What small things do you look forward to each day?

Going through a tough patch at the minute and realised I am just going through life never looking forward to or enjoying anything.

What do you look forward to? What helps to get you through the day. Hoping to find things I can add to my day or week.

OP posts:

Such a heartwarming,uplifting thread- love it ❤️

Im grateful to have time to enjoy my toast and coffee, cuddles with my Labrador and read before the day gets busy.

I look forward to using skin products that smell delicious, to getting in my car and listening to music as I drive through country lanes, and to putting on PJs after a refreshing shower.

It really is the little things that brighten my day. I'm enjoying reading all your posts

Oh yes, I love watching my garden robin having a bath in an old plate the bird bath
(Note to self: get proper bird bath...)

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/09/2026 17:11

Birdsong.

We have a local robin and a blackbird, I tend to hear the robin early mornings and the blackbird in the evenings. Both bring me a quiet contentment.

Coming home, bra off comfy socks on.
Buying a small bunch of flowers for the kitchen window sill.
A glass of wine with my evening meal.
Having a phone catch up with a friend I haven't seen for a while.

morgan56 · 14/09/2026 17:14

Having a browse around the local charity shops when I’m on my lunch break and working from the office
Lighting my candles as it gets cosier
Watching whatever series/film with some salted popcorn

petitpasta · 14/09/2026 17:17

A coffee outside. Even if it's cold I have a coffee outside as long as it's dry.

Getting back from an early morning weights session especially if I have manage to increase any weights on an exercise.

A candle in the evening and a good book

Whattodo121 · 14/09/2026 17:22

Making myself a pint of squash with ice and having some sort of crunchy snack when I get home whilst doom scrolling for half an hour 🤣 preferably in total isolation/total silence.

A new episode of Below Deck or Real Housewives

Korean face masks, I treat myself to a couple whenever I go into London and love doing them on a Sunday evening.

Snuggling the dog. She brings absolute joy to my heart and watching telly with her curled up on my feet is a highlight ❤️

Baking homemade shortbread to have with a cup of tea.

IndigoBluey · 14/09/2026 13:30

My exercise class after work. A walk in the woods. Reading my book whilst waiting for dinner to cook.
@MintedOnVinted where do you buy the American creamer from? I love those!

TikTok shop or Whatnot

There are plenty of good suggestions here OP.

Oh thank you for this thread @Midseptemberwoes and everyone who contributed. I’ve been struggling a bit to figure out what I can do to add a bit more joy. I do lots of good things for myself - drink water, Pilates, walks, meditation exercises but they’re just a bit too worthy and my vices have come to bite me in the ass in peri menopause.

This thread is full of inspiration

Getting into bed, I like to think I will read or watch TV but I'll be asleep in 3 minutes flat.
Getting comfy on the catch on a rare night alone and watching girly trash TV.
A clean, nice smelling house, it doesn't happen often!

RamALamADingDong2 · 14/09/2026 17:47

Every other month/season (basically, every so often when I find the time!) I settle down on the sofa and have a really good trawl of all the things that are going on in my area in the next couple of months. I find all the fun events (workshops, shows, gigs, days out offers, etc), book up the stuff we're interested in right there and then, and pop them straight into our calendar. Sometimes it will even just be a little day trip to a place we've been saying we want to visit for a while.

I have found this to be a FAB way of giving us lovely things to look forward to! It means that there's always stuff coming up (I have bits booked up to around Christmas time now, one or two into next year already), I usually catch stuff before it sells out or becomes too expensive, and I really enjoy making suggestions to people who I know have particular interests, and I know they'd love something I've found. Feels really nice to have a calendar that we've chosen and makes me happy every time I look at it. 😊

Only thing I will say is that it's easy to get a bit too carried away, over-book and end up knackered with no down time. I'm someone who also needs her rest days. I've learned to edit now!

Coffee, but not every single one, there is a time when you get that one coffee that is just right and it reminds you why you drink coffee.
Fresh sheets, especially after a bath and clean pjs.
The scent of freshly cut grass... the first one at the beginning of the summer.
The feeling of regret when you realise that there is only 20 pages left of a book you have raced through, and you know it was good.
Starting a new knitting, crochet or quilting project.
The nip in the air as Summer moves quietly into Autumn and suddenly knowing that actually you are a Spring and Autumn person.
And, this evening, I asked Alexa to play something by Neil Sedaka... the last few hours have been filled with hits of the 70s, they have all triggered really happy memories and I know that my life has, on balance, not been that bad... but I am still open to that win on the premium bonds...

The silence when the kids have left for school and it's an office day for DH. It's bliss with a hot cuppa and a cat cuddle.

Jk987 · 14/09/2026 22:01

Picking my 5 year old up from school ❤️

cupfinalchaos · 14/09/2026 22:07

Arran2024 · 14/09/2026 22:09

Doing my New York Times puzzles - it actually helps me get out of bed! The best known one is Wordle, but my favourite is Letterbox.

ElizaToolittle · 14/09/2026 22:11

Walk in the park all bundled up
Search morning autumn jazz or something similar on YouTube on your tv and just chill with a book and a cup of tea
A tidy house
Getting all my things to do written on a piece of paper so they’re out of my head
A coffee or sweet treat from a cafe
Reading a new book on the sofa
