Is 8st too little for someone around 5ft 2?

Settle a debate. Do you think 8st is too little when you are 5ft 2ish? Size 8 clothing are perfect or a little loose. Age 41. Two kids. I know there’s no rules,it’s not me saying that there is but I need to hear opinions on this.

No! I’m 5ft 3 and 8.5, and have a perfectly healthy bmi and I’m in my mid 50s.

CeffylCoch · 26/09/2026 14:01

No it’s a healthy BMI

UnbeatenMum · 26/09/2026 14:01

My 17yo is this size, I don't think she's underweight although you can check the NHS BMI calculator for adults. She's a size 6.

Hedgehoggin · 26/09/2026 14:01

I’m 12st and the same height so I wouldn’t be worrying if I were you!

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 26/09/2026 14:03

It's fine.

maggisimpson · 26/09/2026 14:03

No, 8-9st is fine at that height.

Lomonald · 26/09/2026 14:04

Im in my 50s just 5ft and 9 stone 2ish. I was 8 stones in my early 40s and felt my weight was ok, I ate well and didn't deprive myself anything,

AuutumLeaves1983 · 26/09/2026 14:06

No. I am 5ft2 and my general ‘ok’ weight is 8st. I’ve gained a few pounds recently and it is definitely too heavy for my frame (I’m aware it would be fine for others with a different frame). I’m currently on a mission to get back to 8st, but still need to eat enough to fuel exercise/body recomposition.

I’d say my ‘happy weight’ is anywhere between 7st10 & 8st. I dropped under 7st7 a few years ago (illness) and I think that was a bit too low for me.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 26/09/2026 14:07

I'm 5'1 and 8 Stone.

I'm happy with my weight.

Echobelly · 26/09/2026 14:17

Sounds fine - I was that weight at the same height in my late teens/early 20s at that height. I was skinny, but not frail

Venusunbroken · 26/09/2026 14:21

No it’s a 20,5 bmi and totally healthy . My bmi is 20, I’m 5 ft 6 and a bit and weigh 9 stone, so bmi of 20 and look fit and healthy, I’m slim but certainly not skinny and have high muscle definition,

it could be an issue if you’ve very low muscle mass , so less about weight as body composition

Comeonbabylightmyaga · 26/09/2026 14:23

Too little for what?
To be healthy?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/09/2026 14:26

Im 5'1". I wouldnt like to be 8st again, I really cant imagine it. 9.5st would be great (or indeed anything less than my current weight...).

But 8st is fine and doubly trebly quadruply fine if you're happy with it

EatMoreChocolate44 · 26/09/2026 14:30

I'm 5ft 2 and I was 8 and a half stone when I got married which was a perfect weight for me. After 2 kids and now in my mid 40s I'm closer to 10stone,. I think I still look ok but I wouldn't say no if a few pounds magically dropped off and I can still eat biscuits and chocolate. 😂 I would consider 8 stone slim but not a concern.

Lovernotafighter83 · 26/09/2026 14:32

I’m 5.5 and have always been 8 stone. Three kids - 43 yo

florenceandthemac · 26/09/2026 14:40

I’m just shy of 5’ 3 and just under 10st.
I try not to fixate on the number on the scales as I weight train so I go off how I feel and how clothes fit, but I use the scales to keep me in check as I do like eating far too much cake and chocolate…
I am slim, I often get told I am, but I’m not super lean, and am always trying to lose a few lbs (of fat) so I can look leaner.
But I can’t imagine being 8st, I assume I would look very thin.
i guess it must be different for everyone, different body compositions etc.
Do you have much muscle?

pinkpedi · 26/09/2026 14:41

Absolutely not. I am the same height and huge at 8 stone. I'm usually between 7 and 7.5, I eat what I want, when I want, generally prettty healthy but for example I had a whole bag of 5 jam doughnuts yesterday! 😂
I wasn't even 8 stone at 9 months pregnant but that was over 20 years ago when I was even lighter usually.

Fraudornot · 26/09/2026 14:42

Im 5 ft 3 and vary between 7st10 to 8 and look slim but fine. In my 50s.

Yetanotherone12 · 26/09/2026 14:44

This is mumsnet.

you’ll get the head tilters along in a minute with it may be fine for you, o/p, but I’d feel wobbly/chubby/huge at 8st…

fumingrightnow1 · 26/09/2026 14:44

I think it depends on age I was that weight in my teens and 20s now im 40 I like a bit off weight on me

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 26/09/2026 14:45

I am 5 foot 4 and size 8, 48, my happy weight is 8st 5lb and at 8st 3lb I start to feel a bit too skinny. So I would say at 5 foot 2" it could be either way.

my question to you is are you happy with how you look
And feel? If I drop even 3lb I feel rubbish and no energy.

WhatNextImScared · 26/09/2026 14:46

No, it’s actually perfect.

I am 5ft 1in and I currently weigh 8st 11lb. I feel heavy and flabby but am still within an acceptable BMI. I would like to get down a bit.

I am at my healthiest and fittest between 7st 11lb and 8st 3lb. Now I’m mid forties it’s hard for me to get back there.

The healthy BMI weight rage for 5ft 1in is 7st 7lb to 9st 3lb. I guess for an inch taller that will be slightly shifted up but 8st will certainly be within it.

Petrine · 26/09/2026 14:51

I'm 5'2" and 8 stone. I feel fine at this weight and wouldn't want to be any heavier.

I think it really does depend on build as I’ve never really looked thin, even back was I was 8 stone (in my 20s, and later when breastfeeding). I’ve got broad shoulders for a short person and have always had quite broad upper arms (sometimes with more muscle definition than I have now!)

ToadRage · 26/09/2026 14:52

No, it's at the lower end of a healthy weight range for your height. I am also 5'2 and when i was doing Slimming World we had to set a target that was in the healthy range for our heights. I was heading for 9st with a lower of 8.5 if I carried on losing.
