What small things do you look forward to each day?

Going through a tough patch at the minute and realised I am just going through life never looking forward to or enjoying anything.

What do you look forward to? What helps to get you through the day. Hoping to find things I can add to my day or week.

Waking up at 11am in a smashed-up hotel room, clutching a bottle of vodka and sniffing the last of last nights coke off the bell boy’s…

yeah just coffee and gardening really.

First mug of tea
Nice handcream
Nice perfume
Cat cuddles
My garden
MNet
The guilty pleasure of watching an episode of Come Dine With Me whilst drinking my morning tea.

A spray of perfume

Playing word games everyday (Wordle, crossword etc).
A few chapters of a book in the evening.
Settling down with a series of my choice when the dc are in bed.
Getting cosy either with a cuppa or a wine and my blankets and the candles on.

When I get in (even if it’s only been a quick half hour out) and our cat comes trotting to greet me at the door. It’s best if he’s been home alone for a while because then he’s super excited to see me! He’s a rescue who was found as a stray kitten, and it also gives me such joy to know he now has a really lovely life with us.

That feeling at the end of a reformer class when you do stretches and then end with a little clap (applause) for a job well done, and the instructor says along the lines of “that was beautiful ladies, you smashed it”. I’m a lecturer myself and it reminds me to always praise my students!

DDog greeting me when I come down, new flowers on the garden, DS gradually developing habits that I never grasped and trying to do better for him. Seeing kingfishers.

Changing the wax in my candle burners.
Listening to Radio 2. I find the familiarity of the DJs comforting.
Watching Top of the pops 2 on Friday nights.
Going out for coffee.

Cats on my pillow
cup of tea in bed
reading
driving home from work
talking to family and friends

pandorpond · 15/09/2026 05:29

When all the kids are asleep in bed and me and DH have an uninterrupted conversation followed usually by a shag. Bliss

Midseptemberwoes · 15/09/2026 15:43

Thanks for all the lovely ideas, I will definitely be trying to build some of these into my day.

Tea in bed

Listening to my audio book when I go to bed at night, particularly if I have just had a lovely warm bath with lavender scented Epsom salts in it.

Waking up in the morning and realising I don't HAVE to get up.

Gothwife · 15/09/2026 17:48

A cup of coffee after dinner. We tidy the kitchen and then curl up on the sofa with the telly, a coffe and an after 8 mint. Honestly one of my favourite parts of the day.

Empress13 · 16/09/2026 05:58

A lovely scented bubble bath after a hard day at work. Light my spa candles, nice cuppa (or glass of wine 😜) and watch YouTube vids on my iPad with no interruptions- bliss!

UtterlyStMary · 16/09/2026 06:32

The little click when the central heating goes on. My heated blanket.

LukaModricsMidriff · 16/09/2026 06:38

Going to sleep being cuddled by DP. So comforting.

Morning “group hug” with DP and DD. My little family having a moment all together before we rush off for our days

Hearing about DD’s day on the walk home from the childminders.

Having a gig to look forward to

Planning a visit to a restaurant. Choosing it, looking at reviews, looking at the menu etc

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 16/09/2026 06:48

My bed!

OhForTheWeekend · 16/09/2026 08:42

Coffee, but not every single one, there is a time when you get that one coffee that is just right and it reminds you why you drink coffee.
Fresh sheets, especially after a bath and clean pjs.
The scent of freshly cut grass... the first one at the beginning of the summer.
The feeling of regret when you realise that there is only 20 pages left of a book you have raced through, and you know it was good.
Starting a new knitting, crochet or quilting project.
The nip in the air as Summer moves quietly into Autumn and suddenly knowing that actually you are a Spring and Autumn person.
And, this evening, I asked Alexa to play something by Neil Sedaka... the last few hours have been filled with hits of the 70s, they have all triggered really happy memories and I know that my life has, on balance, not been that bad... but I am still open to that win on the premium bonds...

Just jumped on here to say this is the best post ever - hard relate, esp the coffee and being a spring/autumn person.
