Can I mention a missing purse and jewellery after workmen visited?

Well known plumbing company came in to fix central heating in our house and a few months later, I have discovered a designer purse missing, a couple of credit cards and a box of jewellery.
My husband says you can't blame it on them for sure as a BT engineer also came in a month later but he was only in the front bedroom. This stuff is definitely missing. What should I do now? Can I denounce them on social media and not get into trouble?

And you are all batshit thinking you can't be robbed. BYE.

Lock the front door as you flounce out, in case you realise in years to come that your TV’s been nicked.

Have you asked the company if they remember seeing these items or have you flounced

Balloonhearts · 20/09/2026 18:22

Literally no one said that. But you cannot accuse someone publicly of a crime with no proof. Not unless you want to to be sued.

I get your angry but you’ve multiple suspects and zero proof

InNewYorkNoShoes · 20/09/2026 18:34

Tbf to @YourAmplePlumPoster none of know the builders didn’t take her stuff either.

Mirrorlolo · 20/09/2026 18:45

Something similar happened to me - a necklace went missing after 2 workmen had been in- but I didn't notice for a week and wasn't certain where exactly i'd left it. I accepted there was nothing I could do as I had no proof it was them

There was a similar thread recently about a missing ring. The Op was 100% convinced it was stolen. It turned out the cleaner had moved it.

You beat me to it that one immediately sprung to mind the "diamond ring"
The op was convinced it had been half inched and found it

YourAmplePlumPoster · 20/09/2026 18:52

Well I definitely know I have been robbed.

No, you definitely know that you can't find your stuff.

If you've been burgled, you don't know who by.

How come it's taken so long to notice?

And out of interest, was everything in the same place, conveniently in full view, or did the burglars have to rummage around to find the stuff?

TheBabyFatmoss · 20/09/2026 19:02

Why would someone steal two credit cards and not use them?

plumming · 20/09/2026 18:07

Yes because that’s literally what everyone said, except it isn’t!!! Op you’re being very strange

Edited

@YourAmplePlumPoster can I have some
of what you’re on?

Greebocat · 20/09/2026 19:07

It can happen, we got a kitchen fitted and our spare key to the car got taken, the car was stolen off the drive about a week later. I was heavily pregnant at the time and had lots of baby stuff in the car. The police said it was obviously them but with no proof there was nothing we could do .

LIZS · 20/09/2026 19:08

If the cards have not been used they are more likely lost rather than stolen. Ywbu to put anything identifiable and accusatory on sm as you have no idea if or when these items disappeared,

PrettyLittleRose · 20/09/2026 19:09

YourAmplePlumPoster · 20/09/2026 18:03

This is going the way I thought it would. But since robbery is generally approved of these days in the UK, no surprise. They needed it. It was your fault for tempting them...

No-one has robbed you though dude.

The point is that she is determined that these workmen have stolen her jewellery and credit cards with ZERO proof, and she wants to slag them off on the internet and ruin their reputation and potentially their business. Utterly despicable thing to to (if she does do it,) and IF she does do it, I hope they sue her for everything she has got. (Once it emerges that she is wrong, and the workmen took nothing!)

YourAmplePlumPoster · 20/09/2026 18:52

Well I definitely know I have been robbed.

Were you insured, did you cancel the cards and bank fraud department.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 20/09/2026 18:52

Well I definitely know I have been robbed.

Robbery is theft with violence or the threat of violence. Even if the workmen did take your stuff, it was not robbery.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 20/09/2026 19:25

You’ve had stuff stolen by multiple cleaners and yet didn’t bother to lock away your jewellery? Or even check it was safe? I call bullshit on that one.

As for “everything thinks it’s okay to steal in the UK” - what utter nonsense. I don’t know anyone who is a thief and I don’t know anyone who has been stolen from in the last 10 years. Don’t believe everything you see on social media.

LondonLass2026 · 20/09/2026 19:32

Why does everyone feel the need to scream about everything on social media? It's not clever, it's just boring. Where's your proof? I'd tread very carefully before you publicly accuse them.

Whered · 20/09/2026 20:53

Is this part of some sort of insurance scam?

You posting an incoherent rant on social media with zero proof is unlikely to lead to a respectable company being blacklisted.

Perhaps you were "robbed" or perhaps you misplaced some items or your husband gave them away or perhaps they never existed at all.

BashfulClam · 20/09/2026 21:15

My husband had £5 stolen by some Sky fitters they had to get the special heights team out and sent two neds who wouldn’t have much issue falling on their heads. He had a fiver sitting in a box where he always dumps all the cash from his pockets and his keys etc. After they left it had gone, he had no proof though but he is 99% sure they took it. My mum had some cheap gold jewellery go missing during a house survey. It was Lizzie Duke but we both saw the necklace and earrings in her dressing table that day. It was weird because it was worth £3 at best and why would a RICS certified surveyor take it. It never turned up.

ThatPlumTurtle · 20/09/2026 21:17

Have you spoken to your GP about a memory clinic referral?

firsttimepregnanthelp · 20/09/2026 21:19

Guys I think this is a troll post
