth would she go and see a doctor. She’s a healthy weight.

funni enough it was my doctor who told me to loose the weight. I had some health issues and now they are gone…so that’s that sorted

Well done.

I got the "You're too thin!!" usually from people who wanted to lose weight but "couldnt". My sister who was the same size as me at my biggest was very supportive. A cousin who spent years telling anyone with ears that diets dont work, she is big and its not her fault was the first to say that I must be ill/have an ED/am too thin etc.

Luckily I rarely see her.

Are they bigger, are they jeakous as that’s some mean comments, why can’t you be that slim if you’ve had kids? What do they mean own it?

as said I’m taller and my bmi a smidge lower than yours and I certainly don’t look thin. I look slim, yes, but not thin.

My sister has always struggled with her weight, she was delighted when I put on weight after my dc. She is not happy that I’ve lost it again but she’s always been jealous of someone and something. My mum follows her lead

It’s a healthy BMI. My friend is 5’2” and has a tiny frame, small hips, small shoulders, tiny wrist and knee bones. If she’s over 8 stone, she actually starts to look chunky because her frame is so slight.

I don’t know everything about OPs situation but generally if a number of people close to you think you look excessively skinny and it’s a new thing, and maybe you’ve lost a significant amount of weight in a short period (without trying) it’s worth getting bloods done.

The same advice can apply if you’ve put on a noticeable amount of weight suddenly - even if you’re still a healthy BMI.

I am just loathe to tell an online stranger I’ve never seen that she she’s fine when 3 women in her life who might know her body the best ( outside of her and her husband) have concerns.

ETA: I’ve now read some of OP’s family are jealous of her weight loss and struggling with their weight so that obviously calls their “concern” into question and puts a different perspective on the whole intervention.

As I’ve always said - they may well be completely wrong.

Well that puts a different spin on it if at least one of the 3 “concerned” family members are jealous. And also the fact that Op was advised to lose weight by a doctor and it’s resolved health issues.

I stand corrected. Would’ve been good to have had this info in the first post.

Lougle · 26/09/2026 21:23

I think it depends, doesn't it? If you are large boned with big boobs, then 8 st isn't going to go far. If you're small boned with small boobs, it's enough.

I'm 5'8" with a small bone structure and small boobs. I'm 9st and that's fine for me now in my late 40s. When I was younger I struggled to get much above 8st, which was really skinny for my height (23½" waist when I married).

If you genuinely think you look healthy and your DH agrees, then your family may just need time to adjust to your smaller frame.

expsychmedlowopen · 26/09/2026 21:28

Definitely not. Im 172cm and weight is between 8stone and 8.3 (depending on the day) and I look healthy not to big but not to skinny.

Well everyone else found it completely obvious. She’s a healthy weight not underweight.

I would be a rich woman if I had a £ for every person who has told me "[I] don't look like [I've] had six kids!!". I have come to the conclusion that its because I am slim! So now I say "Oh really? What do people who have had six kids look like then?" in a joking way and it always shuts them up!

I find the dichotomy interesting. As a society we judge the very overweight but then we try and drag the ones who lose weight down because if they can do it then so can every one else. No excuses in the majority of cases, and they dont like it.

Yes as you’re a healthy weight it was always going to be a jealousy issue.

im always shocked how messed up people are about weight, mainly women. The wli threads are a revelation in terms of how much people hate their own bodies and resent others getting slim.

minerva7 · 26/09/2026 21:34

No i think it is a perfect weight. Healthy BMI so not an issue.
I am that height and was 8 stone my whole life, even after 4 kids. Until the menopause. Now I’d be happy just to see single figures.

So “everyone else” supposedly found it completely obvious she has a jealous sister with weight issues and the doctor told her to lose weight and it’s resolved heath issues. Sure. I’m glad “everyone else” has psychic powers.

I mean I was obviously aware it’s a possibility her family may be wrong ( for any number of reasons) which I always acknowledged. But no I didn’t know what the OP didn’t state. Lol

To111ornotto111 · 26/09/2026 21:49

That's about my ideal weight at the same height, I'm a very pear shape though, no boobs, all bum! Currently 6mo pregnant and about 9 st, my thighs no longer fit in my size 8 maternity jeans 🤣

It was completely obvious she was not too thin, as she’s a healthy bmi, as such logically something else was driving the women,

TheChosenTwo · 26/09/2026 22:14

You sound fine op but it’s impossible to tell because we can’t see you obviously 😂
I’m 5’7 and 9st, I’m slim (with a wobbly stomach area!) but not what I would describe as scrawny. I’m quite toned as I do a wide variety of exercise and have got brilliant muscle definition in my legs and arms. I look lean but do make sure I eat well as my face can look a bit haggard if I’m not eating enough. Good excuse to indulge from time to time tbh!

Bunnyjo · 26/09/2026 22:24

I am 5’ 3”, 7st 12lb and size 6-8 - my BMI is 19.5 which is in the healthy range. A year ago I was far heavier, definitely unhealthier and very unhappy. Today, I feel great - I dress in whatever clothes I want and not what covers me like a bin liner, I am toned and fit from regular gym sessions and I just feel so much healthier in general.

Most people are very complimentary, but I get the odd snide comment (from other women, sadly) about being too small or looking like a teenager. To be honest, I don’t let those comments bother me - whether it’s jealousy or genuine concern, I don’t know, but if it is concern then it is misplaced. FWIW, I think as a society we have actually lost sight of what a healthy BMI looks like.

Fatmumslim01 · 26/09/2026 22:29

I'm 5 foot and weigh 9 stone 2 and recently lots of people are saying I'm getting too thin. However I was 14 stone 7 and have lost almost 5 and a half stone on mounjaro so it's a bit of a difference! I'm still actively trying to lose weight and would like to be 8 stone ,7

That’s mad. Is that just about in the healthy weight range or a little overweight? I do think it comes from people being so used to seeing overweight people.

Well done on the weight loss, you’ve done really well so keep going! I think some people do like to try to sabotage others losing weight.

OtterlyAstounding · 26/09/2026 23:41

Completely unremarkable and not too thin. You could be a little slimmer and still be healthy, but that BMI is a great place to sit. I think your family members have a skewed idea of what's healthy. Maybe it's just because it's a sudden change in you, and they're not used to it yet?

That’s crazy, people’s perception of ‘too thin’ often just means ‘thinner than them’. It’s jealousy dressed up as concern.

As said, people are really messed up about weight and it’s mainly women. There will be people reading this thread and jealous of the op and annoyed she’s a healthy weight, just at the thought of it.

on weight loss injections there are repeated threads from people pretending they are concerned but you can see it’s jealousy or resentment consuming them,

not all people are good people, they can’t say I’m jealous as I’m uncomfortable with my body, they attack instead and try to make the slimmer person feel bad,
